Rewind the tape —Episode 3 highlights
One of our favorite bits of backstage trivia is...
...the story behind Louis' mystery balcony jump! We had been wondering about that promotional still that never made it to screen, and a recent Q&A with Jacob and Sam finally gave us the answer to our questions: Louis' "Batman" moment happened at the end of the third episode, and ended up being cut because it was just too cool to fit in with all that doom and gloom. Hopefully we'll get to see some stunts from Louis next season, but this deleted jump was repurposed for Claudia instead, and looked amazing with her flowing cape.
What's a favorite fun fact of yours? Any more cool stories from backstage? A favorite quote from the cast or crew, or from a review? A reference that blew your mind?

Click for full picture. Bricks, Maman du Lac, and the Freniere twins all look great. Bricktop, with her lined eyebrows counting money and spitting legal facts to the men in the room. Maman in a lovely early 1900s navy frock with a conservative neckline and silhouette. She looked handsome while spewing evils to her first born child. Then the twins in their birthday crowns.
My blacks-only prince. If only, Louis. Actually, "colored" can now mean anyone non-white though the term is long outdated and offensive to some. Like he said, he was manic and starving.
Perhaps the only time we see Louis in all black outside of funerals. Fitting due to the death toll that night.
How long's it been?
A day and forever. Told Grace you wouldn't remember me.

INTERVIEW WITH THE VAMPIRE 1.04 "...The Ruthless Pursuit of Blood with All a Child's Demanding"
for @iwtvfanevents rewind the tape, let's talk about coffins for episode 4
the simplest explanation for why vampires sleep in coffins is simply that they're dead and the dead are buried in coffins. vampire lore does precede burial by coffin but i'm not getting into that whole history.

We’re kicking off discussion of Episode 4 with two questions:
Unlike Louis, Claudia never gets a pitch about becoming a vampire or even a choice. What does vampirism offer Claudia, if anything? How does Claudia joining Lestat and Louis’ family affect or change them, separately and also as a couple?

Rewind the tape —Episode 2 highlights
One of our favorite scenes is...
…actually, a pair of scenes. Our first highlight is the scene where Louis eats the fox —the performance of it all, making a show of petting the fox and biting it; and his speech afterwards:
“Vampires are killers, apex predators whose all-seeing eyes were meant to give them detachment, the ability to see a human life in its entirety, not with any mawkish sorrow, but with the thrilling satisfaction of being the end of that life and having a hand in the divine plan.”
What’s most interesting is how similar this is to what Lestat says later in the episode:
“You will see death in all its beauty, life as it is only known at the very point of death. You alone, of all creatures, can see death with that impunity. You alone, under the rising moon, can strike like the hand of God.”
The other half of our pair is the scene at the end of the episode, in which Louis prepares to eat a human meal (which should, by all accounts, be beneath an “apex predator”) as he tells Daniel:
“I was never going to be a natural. I was never going to savor the aftertaste. I was a shame-ridden second, a fumbling, despondent killer, a botched vampire.”
This second scene functions as a perfect reversal of the first, where Louis is full of bravado, trying to convince Daniel of how vicious vampires, including himself, are. But here, as he admits to being “botched,” Louis allows Daniel to see that, even now, he isn’t a natural at vampirism.
What's a favorite scene of yours? Did you enjoy the first hunt? Were you taken by the humor of Lestat’s mind-reading lessons? Do you love the discomfort of the tenor’s murder?

The Carousel Spins
"Oh you need to stop using that word right now, 'cause it's soundin' a little like 'slave'."
I chose this quote for episode two as my favorite because it sheds light on the fact that Louis has to still deal with racist and micro aggressive remarks from people around him, including his own lover, after being turned. All that talking Lestat did about leaving a life of shame and being superior to regular humans once they got back into the real world because at the end of the day, Louis is still a Black man in the Jim Crow south. He's being disrespected at every turn and the one person who said none of it mattered has shown a bit of his true colors as well.
This was a needed line because too many people think any form or lick of power will make you a God, when it's a lot more nuance to that.

for @iwtvfanevents 'rewind the tape'
for @iwtvfanevents rewind the tape, i present some bts from episode 2.
in this video alan taylor, who directed episode 2 talks to katie o'shaughnessy about coming up with the treadmill walk for for lestat and louis walking in this bit after louis' turning. he talked about this when he was asked about what his favourite scene was.
alan also says that the crew stole the treadmill idea and used it in another scene. the famous rue royale trio walk.
@iwtvfanevents 1.02 Discussion Question 1:
In the middle of trying to smooth things over with Louis, Lestat says, "For the record, if disrespect was done to you, I would have killed him myself." Do you think Lestat is being honest, or is there a caveat to his assertion?
i will never get over the bechet in the dubai dining room and the way louis is framed right behind it. the piece is from a larger series of charcoal drawings that use trees and vines as a way to discuss the interplay of social dynamics in society. at times the interplay is symbiotic but in other works in the series the twisting vines and branches are meant to parallel racial oppression and how it prevents growth and stability. i love that it's displayed so prominently at the end of this ep and how it adds to the commentary already being had about power, race, and how those 2 things interplay w each other in the american south
