KILLING EVE 4x08 | Hello, Losers
Jodie Comer for ES magazine! Jfc!
Eve throwing the knife to Villainelle is perfect representation of me in PE
I mean….
My two idiots 😂
Villanelle
I loved watching the complex emotions of the scenes between Eve and Villanelle this episode. It starts in the scene where Eve is helping Villanelle put on the shirt. You can see Villanelle watching her so carefully and there’s just utter confusion on her face, because she truly doesn’t understand why Eve is helping her. Eve just had her arrested and now here she is holding her hand and brushing her hair out of her face and buttoning her shirt. So V starts trying to get answers.
“You had me arrested.” A statement of fact, but one thrown out in the hope of getting some sort of response so that Villanelle can figure out what this is. Guilt? Affection?
“I thought having you arrested might be good for me.” Okay, not really what Villanelle was going for but it’s a start. So she prods further.
“Was it?” Nothing. No denial, no I’m sorry it was such a mistake please forgive me. Eve gives her nothing. So I think Villanelle takes that as a silent affirmation, which is why we see the disappointment wash over her face.
Then of course, Eve immediately starts talking about the Twelve, so Villanelle gets up and leaves. Eve follows her and steals a scooter for her. Sweet, but Villanelle just finds it mostly annoying because she has asked Eve to leave how many times now? But she won’t. They share a split second of honesty “I thought I lost you…I didn’t like it.” But the rest of the interaction is again, all about the Twelve. So Villanelle once again tells Eve to just go
She has her little meeting with Gunn and finds out Helene is in Berlin. V knows Carolyn is in Berlin as well, so she extends an olive branch of sorts to Eve by calling her to let her Carolyn is there. Villanelle isn’t the one who needs to make amends in this situation, but I think part of her is still unable to fully let go.
But then there is THE scene. Villanelle hears Eve enter the room, confused about her presence there. Then Helene brings up the bath and the kiss and it all clicks. This is what Eve had meant when she said Helene was “punishing” her. Villanelle snaps and any give a damn she had left completely shatters in that moment. Any hope she had that Eve’s actions were motivated by something other than guilt, dashed. Any belief she had that she was special to Eve in any way, gone. For how could she be if Eve could so flippantly get involved with the woman who Villanelle views as enemy number one? So she turns it off. The emotions and the humanity that she worked so hard to connect with, all so she could be what she thought Eve needed, she shuts it down and all is that is left in that moment is Villanelle, the cold-blooded assassin.
She kills Helene, staring Eve down the whole time. Asserting her power. Reestablishing her control over her life. Did she want Eve to see? Yes. But did she do it for Eve? No. Villanelle absolutely killed Helene for herself and no one else. After all, she set out to do this before she ever knew Eve was involved. But once the deed is done and Helene is dead, all that remains is the sting of Eve’s betrayal and Villanelle’s realization that it’s time to let go. So she walks away. She leaves Eve with nothing but four little words: “I’m done with you”
So 4x07 could and should be interesting, because this is Eve’s moment where she needs to decide to either fully step into this or walk away for good. And if she does decide to step into it, how does she possibly start to make up for everything she’s put Villanelle through? A HUGE conversation needs to happen in the next episode. A lot of ugly truths need to be dealt with and blunt honesty needs to occur. Without it, I don’t see how Villaneve ever stand a chance at recovering from this
