I have a weekly schedule (see below) to divide activity for all my currently active RP blogs. Outside of a few exceptions if I get inspiration for something, I will only be posting for blogs on their scheduled days. You can send me asks, memes, and reply to threads on off days, but I may wait to respond until that blog is scheduled. Note: I'm a night owl, so most of my writing is done between 9PM and 5AM (EST).

{out of the sahara} Yeeeah, my muse for Ardeth is just so low right now, probably because I'm really stressed out about work... and I will be for the next few weeks. My boss wants to overhaul the whole class we teach, so it's gonna be a lot of extra work on top of the semester starting this week too. I have a feeling that my muse for Ardeth is going to be low until I'm more relaxed and able to focus on writing. I'll just let him be for now, and hopefully once the worst of this busy time at work is over, he'll wake up again. Until then, thanks for being so understanding, and I'll be here again as soon as I can. <3

{out of the sahara} So I've been dealing with really bad eyestrain and a headache all night, I'm pretty stressed out about work, and ngl, I've just been sitting here streaming Farscape for hours, heh. Ardeth is pretty quiet anyway, so I think I'm going to let him rest for today. I'll try not to skip him again in two weeks. Thanks for understanding, and I'll see everyone here on 1/18.

Tracing the tattoos on his cheeks, Wanda hummed to herself, a tune from their past that she would sing to him.

Ardeth smiled, his eyes closing as Wanda's fingers traced his tattoos on his cheeks. When he heard the song she was humming, his first thought was that he liked it, but his second was that he thought he'd heard it before. "That song... It seems very familiar to me. What is it?" he asked, his eyes flickering open. It had almost given him a feeling of deja vu and a sense of comfort the more he listened to it. "You have a lovely voice," he whispered, smiling warmly at her.

Although he wished there was some way he could reassure Wanda that his death in his previous life had not been her fault, he knew there was likely nothing he could say to alleviate that guilt. But maybe there was a better perspective from which she could look at things... "And if I had not been with you, I would never have known the wonderful woman that you are. I never would have known your love or had all of our shared experiences together. The pursuit of love and happiness are not without their risks Wanda. If I loved you, then it was my choice to make, and I made it knowing the risks. You cannot blame yourself for choices I made."

Ardeth smiled gently and wrapped his arm around her, drawing her closer into his protective embrace. "I am not going anywhere, Wanda. Try not to let the future close in on your before it even arrives. For now, we are safe and happy. Let us enjoy that for now, yes? We will deal with hardships and challenges as they arise, but if we exhaust ourselves now in worrying what might happen, we will not be prepared to face what does."

[ @medjaichieftain ] "You are the witch, Wanda, that our chieftain has taken by his side, yes?" asked one of Ardeth's medjai warriors. "He has been gravely wounded and requests your presence. It is not certain he will live." With that, the man gestured for her to follow him to a tent where Ardeth was being treated for two bullet wounds, one in his left thigh, and the the other in the right side of his chest.

Wanda had been on edge when the man had approached. It had been as before, someone from the medjai had approached her, Ardeth nowhere in sight. Though the difference was this time, the bad news wasn't that they were going to kill him. This time, it was that he was already wounded and needed her there. Everything in her ran cold. "Where is he? Who did this?" She asked as she moved to follow him, a mixture of grief and anger bubbling up. "How long ago did it happen?"

Ardeth truly hoped that Wanda was not already starting to think along the wrong lines. It was not that he did not trust her, for he did. It was more that he understood better than some how trauma and grief could sometimes distort the mind and change a good person into one that desired revenge. Wanda had already been through so much, and so even in his weakened state and through all his pain, Ardeth still worried for her, that this might prove to be the straw that broke the proverbial camel's back.

He heard her beg him, and it broke his heart. Try as he might to stay awake, Ardeth knew instinctively that he was losing that battle. Maybe... he was losing the battle to survive too. Only Allah could say for sure, and he placed his faith in him, to guide towards whatever fate Ardeth was to have at this time, but... He began to feel a tingling sensation where his gunshot wounds were. Lifting his head to look at what Wanda was doing took all his strength. Was she... doing something to help him? He didn't remember her saying she could heal...

"Wanda... What are you..." he tried to ask, but his head fell back again. He just didn't have the strength. The pain was beginning to ease, though, and he assumed that to be her doing. "Thank you..." he whispered, his tense expression relaxing as he felt some relief.

"He was a high priest of Osiris and adviser to Pharoah Seti I some three thousand years ago. He was charged with the high crimes of daring to read and summon black magic from the Book of the Dead, of having carnal knowledge of the pharoah's concubine and bodyguard, Anck-su-namun, and of conspiring with her and succeeding to assassinate him. For his crimes, he was sentenced to the Hom-Dai, the most horrific and powerful of all ancient curses to be placed on the condemned."

Ardeth was wholly unaware of how dark, authoritative, and even a bit attractive he sounded whenever he spoke of those historic times and ancient evils. "He is buried beneath a temple in what was once Hamunaptra, the City of the Dead. Why do you ask?"

