Often I see people that says that your DND character must absolutely be related to the plot of the campaign to actually be interesting and having something in the conflict, I do however totally disagree as once upon a time I had a character that the only reason he was in the adventure was because he though that the other players where cool.
This led him to enter a war where he had no reason to be in, rage bait a villain that he had no reason to hate other than his friends hated her, they had reasons, and my guy was such a good friend so much that it was his descendant to lastly kill that bitch way far in the future just because my guy was a fucking real one.
It was also fun how he hated all of the villains for no reason at all since he didn't know shit about then, the villains also had no reason to be against him besides the fact that he was a prick.
