How to Backup your Tumblr
I was just semi-complaining that I was still looking for a decent way to backup my +6k posts without having to use paid services or even just wordpress (which has an import from tumblr tool that asks for permission to access your blog and also make posts), when I decided to actually put some effort into my google search.
Results were positive: I have successfully backed up my blog*
*By which I mean: everything that I have ever posted. Not included: drafts, queue, likes, followers, following, comments, notes, chat.
I followed this method (word by word), and now have a 450 MB folder on my computer with the name of my blog on it containing:
1. Folder “Archive” (contains .html files listed by month) 2. Folder “Media” (contains gifs and images, mine has +1k files in it; might contain also audios but I have no way of confirming that because I’ve never reblogged an audio post from this blog) 3. Folder “Posts” (contains single .html files, each one a post; I have +4k files in it) 4. Folder “Theme” (contains only my avatar, but it might be a matter of if you have personalized themes or not) 5. .html file “Index” (by opening it it will give you the archive of your blog organized by month; clicking on a month will open up the archive for that month, and you’ll be able to read all the posts for that month as if you were on your blog**, except sans your theme graphic, with each page containing 50 posts)
**I can see gifs, links, embedded videos, tags, number of notes (but I can’t open up the notes, clearly), text is also correctly formatted.
So yeah, in case anyone wants a very quick way to back up their blog, it took me less than 10 minutes.
P.S. I didn’t have any issue, but to be on the safe side always check for spyware and virus threats before and after downloading anything.
this is actually really useful if you have an art blog full of years of work that you otherwise no longer have access to the original files. A lot of the art I have in the early days of my art blog are in that boat. I did this process JUST for that reason and I was pretty astonished at just how many pieces of media it backs up! (literally all of it) Drawings I didn’t even realize were sitting in my archive due to having been posted to text posts or undercuts, or untagged for years! It’s worth it if just for that, even if tumblr isn’t shutting down or deleting your blog.
reference.
This is just for windows users, but just in case some of my followers can use it!
For mac the process becomes:
Install Anaconda 2.7
Download and extract the files
Copy and paste the full filename and location tumblr_backup.py followed by your blog name in to the terminal i.e. /Users/myusername/Downloads/bbolli-tumblr-utils-f234953/tumblr_backup.py myblog
Wait forever
Accurate post is accurate.
Reminds me of the time a lady told me whip doesn’t melt. Or a guy yelled at me for not understanding him/hearing him because he kept talking on the phone
For those in retail.
I worked in a Lil Caesars and a woman came in and wanted a sausage pizza with no sausage, but got mad when she was given a cheese pizza.
So when I worked at fitting room in Old Navy, a woman told me that a medium top was too small, and that the large top was too large. So she asked me to find her an “x-medium”. Old Navy carries x-small, small, medium, large, x-large, 1x, 2x and 3x. There is no “x-medium”. But she insisted, so I went and found her an “x-medium” (which was just a medium in a different color but the same top, same make, same EVERYTHING) and she goes very happily, “THIS! THIS FITS ME PERFECTLY! THANK YOU SO MUCH! See, you can do anything you can set your mind to!”
I’m a waitress at a big fancy resort, and once a woman asked me for a diet water and when I told her there was no such thing she demanded to see my manager (who then also promptly told her there was no such thing and brought her regular water). Another occasion of stupidity occurred when a woman had been brought a steak cooked too much for her liking. I offered to take it back and bring her out a new one, cooked a little less, and she said “NO this one’s fine I just want you to cook THIS one a little less.” I then had to get the chef and have him explain why you can’t UNCOOK a steak.
When I was working at dunkin donuts there was this woman in the drive-thru who asked for a lightly toasted croissant and then started complaining that the croissant was warm. And wanted her money back, so she gave me the croissant back and I gave her the money and then she tells me “now i want my new croissant” she wanted a new one for free and as she was screaming at me this guy in a biker gang covered in tattoos leans over the counter in the store and yells “ma’am let me just tell you what we’re all thinking. fuck off, you stupid cunt.” I couldn’t stop laughing and she drove away in anger.
Most of the people like in the stories above know that they’re being totally irrational, but also know that if they complain enough they’ll most likely get something free or discounted. So really most of the the nonsensical fucks are actually just cheap fucks with no shame or respect for people.
That last bit of commentary though.
You’d think that but I had once had to explain to a woman that I couldn’t “cut her hair longer.” Some people are actually just stupid.
That’s buyer’s remorse that’s making her act irrationally though.
Having had a haircut where both I and the hairdresser knew she was going to have to cut it a lot shorter than I wanted (to fix the mess the previous hairdresser had made) I can completely get both a hairdressers reluctance to make a major cut and the clients irrational I want this undone.
I just want JKRowling to reveal us how James and Lily, Frank and Alice defeated thrice Voldemort! Since she introduced us that fact in the fifth book, I dream of it but she won’t tell us anything!
They didn’t defeat Voldemort three times. The prophecy is “[b]orn to those who have thrice defied him [....]”.
Defeat - 1 to beat or win a victory over someone, eg in a war, competition, game or argument. 2 to make (plans, etc) fail. •
Defy - 1 to resist or disobey someone boldly and openly. 2 to dare or challenge someone. 3 formal to make something impossible or unsuccessful •
They didn’t beat him, they publicly spoke against Voldemort, joined a resistance group and attempted to prevent him from killing people, therefore defying him three times.

