âMichael. You silly silly man,â Cecilia taunted back with a grin on her face, practically glowing. âOf course he says that. Would I marry a man who wouldnât offer me anything I wanted?â Of course the difference was that with James, it was entirely possible for him to actually make any lavish dream come true. The key was that she had never asked for anything but him. And maybe some really nice shoes. She would offer him the same. Jackie just grinned along side her friend, because she had no doubt that she could get her future husband to move mountains if she asked. It was funny to see her closest friend settled down so quickly, but watching their relationship gave her the tiniest bit of hope for all relationships.Â
âOooh, weâre going to go to Vegas someday,â Jackie chimed in quietly, whispering to the half asleep baby in her arms. âYour interests now are about the same as theyâll be in Vegas. Boobies and bottles.â
âJackie!â Cecilia laughed, even blushing. âNone of my children are allowed in the state of Nevada. Or wherever Atlantic City is.â
Jackie rubbed Charlieâs back as she walked towards to the nursery and told him, âWe can find those things in other cities, donât worry.â She smiled up to Michael as she passed him to disappear into the nursery. First, she turned on his mobile, the little turtle toy illuminating the dark roomâs ceiling with stars. Then, she waited for his Uncle for story time.
Cecilia watched Jackie disappear and teasingly pointed at Michael while she reminded him, âBe good.â Thatâs when she got to her feet to take their plates and bring them to the kitchen, leaving her first born with the two people she trusted most besides herself and her husband.Â
âMy bad, I should have thought about that, of course,â Michael responded with a brief laugh - they both knew Cecilia wasnât after Jamesâ money, it had become clear soon enough; if heâd thought otherwise, Michael would have never given her a chance. But heâd surrounded himself with gold-diggers his entire life, he knew how to spot one and Cecilia wasnât it. All the same, he was pretty sure James would have given her the moon, if he could just talk NASA into bringing it earthward. He figured a hockey team of children was the next best thing.Â
âSorry, Cecilia, but Iâm afraid Iâm gonna side with Jackie on this one. Vegas will be happening at some point,â he agreed, mostly for the fun of it, since he knew what a nightmare that would have been for her. âThough it might be more boobies and bigger bottles,â he added, winking playfully at the baby.Â
Michael held back for a moment as Jackie walked to the nursery, just enough to address Cecilia a grin which both hopefully assured her he was messing around and yet, who knew in twenty years? He added a small shrug just to be sure, then followed Jackie.Â
âSo, what story shall Uncle Michael tell you, uh?â he wondered in a whisper, walking up to stand next to Jackie. âWhy donât we let auntie Jackie decide?âÂ
