Much needed update: I’m in my second month of internal medicine residency and I am so grateful and feel so privileged for the position I am in!
I am living my dream! I am loving practicing medicine!
I’m still not sure if I should do hospitalist or primary care. Last month I wanted to be a hospitalist, but this week I want to live a chill life and be a PCP!

I don’t want to speak too soon, but the workplace I’m currently at, is my favorite workplace too date. And it’ll be hard to find one again just like that.
I love the diversity here. I love the kindness here. I love the work ethic here. I’m surrounded by people who support me. I definitely want to stay here in the long run, and I really hope they hire me InshaAllah.
I enjoy working with nurse practitioners more than with doctors. I find most nurses to be kind, helpful and empathetic. They do not rush when they’re in a patient’s room, and really listen to their concerns. Sometimes I do not agree with their management plans, but at least they are nice.
I find attending physicians to be arrogant with their knowledge.
I will grow up to be a physician InshaAllah, but with the empathy of a nurse.
Today is my first day at EMC. I’m excited and nervous. Not sure which one I am, more.
I am incredibly grateful to God Almighty, that I am sure. I want to make the best of this opportunity. I wanted to revise so much before my first day, but I did not. I get scared opening up my revision knowing I do not know anything at all. Although I in fact do know some things, but this feeling of imposter syndrome gets to you BAD.
I hope the work environment is really nice. I hope people are nice to me on my face and on my back. My last work experience wasn’t so good. I want this one to be different, in a very good way. InshaAllah.
O Allah, please make this experience for me very beneficial for me, both in terms of dunya and the akhirah. Please purify my intentions and accept all that I do here as good deeds. What fascinates me about the US healthcare system is the use of technology in healthcare. Like in cardiology, stethoscope has become obsolete and a portable echo probe connected to the phone is what's used to diagnose murmurs and stuff.
Did you know? Drinking large amounts of tea or coffee can theoretically lower thiamine body stores.
Did you know? Thiamine deficiency is more common in cultures that rely heavily on a rice-based diet.
Always see an echo of the patient before varicose veins procedure, or the glue can go to the heart through PFO or any other hole of the heart, and cause stroke.
Before varicose veins procedure, the patients should wear compression stockings for 6 weeks.
Remember the small talk with the patient and note it down for future visits (for example, talks about daughters, loves skiing)
In STEMI, there are always reciprocal changes in the other leads. ALWAYS MAKE SURE OF THAT before classifying it as a STEMI
Cardiomyopathy: weakness of the heart; EF: <35%.
Medical management of cardiomyopathy (for the first 3 months):
ACEi
ARBs
Aldosterone antagonists
BiDil (hydralazine + nitrates)
Or cardiomyopathy can lead to CHF and of course we don't want that
CTA and cardiac cath are both great. CTA has the edge of being cheap, quick and a good visualization. But cardiac cath has the benefit of being both diagnostic and therapeutic at the same time.
