105 jaar geleden … toen reden er nog geen auto's rond, plastic bestond niet en er speelden enkel stomme films. Je kon nog geen televisie kijken en de balpen hier in m'n hand, werd pas een goeie 30 jaar later uitgevonden.

Memé groeide op in een steeds veranderende wereld, met gebeurtenissen die wij enkel uit de geschiedenisboeken kennen. De Titanic zonk toen écht en er vonden twee wereldoorlogen plaats. Er gebeurt héél veel in 105 jaar en misschien was ze daarom wel zo'n moderne madam.

Toen ik zelf nog een stukje jonger was wou ik een oversized trui. Je weet wel, zo eentje waarvan de rand tot onder m'n poep kwam en de schouders net niet tot aan m'n ellebogen. Ze nam mijn maten en vond dat ik dat toch wel héél groot wilde hebben. Maar met een simpele "jamaar memé, dat moet zo, da's in de mode" was de kous af en sloeg ze aan het breien. Ze begreep waarschijnlijk niet goed waarom die jeugd zo gek moest doen, maar vond het allemaal best ok als wij daar content mee waren.

Een moderne madam dus, die nooit van haar stoel leek af te komen. Kwam je binnen, dan wist je dat ze daar op haar plekje zat. En als ze op bezoek kwam zetten we speciaal voor haar een stoel klaar.

Ook al zat ze neer, ze was altijd bezig. Zoals onze kousen stoppen, tot er niks van de originele draad meer overbleef en we ze stiekem toch in de vuilbak gooiden. Strijken, breien, afdrogen, … en er ging geen feestje voorbij of ze streek geduldig alle lintjes van de pakjes vakkundig terug plat.

Zo zie ik je nog steeds zitten memé, met je kleurige kleedjes aan, op je stoel, je handen constant in de weer.
