My Walk with God

This page will have my thoughts and feelings as I grow in my faith. I want something visible of where I can go back and look at different places in my life: the ups and the downs. Also, encouraging pictures or quotes that I like or I can relate to.

Currently, I’ve been reading this book that I got from the library and has it ever been a surprise! Usually, I go for the romance novels, this one is definitely in the genres of mystery, thriller, and supernatural. But it wasn’t the supernatural I thought... 

My mind: Ok, bring on the werewolves and faeries etc.

Book: forces of good and evil. God and demons, the forces of evil that are real, but used more metaphorically through the representation of a poisonous snake.

Woah, it has captured my attention! The turmoil that believers and non-believers go through in trying to figure out who God is and realizing they can’t do it on their own, so they call out for help. 

Personally, I’ve realized how easy it is to just call out, “Jesus! Please help me!” Reading this book has opened my eyes to how there are opportunities all the time to talk to God.

The other day was just an all-around difficult day. At work and on the way home as well. During the day I did all I could to just fight off the tears just so that I could break down in my car after work. Sometimes you just need a good cry after a stressful day at work. This quote reminds me that that whole mess is over and I can relax now and let God take over. I can ride in the back seat and let Jesus take the wheel (pun intended), It won’t be the end of the world.

This quote resonates with me because there has been one particular time that happened last year (2017) where I had to make a big decision. A decision that would hurt at the moment and one that would ultimately relieve me of further stress. I just had to be strong enough to make the decision for myself based on taking care of myself and I did it and things got better in a different way, though, sometimes I would still question myself. But seeing this quote tells me, “No, you made the right decision.”

Growth Group laughs

At my university I am in this growth group with other girl transfer students and we usually do a bible study or read a book and discuss the chapters and they have become so dear to me! So I can say for a fact that every time we gather we all bust out laughing at one thing or another at what someone says. This time I made a funny. 

I was describing how this week I had been feeling crappy and negative and God had put it on my heart to have joy even in my sufferings, so I was trying to think of a metaphor for how I was feeling.

Me: It’s like you’re taking a dumpy bath (they all burst out laughing), but then you take a cold shower to feel better and then you feel clean and then dry off well. AND THEN you go outside to sunbathe in the nude and you just feel amazing! But of course you’d be on private property so that no one could see you in you birthday suit. 

My friend who is in a marketing class was laughing so hard because she was trying to think what that would look like on a poster.   DUMPY BATHS

The Bible is not like a phone book or science textbook. It is a witness to God and channel of God’s transforming presence. It is a living book.

I really like this quote. I can’t really describe the feelings I have toward it, but, when I read these lines, they just made sense to me. It’s like sometimes I have these expectations when I am about to open the Bible and read. It’s like I’m expecting an answer to some question I have lurking in my mind, an answer that makes sense to me, or something like “a bill board” type of answer. But that’s not how it works. When I read the Bible it can become like a meditation time with God, and meditate on a verse or passage.

Christmas break almost over

You would think that with all the time I had over break I would crack open the Bible more. Somehow I lacked the motivation or more like my mind was focused elsewhere. But at least I realized that and adjusted my way of daily thinking, to just have God on my mind more. It's like 'Oh yeah! I can talk with God it doesn't always have to feel so formal like Dear God, as if I'm writing a letter, it can be more casual.'

Never go to bed a single night without knowing, even the lowest part of your soul, that no matter what this world thinks of you, you are deeply loved and deeply known by a God who wants you to know Him and love Him back.

All you have to do is knock and a door will be opened. That line can go three ways an immediate answer, an answer is not revealed to you right away (your prayer is answered with time), or the door you wanted didn't open because that wasn't God's plan. For me I witnessed the first. I had a massage today and my massage therapist and I chatted just about our lives (getting to know each other through small talk kind of). My mom has been a job coach before and my therapist really needed some help getting pointed in a new direction, so I told her my mom would definitely meet with her. She told me in her previous massage she was praying for guidance and her prayer was answered indirectly through me. I thought this is really awesome, but it doesn't stop there. I tell her how I'm a group leader at my church for the middle school girls and how I like the age group (talking about jobs) and she told me basically that this conversation was what she needed cause she has a middle school daughter that needs to get plugged in to a group. I'm glad that something more became of a simple massage. I was going there for me to relax, but God can use any situation and work through anyone to help others. I was thinking going in that this will relax me and I'm not gonna be chatty, but in the end I got some good advice as well and I feel I am one step closer in figuring out what career I want to pursue later on.😄

When unsure, I know the Bible is the way

For awhile I’ve been having a lot of questions and unsure what is right and wrong. The societies answer is different from God’s answer and I am just trying to wade through what is true, honorable, and of God and what is not. Sometimes I struggle with how I am to react to the world as a Christian. I’m at that age (going through college, yet I don’t quite feel like an adult yet) where I am searching for the answers about life and what I want to believe in, figuring out my worldview. What I do know to do when feeling lost is to pray and go to the Bible.

I've been struggling with my feelings whether I actually like him or am I feeling pushed into it by other people... Wait for the goodness of a relationship God wants for me or jump into something.. Not sure, so I'm praying about it.
