The Centennial celebrations of the Women's National Book Association (WNBA)—second century prize
Honoring this excellent non-profit with the Second Century Prize is just one of the many great things the WNBA is doing for their centenniel - check it out and don’t forget to donate to your local little library.
A peek at some of the lingo often heard inside a publishing house.
For your reference.
My store is currently selling this in quantity in anticipation for the film. It looks incredible.
It would be the first bookstore in Washington east of the Anacostia River.
The bookstoer where I currently work has a dingy basement space for a future expansion. It’s always exciting to grow a book space. Especially in a community neighborhood. Especially in one of DC’s poorest neighborhoods.
Also love that this is in honor of a horrific cold case.
Does Tumblr even need to exist anymore now that InspiroBot is a thing? Does ANYTHING???

Sofia Coppola’s sixth movie, ‘The Beguiled,’ has been making waves recently. An adaptation of a 1966 book and 1971 movie featuring Clint…
Artists with a public platform should ALWAYS hold themselves to a high standard, and they have a responsibility to represent POC by hiring them as writers, producers and collaborators on creative projects. Artists often are criticized for creatively claiming the voice of others and not doing that voice justice.
Seren Sensei acknowledges this argument in the linked article. She criticizes it, but accepts it with the caveat that art that does not represent POC should be public about that fact. If you are going to create a show called Girls and only show white girls, than call that show White Girls. It is unacceptable to uncouple race from the experience of women and then act like it accurately depicts all women.
It’s very disappointing to see a director like Sofia Coppola bungle an important topic so horrendously. She is celebrated by my demographic - young, white film aficionados - as a great auteur. Great artists - even great artists who are not fully in touch with the lived experiences of POC - owe it the community to do better. To hire POC. To do a better job representing other groups, especially groups that are inextricably part of the subject matter at hand.
They do shit different in Russia.
