people in the ofmd fandom love to judge everything characters-who-are-not-Ed do through the framework of them being pirates who kill people for a living, and everything Ed does through a framework of him being anything but a pirate. so when he does anything violent it gets dissected and taken completely out of context and given very stupid labels.

is it bad to cut off your employee's toes and feed them to him? well, yeah. obviously if I went to work tomorrow and my boss fed me my own toes I'd have some complaints. but I also have not tried to kill my boss' boyfriend multiple times or gotten the entire company arrested. I work in an office.

if you are a pirate captain and your first mate tries to kill your boyfriend multiple times and gets everyone arrested and then has the audacity to be a dick to you about it... well at that point you-the-pirate-captain would be pretty justified in just straight up killing him. anything short of that is weirdly merciful, actually.

and if he specifically requested that you go back to being the type of guy who feeds people their own toes for a laugh, then showing up at his bedside with a comically large pair of scissors is funny as hell.

Some people say the only way this could have ended was in tragedy and that’s just absurd. This is a comedy. The apocalypse is a backdrop for hijinks. Plenty of people have come up with their own happy endings without any issues.

I call bullshit that when given a room full of books to be used as the book of life that Aziraphale’s and Crowley’s first thought is to summon mommy when they could just write the world back in themselves.

I call bullshit that when given the opportunity to ask for any type of world they want that they lack the imagination to bring back the old one just without heaven, hell, and the apocalypse having power over humanity or celestial beings from that day forward.

I call bullshit that they would ever choose to destroy each other.

They had every option. The story felt rail roaded.
