Oh god, she was just going to break down again. She could feel her bottom lip begin to tremble as he spoke to her and said such things. He wanted to stand up for her and in all honesty she wasn’t sure if she was worth it. Not sure if the effort was even worth it.

The situation was already a mess, he didn’t need to get tangled up in it. However, with each of his words she seemed to wonder if his heart could get any bigger or if she could love him even more… even with her emotions as tumultuous as they were.

"This person… believes me to be a bother. I’m always around when they don’t want me around and… well… I-I don’t want that to happen with you. This isn’t the first person I’ve pushed away like that."

Henrietta sighed, looking up at him seriously. “J-Just… please tell me that I’m not going to push you away like that?” It was less of a question and more of a plea… something she needed to hear to keep going. In her most vulnerable moment she needed to be sure he wouldn’t leave.

He paused, listened attentively, and felt the fury in him rise. He was shaking now, questioning just what kind of monster was capable of reducing such a strong girl into her current state.

And to learn that it wasn't the first? Well... it wasn't something he was going to let go anytime soon...

...Until she looked at him with such desperation, such need to just... stay, that for a moment he forgot his blinding fury, felt empathy well up inside and held her tight. He was still shaking, that was a given but... at the moment, anger will have to be put to one side. He bit down on his lip, probably drew blood at a point, and shook his head.

"I could never... ever, leave you. You're no bother to me and I can assure you will never become one. I won't push you away, or drive you away, or hurt you. If we ever... ever part ways or this doesn't work out, I can assure you that you're not the one who will be at fault. I love you too much to leave you, Hen... that's the truth."

He held her tighter and laid his head against her shoulder, repeating the words "I love you" over and over again.

What the hell could Henrietta tell him about her problem that made everything come out okay? Probably nothing… especially since every way she told it in her head she ended up sounding like a spineless idiot.

Or overdramatic.

Or just really stupid.

G-God, the list went on and on with just bad explanations for why she was so upset. Though… she’d never seen Sasume like this ever before either… with that expression. He looked… extremely angry.

"…N-No need to get worked up… o-over something silly I’m just upset over."

It was true, it was silly and she knew it… she also didn’t want anyone in trouble or fights either.

"No, this isn't right!" Enough was enough. He could see she was reluctant to share what had happened but it physically pained him to see her so broken like this. He knew that whoever did this was a close friend of hers, otherwise it would not have affected her to such a degree.

"You being upset isn't silly, you're human! I worry about you and I just wish I could do so much more to keep you happy. I'm sorry if I'm stepping over my boundaries but I just hate seeing you like this."

His expression softened as he held her face in his hands and wiped her tears from her cheeks. He was still frowning though, clearly and thoroughly angered with whoever was responsible for this. "I won't stand by idly anymore while you endure this. You deserve so much better than how you're being treated right now. I will have a word with whomever I owe this displeasure with and I will set a few things straight."

She gave a twirl and were those… stars in her eyes? Definitely have to pull back before her imagination runs away from her. “They may be shy too though. D-Do you realize how long it took me to gather up the nerve to just… comment on your stories online!? It was so nerve-wracking… especially when I thought you would read them.— A-And of course I’d go with you! …I’d go anywhere with you… but Europe sounds more like something out of a book… a-and absolutely fantastic.”

She wasn’t sure what was more distracting. The loud pounding of her heart against her rib cage or the wonderful smile Sasume was wearing in front of her. It took a moment for his words to sink in and when they did they really packed a wallop.

With her arms wrapping around him to reciprocate the hug she was hardly dwelling on her large frame against his smaller one. All she knew was what she wanted to do… and she went for it.

She kissed him. It was short and not exactly lingering but it’s what she could muster up in that moment. Actions always spoke louder than her words ever could.

"I-It might… take a bit. A bit for me to not be afraid o-of some things. But… I love you too… and I know that’s going to take us far. I-In the meantime… I can make you cupcakes with artificial sweetener… yeah?”

For a moment he was scared he might have said something completely out of line, his brain wracking for the right words to apologize to her in case he actually did. He saw the look on her face, saw the surprise form before shock completely took over her. ..

...And felt the gears in his brain come grinding into a halt as her lips met his. The contact was brief, sent him into a short elated euphoria, before she parted. Something in him swelled, an emotion he could not describe .