The Slinky Evening Gown, Simplicity 7867
This evening gown is a vintage model, early 1930s I would guess because of the cut of the skirt and the simplicity of the front bodice. The back bodice is mostly barge with straps that wrap one another. Simplicity has done it up in modern sizes just in time for cool weather and holiday parties. This dress needs the kind of fabric that will drape close to the body, such as silk satin, silk crepe, or silk charmeuse. I know they make poly versions of all those fabrics, but they rarely drape as well. Silk threads are slippery and so they are best when some of the pattern pieces or the seams are placed on the bias as you see here with the skirt pieces especially.
It comes with a little jacket to be made of a sheer fabric. It has melon type sleeves that widen to a seam and then narrow, then shirring at the bust line and a button which you should make the most of by choosing a jeweled version.
Little matching jackets in the same or a coordinating fabrics were once standard accompaniments for evening gowns and a good idea. The idea was to keep you covered while traveling to the party or while at the party. But as it is currently freezing outside, remember that this one will not keep you warm at all in a sheer silk. So if you make this for the winter, think of velvet or choose another pattern entirely to make a longer velvet jacket or coat. You might interline a jacket or coat with a wool flannel for extra warmth, or choose a faux fur. Then save this jacket pattern in a sheer for a spring party or a summer wedding.
You can find it at your local fabric store, or online here: https://mccallpattern.mccall.com/m7867
Pretty.
While the sheer jacket isn’t going to keep you warm it covers the areas my mum has scars without taking away from the dress.

I have an original clothkits size 8-10 boiler suit that has been in my mother’s stash for the last thirty years. She recently cut the sleeves up :( so it isn’t complete. Neither of us are ever going to make it because the fabric composition makes us itch. So I’m wondering what to do with it.

