TEN STEPS TO MASTERING GOOGLE SEARCH
1. How can you search for an exact word or phrase?
Put quotation marks around the word or phrase.
2. How can you search for something on a specific site?
To specify the site google will find results from type site: followed by the site without a space.
3. How can you correctly search for a definition?
Type define: followed by the word you wish to define without a space, to get a definition.
4. How can you search for a specific product available within a specific price range?
In order to specify a prince range, name the product followed by the lower price, ellipses, and the higher price. It should look like this: PS4 $300…$400
5. How can you search for a specific file type?
If you’re looking for a specific file type, simply type filetype: followed by the kind of file you want, again, make sure there are no spaces.
6. How can you include or ignore words in your search?
To include a word in your search, place quotation marks around it. Like so: Rangers “New York”.
To exclude words from your search, precede the word you want to exclude with a minus sign ‘-‘. An example of this would be spider –man.
7. How can you find sites/pages similar to an existing one?
Type related: followed by the name of the existing site.
8. How can you confirm the exact form of a quote even if you were missing some of the words?
Replace every unknown word with an asterisk “*”. For example, “Not all those who * are lost.”
9. How can you search for pages containing two connected words?
Connect the two related words with a dash “-“.
10. How can you search for social media content containing a specific tag?
To search social media content you can use a hashtag “#” or at symbol “@” before the tag you are looking for.
