Elizabeth Swann was the protagonist of the Pirates films Will was her love interest and Jack was a supporting character and I think it’s time everyone starts admitting it
So what if you don’t feel pretty? You’re not here to look pretty. You’re here to love, to experience things, to create, to learn, to teach, to care, to help, to laugh, to LIVE. Being pretty doesn’t have to be on your list of priorities! What your body looks like will always be secondary to all the things it allows you to do and experience.
Sometimes I worry maybe I’m the friend that no one likes but they all think everyone else likes me, so they all hide it, but then someone confesses they hate me, and everyone else agrees, and they team up to all stab me in the back 23 times at the Senate on the Ides of March
genuine self confidence literally only comes with not caring at all if you’re ugly... like if it’s based around finding yourself beautiful it’s planted on fragile ground
like it feels Good to look in the mirror and say Wow i feel pretty, it’s a nice moment and i’m not condemning it, but it’s a tenuous position. if you position yourself to feel good about being pretty, you’re still vulnerable to Ugly, and pretty is not a sustainable state. no matter how far you extend the concept of beauty, it’s still based in rules established by societal standards that realistically one cannot be perfectly held up to.
For some people, life doesn’t truly begin until they’re 26-30. The way we romanticize and obsess over youth is super harmful. Your life is not over at 21, I promise you. It’s just beginning
I watched this video about how our perception of love is ruining relationships. It was so interesting because it explained how in the last 150 years we have moved from communities to living in very hyper individual states. So now we expect one person (our partner) to fill the needs that usually a whole community would fill. Like we expect them to be our best friend, adviser, confidant etc etc. And that’s just super unrealistic to expect from one person. I rlly liked it because something about the “letting go of what doesn’t serve me” mentality 5 years into relationships doesn’t sit right with me. Obviously leave abusive and toxic relationships !! But, expecting one person to meet every single one of your needs is frankly just not going to happen and that’s why you’re not meeting “the one”. That’s why we need to spend more time investing in our communities, hobbies and friendships instead of relying on one source or comfort. Also books / films / TV really portray love as this all encompassing and passionate process, with huge grand gestures. Which, of course it is, but mostly it is simple and perhaps even mundane at times.