...Was this hope? Happiness? ..Love?

"T-Take your time... really..!" Great, his damn stutter was back. He knew his face was as red as a beet, maybe with the sheen of a ripe tomato on top of that. "I... I don't want to force anything on you or make you uncomfortable. I just... I just want you to be yourself... b-but first..."

He smiles at her and holds her hand in his own. He digs into one of his pockets and nods. "I want you to have this. It's.. It's a spare key to my apartment, i-if you ever want to visit and stuff... what's mine is yours. F-Feel free to drop by if you need to... goodness knows I'd love the c-company..."

He shakes his head and holds her shoulders as he looked her in the eye. "Believe me, I'd eat your cupcakes even if my life depended on it! I love anything you make, because I know you made it and it'd be delicious! You're not being smothering at all, not one bit."

He pulls her into a gentle hug, a bit embarrassed that his head could only meet her shoulders... but gives her a hug anyway. "I know... I try to come home as much as I can a-and I've been preparing something really special for you. But..."

He pauses and considers his choice of words for the moment. "Believe me, it's going to take a lot more than that to 'overload' me of yourself. I love being around you, because I love you. I love everything about you, so... you... you can let your guard down around me, you know? I won't judge you."

"I love you for who you are, and that's not going to change anytime soon, or anyhow."

Travels….? How much travelling have you done?

"I've been all over, sometimes out of the country as well! My book signings take me to all sorts of places and I get to interview very interesting and nice people. I've been all over Japan and nearby countries, but I've never been to Europe. I've refused all the offers to go there, you see."

They said I can have sugar substitutes but pure sugar intake needs to be taken into a minimum. I'm okay!"

My travels bring me to places that almost always have some form of exotic way of eating a local delicacy. I remember the time I tried a starchy black concoction... only to find out that it was a soup made literally from blood. When I asked around, they gave me a name for the dish: "Bloody Soup". I had thought it was peculiar, so I asked for the recipe.

...Needless to say I wish I didn't.

I came back to town to visit my girlfriend and found her crying her eyes out because she lost a friend to some, in my opinion, rather pathetic circumstances. The situation, not whoever is involved in this. Now generally I'm a very laid back guy, someone who avoids conflict as much as he possibly can...

But when I see just how hurt she is with the fact that whoever did this to her just affected her at such a level... I may very well have a confrontation with whoever this person is.

You do not, under any circumstances, have the right to make her, no... anyone feel like this because of your own hypocritical and conflicting attitude. If you want to let go of the past, fine! Let go of the past! It's not an easy thing to do, believe me, I've been there. But I managed.

And don't give me that bullshit that you can't because you're so engrossed in your own ego that you can't see beyond yourself and what you're doing to her.

I hope you are seeing this, whoever you are, because I will be having a word with you.

And I'm not talking about the pleasant chats either, no sir! This will be a firm confrontation between two logical adults. I do not mean to make this personal but when you involve myself in your little quarrel with my g... girlfriend Henrietta then you are in for a world of trouble mister!

Casanova Has Arrived

[Henrietta was on sensory overload now. He just pulled her back in all soft and sweet and oh god she wanted to do that again! Her heart was racing, just from the moment they had shared just then. It just wouldn’t slow down.]

[She took a moment and looked at him. His glasses a bit fogged and just… that smile. It wasn’t something she would have easily admitted to but it made her weak in the knees. Thankfully she wasn’t standing.]

Y-You… shouldn’t be sorry…

[The brunette leaned over again and tried to kiss him again, this time with purpose. Her arms finding more comfortable niches above his shoulders and meeting behind his neck. Oh man, she really hoped this was the right thing to do. He kissed her too right? That meant this was okay right?]

[Well she’d certainly hoped so. This was the first time in a very long time she had willingly stepped out of her comfort zone. She really hoped he wouldn’t hate her for it.]