I’ve been working on the Evelyn Dress in size 20 out of the above fabric for a friend. I can’t show it worn because the person it’s for is in the Midlands and I am in London with no one else the same size. There are two pictures of it hanging one completed and the other waiting on buttons and hemming.
It’s an easy sew that comes together quickly and is very much my friend’s style. i have a couple of niggles that I think are an aspect of making the largest pattern size. There is only a 3cm overlap on the front pieces which looks very small on size twenty bodice. The collar would look better balanced if it was slightly longer. The only adaptations I made to the pattern were to add in-seam pockets and five belt loops that I also used to catch down the casing. While I would make the pattern again if I was making it the same size I think I would try the rounded collar and extend the front bodice overlap to 5cm.
As a set of instructions I found it frustrating. The first is personal preference I find diagrams significantly easier to follow than photos which is what the pattern provided which wasn’t a problem for this pattern but makes me wary of doing more complicated patterns from the same manufacturer. The second is a larger and more consistent problem, this is a beginners pattern which only discusses zigzaging the edges as a finishing method and exclusively shows overlocked edges and presents the process with the assumption that an overlocker will be used. This means the method of making a casing for the waistband elastic given in the pattern leaves a raw edge you have to finish with elastic fitted that could easily have been avoided. If I’d been thinking I would have instead stitched the first waistband seam at 1cm wrong sides facing and then the second at 1.5 cm with right sides facing and leaving a gap, catching the raw edges inside. This would have been far easier than bias binding the gathered raw edge after the fact which was necessary as I don’t have an overlocker.
My final frustration with this particular version of the dress is that I followed the hemming instructions given for the sleeves but finished the skirt with bias binding because I’d already brought some for the waistband. If I were to go back I would finish the sleeves with bias binding and if I make this pattern again, I would finish the sleeves, skirt and facing edges with bias binding.
Two self-drafted jackets/cardigans They’re really comfortable and not a particularly hard sew so I foresee making more. I’m not happy with the collar on the jellyfish and the hood on the petrol/teal needs redrafting.
Why is wolfstar more popular than prongsfoot? This must be because of the films, because in the books Lupin and Sirius aren’t that close, and Sirius clearly holds a deep affection, respect and interest for James, more than he feels for anyone else.
Timing, Wolfstar as a ship grew up after PoA and was well established before OotP or HBP came out. At that time slashers desperately wanted a ship between adults or at least not preteens to ship so any option with vaguely conventionally attractive white menwas going to do well and Wolfstar had an interesting history and dynamic. That James was so important to Sirius overpowering all others and that Sirius would be willing to risk Remus’s life for a childhood rivalry were both pieces of information that we got after the shipping landscape had developed. People were already attached to their ship and the fanon ship dynamic of Wolfstar appeals to a different type of shipper to the canon Wolfstar or Prongsfoot dynamics.
Well, I know that I when I see a discussion about whether or not something is sexist and misogynistic in a work of fiction, I sure want the man who initially thought the moment was sexist to be dismissive of the opinions of multiple women who tell him otherwise! Because men sure are the best arbiters of whether or not something’s sexist!

Mum made me a patchwork quilt from a some old T-Shirts I was really attached to but were either too worn to wear anymore or I never wore. She quilted around each of the designs so the Pooh and the Octopuses are raised compared to most of the quilt. The backing and border is an old linen sheet that had already been topped and turned so there is a seam down the backing and the stuffing is from a pillow that exploded. You can’t see the quilting on the backside because there is a layer of cotton flannel inside that was quilted with the stuffing and t-shirts before the backing was added so the back is really soft against my skin. The purple octopus is backed with the back of the mustard t-shirt to give it stability because that was really worn to death. The back of the purple, blue and striped t-shirts were the only leftovers and I have plans for the purple and blue to become bras/knickers with the striped one becoming a collar on a rugby shirt for mum.
It's brilliant and I will love it to death.

I’ll never understand why Hermione introduces Luna as Loony Lovegood before she corrected herself in OoTP. In the movie anyways. It’s been some time since I’ve read the books
This is one of those moments when I’m really glad I’ve never watched the films. In the books we’re introduced to Luna through this scene:
‘What are you talking about?’ said Ginny, who had squeezed past Neville to peer into the compartment behind him. ‘There’s room in this one, there’s only Loony Lovegood in here -”
Rowling, J.K.. Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (Book 5) (p. 185). Pottermore Limited. Kindle Edition.
Which tells us that Ginny is thoughtless, which we are consistently shown throughout the books, about how her words could hurt people but not cruel as that is not directly aimed at Luna and she follows it by saying:
‘Don’t be silly,’ said Ginny, laughing, ‘she’s all right.’
She slid the door open and pulled her trunk inside. Harry and Neville followed. ‘Hi, Luna,’ said Ginny, ‘is it OK if we take these seats?’
Rowling, J.K.. Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (Book 5) (p. 185). Pottermore Limited. Kindle Edition.
We get a massive amount of information both about Ginny and Luna in those three spoken lines and where they are spoken, all of which could have been portrayed on film with a scene transition.
Order of the Phoenix is my favourite of the books and one I come back to most often because it is full of these moments that feel very light and clear but are incredibly information dense and develop the minor characters brilliantly without losing momentum.
