i haven't had much to show lately, but that's because i've been working on the rough storyboards! here's a sneak peek for yall

14. Does your oc know other disabled people? What are their dynamics like?
yes, but i haven't fully developed this part since Logan comes after Season 0, and my focus has been entirely on that. 😆
my rough thoughts:
as a disabled MECHFIA boss (prosthetic arm, chronic pain due to his acid burns, cluster headaches, BPD, PTSD, autism, etc.), Logan tends to employ other disabled "outcasts" like himself. not because of DEI or anything, it's just easier to take advantage of them when they tend to be in disadvantaged positions.
i've always intended his underboss, Deborah, to have a mobility aid, like crutches. unsure why yet. i know i want them to fold into her motocycle-thingy so she can drive around looking badass.
i belieeeeve Vero will have Tourette's Syndrome.
the others i'm still deciding.
as far as dynamics go...yall know Logan is an asshole. he mocks people for anything if he wants to tear them down, and that includes their disabilities. but most people in Logan's circle have earned a "pass" when it comes to that -- he'll still be a dick towards them, but he doesn't use their disability to insult them.
👆🏻THIS ISN'T 👆🏻 because Logan has consciously decided "oh, i shouldn't weaponize this thing about someone they can't control and are already mocked for". it's because now that's His Person and he doesn't really want to hurt His Person. so, certain comments and insults are off the table for His People.
like, for example, if Vero's tics are annoying him (esp if he's overstimulated), he won't tell her to shut up anymore, he'll just say he has a headache and leaves the room. she's still aware that she's part of the reason for him leaving, but at least he just removes himself from the situation instead of expecting her to control something she can't.
and Logan will praise their disabilities if they're of use to him. he rarely finds Deborah's crutches to be a hinderance...probably because he made them, so he gets to fawn over the tech. he never bitches at her to speed up because he already isn't that fast of a walker due to his short legs. and if someone else tells her to hurry up or makes a big deal, hoooo boy, Logan will tear them a new one.
again, not because he's a Disabled Ally, but because Deborah is his person (and his FAVORITE person, btw) so don't you fucking DARE disrespect her, only HE can do that!
when it comes to how his employees treat his disabilities, there is very much a "don't ask, say nothing" policy because of how sensitive their boss is. the only thing he's open to answering questions about is his prosthetic arm, since he made the tech himself. you can sense a pattern here...
having a very weird surge of certain accounts with certain values interacting with my work today, so a friendly reminder that MECHFIA:
is and will always be anti-censorship
depicts disturbing, sensitive themes that pro-censorship people might not agree with
is made by someone who loves dark content and "darkships" (the more fucked up, the better!)
depicts a diverse range of characters (both protagonists and antagonists) with paraphilias and paraphilic disorders (there's a difference!)
does not oversimplify paraphilias into "good" and "bad" or "not harmful" and "harmful"
expects the viewer to form their own opinions without me having to spell out what is right and wrong

i have gotten many questions about my whump stories over time and now, i have all fifteen of them compiled into one pretty Milanote (linked below). each board has a summary, links to where you can find the series, and some of my art as visuals.
the next installment will be Tumblr masterposts (with taglists, 'cause we're bringing those back), which i'll link on the boards instead of the blog tags. but until then, allow me to show you...

changing my original plan
so this was my original plan right?
but after reading the KOG artbook, i realized that the level of detail i need for my environments and objects is not enough to comfortably animate seven episodes of this series. and while i could make myself draw out refs for those things too, it's really hard for me to do that if i'm not actually drawing them for a scene.
so now my plan looks more like this:
we finish Marian's ref and still put her and David's intro videos in the queue. i'm definitely going to finish the intro series as planned.
but after that, instead of working on the opening, i'm going to start storyboarding the first scene of Episode 1, and this will be my rough storyboard, just to give me a better idea of environments, objects, and background characters. the rough storyboard will be minimal detail with a focus on shapes + silhouettes.
then, once the whole scene has a rough storyboard, i'm going to use that to make my refs -- the settings, the objects, the incidentals (bg characters), etc. and then i'll use those to make the final storyboard, which is what i'll be going off of when i start animating.
i'll be doing this process per scene, not per episode, because i know my ADHD ass will get bored storyboarding that long. so each scene will be:
voice lines (since i'll need those in the storyboard and for animating lip sync later)
rough storyboard
references
final storyboard
rough animation frames
clean animation frames (lined)
flat color
render
final animation
i'm essentially constructing the episode scene-by-scene, and i'll be keeping MOST of this process as a tier reward (BTS, behind the scenes) on my Buymeacoffee, because obviously i'm not going to be spoiling the episode as i go. but i will post teasers and wips here and there!
as far as streaming goes, we're at a point where i don't want to be revealing too much on stream, so i will most likely just be streaming the reference-making step, and other projects not MECHFIA related.
once i've finished my commission queue, commissions will ONLY be open to close friends (and someone i promised to give a commish to) so i can focus entirely on MECHFIA, and my other projects on the weekends.
i did not achieve much on tonight's stream (ended up abandoning the animation just bc it's stalling the intro video), but i got some commish work done and am in a better mood thanks to the coffee, so i may use that to work on StD some more tonight.

it was a good learning experience + it always helps bolster my confidence to do these, even if they don't get done, because i know that even if MECHFIA won't look EXACTLY how it looks in my head, i can still make something i'm happy with and proud to show off :)
