the look she fixed him with was meant to convey some kind of disapproval of him, his words, his tone, or a combination of the three, but even with all of the acting coaching in the world, she couldn’t keep the genuinely impressed look from shining through. she fought for a moment to decide on something to respond with but when nothing came immediately to mind, she simply turned on her heel to head back over to the table she’d poured her own coffee at.
returning with her own topped off and a fresh cup for him, she held it out. “i’m brooke, by the way. since you didn’t ask. savour that, it’s the _only _coffee i’ll ever be delivering for you.”
“i see no reason for you to be making that face,” max called as she walked off. he watched intently from his seat, crossing a leg over the other with a relaxed sigh. he followed her with his eyes as she made the walk back to the table and carefully takes the cup from her as she speaks. “i would’ve asked if i had wanted to know, but i don’t, so i didn’t.” a quick glance up over the rim of the cup as he sipped gave him cause to grin at brooke. “i’m kidding, i know who you are – your sister as well.. I’m max. and thank you for the coffee.”
