Just because that plastic is not going to the ocean, doesn't mean that banning it is a 'painfully dumb'.
1. Because that plastic does end up in landfills. Canada has enough space but landfills are bad as well and a dumb idea in general.
2. Let's not forget that the world has said no to our plastic waste. China refused to take it in and Philippines sent it back. So, if Philippines doesn't have proper garbage dump, why did Canada send their plastic to them, to dump in the ocean?
3. Less than 11 per cent of Canada’s plastics get recycled.
4. You and other pro plastic people make a case for straws and plastic bags. But what is the excuse for plastic bottles and plastic cutlery? Why clamshells?
5. You might use plastic bags as bin liners, but organic garbage as old as 50 years has been discovered in landfills. Because plastic slows biodegradation of things around.
A divorce is like an amputation: you survive it, but there’s less of you.
Margaret Atwood (via melodecious)
To say that one waits a lifetime for his soulmate to come around is a paradox. People eventually get sick of waiting, take a chance on someone, and by the art of commitment become soulmates, which takes a lifetime to perfect.
Criss Jami Venus in Arms (via melodecious)
The one thing we can never get enough of is love. And the one thing we never give enough of is love.
Henry Miller (via wordsnquotes)
That’s how you know you love someone, I guess. When you can’t experience anything without wishing the other person were there to see it, too.
Kaui Hart Hemmings, The Descendants (via wordsnquotes)
I can't give you a sure-fire formula for success, but I can give you a formula for failure: try to please everybody all the time. Herbert Bayard Swope
First love is unrequited ultimately because it’s so huge. It’s such an act of giving and it requires so much back that it can never be given back. It’s like an atom bomb…It’s all the energy of who you are and who you want to be and what you love and what you hope to be explodes. It is impossible for a single…human being to offer that back to you in a mutual way.
Stephen Fry (via wordsnquotes)
It’s so much darker when a light goes out than it would have been if it had never shone.
John Steinbeck, The Winter of Our Discontent (via wordsnquotes)
The most important things are the hardest to say because words diminish them.
Stephen King (via psych-facts)
You remember too much, my mother said to me recently. Why hold onto all that? And I said, Where can I put it down?
Anne Carson, “The Glass Essay” (via ibn-arabi)
We kill all the caterpillars, then complain there are no butterflies.
John Marsden, The Dead of Night (via thequotejournals)
Rain as much as you can, Lightening will steal your thunder.