All of this was so worrying and troubling to Ardeth. This was the exact opposite of what he wanted, some powerful, cursed being reaching out to his equally powerful love. If she gave into him, the results could be catastrophic for the world, yet... he trusted her, even as afraid as he was. "Be strong, Wanda. If he failed with his first few attempts, he will likely return stronger next time. His power is limited right now, but it is still compelling to mortals."

Ardeth smiled and wrapped his arms around Wanda as she held him around his waist. "That we will. I had thought it sufficient to simply keep people away from his tomb, but if he is able to reach out in dreams, perhaps we need a more proactive approach to containing him. Though, what that might be eludes me at present."

Ardeth knew better than to defy the gods, even though he'd placed his faith in Allah more so than in the ancient Egyptian deities. Gods did not appreciate mortals thinking they knew better, or imagining that they could change the course of fate or destiny. Even so, he understood it, and as he heard the fear and defiance mix in Wanda's voice, Ardeth could not help but feel guilty for being the cause of her distress.

"I am... trying... my best..." Ardeth said with a weak smile. "If I leave you... it will not be... for lack... of wanting... to stay." His skin was clammy and far too pale, but he was trying to remain conscious. This was not his first encounter with going into shock or with having a painful wound, and so he drew from that experience to try and steady himself. "I love you... Wanda. Please... always... remember that," he said while she did her best for him. It was nice, feeling her magic tingle within his wounds. Like a balm that carried her warmth with it.

Ardeth would've been the last person to ask about modern songs, since his lifestyle removed him from much of the modern world, save for when he visited cities. Judging by the way the song made him feel, though, he guessed that it was likely an older song that his soul knew but his current identity may not. He wasn't sure if that, or simply being with Wanda, had been the thing to stir up those memories just now.

As Wanda said she didn't want to harm him, or overwhelm him by drawing out too many memories at once, Ardeth's gaze was set on her, wondering. Why did she always say that? Did she not think him strong enough to handle remembering his past life? Or was it something else? "You still harbor a lot of guilt with you, don't you, Wanda?" he guessed. "Let go of it. I do not blame you for what happened to me in my previous life. It was not your fault. I would much rather you unburden yourself of this heavy guilt you carry around with you."

{out of the sahara} So I realized I screwed up the last time I posted and said I'd be here on 12/14. Nope, it's 12/7, which is today, I counted the weeks wrong, haha. *epic facepalm* Sorry about that. So I will, in fact, be doing some things here tonight, lol. Next weekend will be my other group of Sat muses, and then I'll be back here again on 12/21. That's the plan. XD

Was it possible that that's why the song had made him feel the way it had? Because his soul was remembering it from a previous life? It seemed so farfetched an idea, and yet... well, Ardeth knew firsthand that the memories of a soul were strong and deeply ingrained, transcending time. "I did feel comforted by it. I must be remembering it, then, from very long ago," she said softly.

"They are returning to me, little by little. In dreams, most often, but you draw them out as well. Spending time with you, speaking with you... it helps me to remember. Just as you did with that song just now. I do not gamble, but if I did, I would have wagered that tonight I shall dream of you, and that song, and of a memory we shared with it. That is usually how it happens, these moments of vague remembrance, and then my dreams will add substance to the memories."

“You know.. I have learned that in modern times, there is this holiday. Halloween. Where everyone dresses up. It seems like fun.”

Ardeth nodded, though he also shruggd. "There is such a holiday, yes. It is not one my people recognize or celebrate, but... I know that many in Egypt's cities do choose to participate. I believe the act of dressing up in costume is meant to protect one against evil spirits by disguising oneself as one of them." He chuckled a little. "From what I can tell, it is a harmless holiday. There are other religious reasons for it in other cultures, but with regard to costumery, I believe anyone who wishes to can participate."

He smiled playfully. "Do you really have an interest in such a thing?" he asked. "What would you choose for a costume, if you did participate?" And for that matter... what would he choose? Ardeth had absolutely no idea. "If you would like to, we could put together costumes and go to Cairo. I know there are many there who favor Halloween."

"Oh, some do indeed try to, for that exact reason. They assume that it is easier for the dead to make contact of Halloween, and they are correct," Ardeth said. "Fortunately, they do so with seances and spirit boards and other methods which are largely unsuccessful. I am glad that there are not many who know and understand the complex rituals necessary for truly bringing the dead back to life, or for awakening ancient evils from their tombs. If there were, the medjai would be far busier than we already are."

"I am not sure either. To be honest, I have a number of things that are going to identify me as a medjai regardless of my clothing. My tattoos, for example. And I wonder if dressing up in costume could be considered a form of deception." Ardeth had certain rules of conduct he was expected to adhere to, and he did his best each day to do just that. "Perhaps for one day, it would be forgiven," he added.

He smiled a bit shyly as she kissed him. Her affection always had a way of bringing out his happiness, no matter what sort of day he'd been having prior. "Of course. I feel it is my duty to help you reacquaint yourself with this world, and traveling to Cairo during a celebration is a wonderful way to do that. So long as you do not feelit would overwhelm you. You are still adjusting, after all," he said protectively.
