honey is the only food product that never spoils. there are pots of honey that are over five thousand years old and still completely edible
i also want to point out we know it tastes the same even after thousands of years b/c archaeologists who discovered two thousand year old honey tasted it. presumably right after they looked at each other and went “what the hell here goes nothing”
I’m pretty sure they also identify human remains by taste. Archaeologists are straight up freaks.
No, no no… you identify bone from rock or other substances by touching it to your tongue. If it sticks, it’s bone. The taste itself has nothing to do with it. And most archaeologists won’t lick human bones if they know they’re human.
…and I realize that doesn’t actually do much to prove archaeologists aren’t freaks.
mai nam is jane and wen i dig i fynde some roks both smol and big i put my tung upon the stone for science yes i lik the bone
I’m sitting with a bunch of archaeologists and we just laughed so hard we CRIED we’re getting tshirts with this on them
I will never ever get tired of seeing bredlik poems. It is really one of the seminal art forms of the century. I am not being sarcastic.
If I ever don’t reblog this, assume I’m dead and archaeologists are licking my bones.
ykw I was really nervous about visiting India again for the first time after becoming a hijabi. I've heard so many awful things on the news about how Islamophobic my country has become that I half expected someone to yell slurs at me the second I landed on the airport.
Instead, I got support. Random uncles and bhaiyas (older brother) putting my bag up in the plane for me so that I don't have to reach up and ruin my scarf. Immigration officers calling me gudiya (doll) or bacha (child) and telling me where to go after the counter since I looked lost.
Police officers (yes, the supposed dreaded scum of our society who support all that is wrong) calling me beti (daughter) and asking if I needed help getting my things in the car.
And this isn't just about the men. Cleaning didis (older sister) in mall bathrooms offered to man the door to make sure no men walking past would see me redoing my scarf. Hindu aunties on the shuttle bus stood closer to me so the uncles won't accidentally touch me during the bumpy ride.
It really reminded me that the whole 'Hindu vs Muslim' 'we all hate each other' 'religious prejudice is our sole purpose in life' spiel spread across the internet is mostly carried out by politically influenced individuals, or people who are just genuinely cruel.
No, the average Indian does not see a hijabi or Maulana (Muslim man) and scream slurs or make faces. The average Indian does not care about our hijab or topi (religious cap). The average Indian has spent decades growing up in a country where a single apartment floor will house Sikhs, Muslims, Hindus, Christians, and atheists.
It is not the country that is cruel and corrupt. It is not our people that have led us to this point. Yes, many people in India still exist with religious prejudice in their hearts (from both sides, not just Hindus against Muslims). But these people have always been shamed or societally shunned up until the BJP government made it their sole motive in life to encourage such hypocritical behavior.
India has always been a diverse nation, and in that diversity we have fostered love and a sense of kinship uncaring of fickle things like one's religion or gender.
I hope our country remembers that, and works towards recreating it, even if it means opposing the BJP government that strives to do the opposite.
me: my tsunami evacuation route is up a nearby mountain. 2.5 miles of difficult terrain to safety, but the state provided wave simulations have the tsunami arriving in 10-30 minutes. i'd never make it in time on foot, or by the roads if the roads were even intact post-earthquake. so i've been considering riding the route on the horse, training bareback and halter-only so i could evacuate by horseback. getting the horse to come to me after something so upsetting as an extreme earthquake would be tricky, but it's a small pasture-
my coworker: hey. this conversation is making me anxious.
me: okay that's SO fair.....want to hear what kind of wedding i want to have instead?
coworker: that's a topic-jump
me (guy who just really loves planning stuff): actually not really

minor nuisance about being an atheist is when you or a loved one is sick, you can't say "keep us in your prayers." maybe "keep us in your thoughts" is better but it has a major meh factor. the best i can come up with is "KEEP OUR MISERIES IN MIND"
found this in an old folder and cleaned it up in like 2seconds because it's good

Studies from life of some swifts I met, who were under the care of a wonderful swift rehabilitator.
The climate crisis-fuelled heatwaves in Europe this summer have resulted in larger numbers of swift nestlings jumping early to escape the heat of their nests. These are some of the lucky ones who were found and given a second chance at taking to the skies of our changing world.
Ate one year old fish yesterday and strangely feel bad today.
I did not eat a baby fish. Stop this.
