Might as well drop my two cents on High Guardian Spice.
I won't really go off on the quality issues, because everyone has discussed the animation issues, wooden plank voice acting, mic issues, etc.
First off, this show has potential. There's a reason the magical school genre is popular, and giving it a mature rating could open the door for deeper plots. There were a few good characters that you could have worked with. Mainly Amaryllis and Snapdragon. They had better character arcs from what I saw.
The other thing that had potential was the new magic and the rot. Why not tie them together? New magic is causing the rot, but it's kept hush hush from everyone else. Maybe Sage's mother knew that and that's why she wanted Sage to not use new magic. (but no one believed her and just called her a prude)
For Carroway, I would have changed his delivery and the type of magic he used. This is a show with an adult rating, you don't need to explain something like we're 12 years old. Here's how I would do this:
Rose: But you look so different in these pictures
*Carroway snaps his fingers and returns to his non altered body
Carroway: I know. I used transformation magic to alter my body into one I prefer.
*Draw a sigil and change back
Short, succinct, subtle. You know what he's implying, it's shown, not lectured. Also it makes use of the magic to make life easier, and gives Carroway more agency by giving him control of the transformation magic.
Out of all the characters, Sage has the most potential, given the magical setting.
Make her a history buff. Old magic is disappearing and she wants to preserve it and that's why she's hesitant to use newer magic
Tie the new magic and the rot together. She was told the secret by her mother, and didn't want to contribute to the problem
Next, Snapdragon. Don't make it so he wants to become a woman, make it so he's just a guy who enjoys crossdressing. Feminine guys are a huge thing in anime, and they're well loved (Astolfo, Felix, etc). Make it so he builds confidence while doing so. Show him standing up for himself, taking initiative, etc.
Finally, this is to adress the fact that it was put on crunchyroll. Most people agree that the show wouldn't have gotten any attention if it was put on netflix, disney, or cartoon network. Crunchyroll is supported so that fans of japanese animation have a chance to support the studios and creators. Taking that money and sinking it into other projects like crunchyroll has means that the money is not going to those who are creating anime.
The biggest criticism I have of the show is that it's boring with wasted potential. A poorly done show can be salvaged with good writing and characters, but a boring show is hard to salvage.
