Last night I went to Island-renowned donut shop Back Door Donuts. I had never been in the kitchen before, but snapped away as one our writers worked on her “How Hard Can It Be?” column... how fun! AND THE APPLE FRITTERS! to die for.

Squidding! I have never gone squidding before, but went for work. The baby squid only appear on the Island for a few weeks a year, and only at and around sunset.
One kind fisherman let me try to snag one, and I did on my first try!!! I’m a squid whisperer
One of the more popular bus drivers on the Island, Tom, is retiring at the end of the school year. He’s earned these portraits!!!
Bees! I photographed two Island beekepers to get an up close and personal look at their hives. Island honey is incredible, and these two talents help produce it!
Both beekeepers were nervous on my behalf, and impressed when I got real close! Bees, schmees.
Harborfest, an annual crafts fair along Oak Bluffs Harbor, was another great success. Although, to be honest, the photos are the same every year.
The Little League Championship! Last year, this was one of the first events I photographed after being hired by the MV Times. This year I was looking for another chance!! Shooting baseball like this, though, makes me sad to be away from my brothers!
Look how cute this little house is! Martha’s Vineyard has a serious housing problem, especially affordable housing, so residents are taking extreme measures in the summer.
A dog parade! The Island has a surprising number of these, actually. And they are always a riot to shoot!
We have several major supplemental issues we run, and one of them is called Arts & Ideas. In it, we feature various Island artists. I visited Jennifer McCurdy’s basement studio where she creates beautiful pottery!
One of MV’s forgotten theaters, the Capawock in Vineyard Haven, was recently refurbished with the help of Carly Simon. On opening night, she played a short set with her family-- then screened Pitch Perfect 2!
My second day shooting was a fun one! Some bigger names mixed in with some smaller ones, the tournament is starting to heat up!
Indian Wells, Day 3: My first day on the job! It took me awhile to get back in the groove of tennis... After all, its been a year since I was shooting professional tennis. But it felt great to be back and see so many familiar pro’s and IW staff!
Played around with some different angles, but really I was just experimenting for later in the tournament. What shots work and what shots dont!

Today I travelled to Cuttyhunk Island, population: 18.
The school has two students, a brother and sister, and they share a one-room classroom. When one has music lessons, the other puts on sound-proof headphones so they can do other schoolwork. Their heights are on the wall and photos of all their mainland field trips are plastered everywhere. It was really something else...
As for the rest of the Island, it was extremely empty and EXTREMELY bright. Everything was white, and nearly every home was shuttered for the winter. There was no market, no bank and no hospital. There was, however, a post office (and you had to make an appointment!)
The US Coast Guard, stationed out of Menemsha, took us with them to the Island. That was pretty awesome, too. They made me wear the standard exo suit, which was extremely warm and apparently inflatable.
This morning I accompanied some brave souls as they went surfing. In the winter!!! It was great to watch them dive into the icy waters as the sun began to rise!
This morning, after a days worth of snow and rain, I stopped by my favorite Island spot and was not disappointed!
I took on a challenge when I assigned myself both the story and the photos of an awesome pickleball weekend at Vineyard Tennis Center. What is pickleball, you say? It is a combination of tennis, ping pong and badminton.
What fun!