The pounding in his ears made it hard to think, made it difficult to process what was happening right now. He had arrived at her apartment and was given the okay to go in, had plopped down on the couch and something happened and they were both in this situation. They hadn't even held hands yet! They weren't going too fast were the--

All conscious thought came to a screeching halt as he felt her soft luscious lips against his own. He was thankful she couldn't see his eyes right now, though he wished he was able to see hers. His lenses had steamed up quite a bit that it proved impossible to see through them, and he couldn't help but jump at her arms being around his neck; not out of reluctance but more of surprise. He hadn't expected her to reciprocate the way she did, but that wasn't a bad thing.

...In fact he kind of liked it.

"Nn..."

It was very warm. The heat was almost scalding. He had never kissed before but had listened intently in his interviews with people who had been in relationships as intimate as one can get. The way they described the kiss, how the electricity could be felt between two people, how the contrast of the strong and determined complemented by the gentle and supple, it was accurate enough with what he was experiencing now. He felt the heat in his face turn up even more, and with her leaning against him like that...

After a good few moments of enjoying the sensation, he hadn't even realized that his own hands had snaked themselves somehow on her waist, holding her steady and close as he eagerly returned her kiss. An advice that had been given to him (the lady had giggled when he admitted he never had his first kiss, and practically flustered his way into apology when he declined the offer to be given the experience first-hand) was to go with the flow, not think about what to do next with what and just enjoy the ride.

...Perhaps the pitching tent in his pants showed his enjoyment a bit too much.

But then again, one wouldn't be as conscious of that when they were too busy licking the lips of their partner right?

Like A Coiled Spring

[At first, she didn’t remember really. Those words weren’t ringing bells or bringing up strong memories. It was something she would say but when did she even—!]

[The realization had hit her like a ton of bricks. As a pastime Henrietta would look up stories to read on her downtime, like many fans of many things. Through a link from an online friend she had stumbled upon a wonderful “utopian” collection.]

[She loved it.]

[The author knew ways to make everything feel alright and happy, even when she wasn’t. Said author decided to change the style of their works and Henrietta did not understand the backlash. She was just speaking her mind. That was the only idea she had and — …He had intended to end his life?]

…You’re… Megane-fojushi…?

[The brunette was stunned. She had so many questions for him, more than the others had answered. But here they were, outside the Amagi Inn. His hands warming hers as snow fell into his unkempt hair. It was surreal and magical.]

My little comment… k-kept you here?

[Okay. Maybe she was a little moved to tears… but she swore, she was gonna smack him when everything was a little less perfect for even thinking about anything like taking his own life!]

That's it; it was done. She didn't remember him, and it was time for him to wake up. Even though it was just a dream, he couldn't help but hold back tears that threatened to spill from behind bespectacled cerulean pools. He had creeped her out, driven the one reason he kept going...

He failed his sister again... he failed everyone.... he failed--

Until he heard her, in a trembling voice, almost too slight he could have missed it, as their world seemed to still around them. MeganeFojushi, the pen name he used for his online works, the collection he would have hopefully published and sent into the world, the pen name he wore a mask online for. With a bright, trembling smile, he nods, his hands clasping hers even more as tears streamed down his cheeks.

She remembered.

"Y-Yes! It... It sounds silly but it was because of you and that comment that everything just... just fell into place. I... finished college after dropping out... I was going to quit writing but you saved me and told me it was okay. It was a very personal story for me and you told me that it was okay to change..." he said. God he didn't want to wake up now. Whatever force kept him asleep, please, don't let that bus get to Inaba yet.

"You saved my life Miss Hen... and I wanted to thank you p-personally! And then I saw you and..." he trailed off. He closed his eyes, collected muddled thoughts, and let out a deep breath. "I saw you.... and my world crashed into a halt. I... I was extremely moved. I had no idea you had seen my work back from when I first started. You were one of my first supporters, and you stuck with me through the end! I thought to myself, why, why was she so adamant to see me succeed? I was just a writer among millions on this site right? But no, I could only imagine what I felt when I finally got to talk to you face to face."

"My heart skipped a beat when I saw you, heard your voice, saw you smile for the first time. F-Forgive me for being brash but... Miss Hen I..." he stammered. Emotion swelled up in his chest as the blush on his cheeks deepened even further, if that was even possible.

Don't mess this up Sasume. Two more words. Two more words man.

"I..."

His voice softened even more as he continued to gaze into her bright hazel eyes. God, she was beautiful.

"...Love you, Miss Hen..."

Whispers counted right?
