As a Latina, of course I’ve been extremely outraged about what’s happening to my people. I get that other people are too. HOWEVER, a lot of people didn’t start to care until a white woman was murdered by ICE. Now everyone is spamming their stories, which is great. I saw there were protests going on, which is also great, but I notice cameras out, flashing photos, and people smiling for the pictures. Quite frankly, there isn’t anything to smile about. It’s always a good idea to spread the word, but when your story starts to look like a curated slideshow of activism, it begins to feel performative.

I’d like you to ask yourselves, “Am I doing this for the right reasons?” or “Would I be able to do this without posting that I’m doing it?” If the answer is no, I urge you to try and understand why.
