There is something so funny about the way DC names cities because it’s just so…accurate to how actual people do it. The reason why it works without feeling super clunky is because people usually name cities and towns after whatever attribute they have. ‘This place has a port, let’s call it PortTown’. Central City? It’s either in mid-America or the center of its state. Metropolis? Very Urban, fast growing, biggest city around (or someone just had very high expectations of it). Smallville? It’s small.
Like this is the exact level of effort someone put into naming the real life town of Beer in England, Disappointment Lake in Ontario, or Chicken in Alaska (the settlers were too lazy to figure out the correct spelling for a local species of bird they wanted to name the town after) We are just not a creative species at naming things and that’s beautiful.
This also implies that Gotham was named because a lot of Goth people settled there. You can take that to mean in the modern sense if you wanna be whimsical, or in the sense of the Visi and Ostrogoth people from modern day Germany if you need a slightly more plausible reason. Either way, this explains why the entire city carries the same existentialism as a novel by Franz Kafka.
my daily affirmation as an author
The older I get, the more I realize that I don’t have a favourite doctor from Doctor Who. I love them all equally and I think that’s absolutely beautiful!
That moment when you finally convince your bf to watch Apothecary Diaries with you!!!!!👼🎺🎉
The most underrated TV show ever is absolutely Terra Nova! I’m sorry, there’s an anti-capitalism show about living on a parallel Earth with dinosaurs!! And not only did it get cancelled, but not a single person I’ve ever met has ever heard of it?!?!!
It just so perfectly slots into that dinosaur sized gap of 2000’s scifi shows that sits right next to Firefly. And it was produced by Steven Spielberg? How the hell was this not more popular?!?!
Sick as a dog, grad finals in two hours, hyper focusing on a game that is just ‘organize 3000 books that are all over the floor and put them on back the proper shelves’.
I have never felt more autistic in my life.
Who else can say that they’ve flipped off a google street view while escaping out the side door to drink with their cousin at their grandpas funeral?
What kind of low is it when the preacher at your grandpa’s funeral mispronounces your name when calling you up to give two separate speeches? Asking for a friend.
Official most inappropriate place I’ve read fanfic, my grandpa’s funeral. RIP gramps, you were a real one, I’ll keep wishing Buddie cannon for you!
Heated rivalry AU idea, Shakespearean play. Could be tragedy or comedy. My main idea is that there’s like a tournament to win the hand of the fairest lady in the land, Rose. Rose doesn’t want to get married, due to being in love with her friend Svetlana, so she asks her other friend, local prince Shane, to compete since he’s one of the best at jousting or whatever, and just tells him that she can’t be with who she really wants, so she’ll settle for a false marriage with him, but doesn’t say it’s Svetlana specifically so Shane just assumes it’s some peasant boy or something.
Meanwhile, runaway Prince, Ilya, arrives into town and goes to stay with his friend Svetlana where she concocts a similar scheme, to have him compete to marry Rose, and then just like fuck off after the wedding leaving Rose off the market since they are technically married.
Basically Ilya falls in love/lust with Shane right off the bat but he could never resist a competition so he just kinda keeps going with it while thinking Shane is in love with Rose. Meanwhile Shane thinks Ilya is in love with Rose and speculates if he’s the mysterious other person she’s in love with since he refuses to reveal his identity due to being on the run.
They fight, they fall in love, they give dramatically appropriate monologues about each other, there are some misunderstandings, and eventually Hayden comes back to court from lord knows where and he recognizes Ilya but doesn’t say because he isn’t sure why he’s there (maybe he thinks Ilya is there to spy or something).
Maybe even include another subplot about like Scott, a fellow knight/lord in the tourney, and Kip as like a groom or something (like the dude who takes care of his horse and makes sure he’s all armoured up and stuff).
Very key that Svetlana and Rose do not communicate on their respective plans until like the fourth act equivalent at all. Like they straight up don’t tell each other/don’t have an opportunity to tell each other.
I’m thinking it ends Ilya winning the tournament, marrying Rose and then there’s some misunderstanding where Hayden ships him back to Russia cause he thinks he’s hear to like cause trouble, and Shane has to like either go get him and true love wins the day, or if your going for tragedy, Ilya gets executed and Shane kills himself out of mourning the man he was never allowed to love. Dealers choice.
Bonus points if it’s all in old English style writing. Double bonus points if Hayden just speaks normal (if slightly formal) English the whole time and it’s just never addressed.
Rewatching firefly cause I’m bored. First time I watched it I loved it obviously, but that was before I got into DND. Now watching it back, holy shit this show is just a sci-fi/cowboy DND campaign! Mal’s a reluctant paladin of Serenity, Zoe’s the gunslinger, Simon’s the wizard, Book is a monk, Wash and Inara are both bards in colleges of eloquence and glamour respectively, Jayne is the barbarian, Kaylee is an artificer, and River is some sort of multi class rogue/druid in my opinion. I mean for christs sake they literally go on episodic quests!
I have recently come to the realization that my boyfriend is just red head Danny Motta. Does this track, yes. Do I have a type, yes. Do I know what to do with this information, no.
Winter break depression is smthg else because I am at my lowest. I’m not sleeping well no matter how tired I get, I’m barely eating because I don’t have an appetite, I have so many projects I didn’t finish before break and that I need to finish on break that I can’t be bothered with, but I am halfway through copying a build tutorial (I’m uncreative as fuck) for the shell of my first ever mega base in hardcore Minecraft, so yeah.
Nothing better than reading a Reylo fan fic next to the fully lit Christmas tree, sipping some perfect tea, while waiting for your mom to come out of her room so she can open her Christmas presents while being so far behind on packing that you only got like 3 hours to finish before your leaving to go to another province. Love the Holiday’s!
Why do moms suddenly turn into tech illiterate pre-schoolers the minute the reach the age of like 35?
Essentially we have two TV’s. The big one is in the living room, and then I have a small one in my room. The fire stick we’d been using for the big one broke a long time ago and since I was the only one who ever used it, we just never replaced it and I took the DVD player up to my tv (mostly because I both bought it, and all of our DVD’s, and I have an actual TV stand in my room with shelves to store them properly).
Now recently my mom’s been freaking out over the fact that the TV isn’t working, despite the fact that I’ve told her several times that it hasn’t for a while. I don’t know why, she has never used it before. Now granted I am self taught, but I’m the relative ‘tech expert’ in the family due to a combination of aggressive googling and pressing buttons until it works.
So naturally, my mother decided to, without asking me what would work for that TV, buy a second hand DVD player. You’d think it would be fine, except not only does that TV not have a remote, but she didn’t check if the player came with a remote before buying it. The thing doesn’t even have buttons on the front, so she can’t use it.
Not only that, it isn’t compatible with our TV, since it in order to get it working it needs to plugged in not only to HDMI and the outlet, but some other thing that our TV straight up does not have (I checked the back over inch by inch, there are no holes that would fit that plug shape). She basically spent like $150 on a shiny brick, and now she won’t even admit that it doesn’t work, and refuses to ask the people she bought it from if she can return it, because why would she. That would be easy.
Anyway, this whole situation has left me wondering, because my mom lived fully on her own in the 2000’s. She had a DVD player and cable back then, she knows how they work because she had to literally set them up herself in her apartment, assumedly multiple time. Or she should. If anything this is exactly her area of tech expertise, and yet she can’t even fathom the idea that two pieces of tech are incompatible, and she calls me every time she gets locked out of her email or Amazon account.
To put it bluntly, when exactly is it that parents become completely tech illiterate, and how can I like reverse it or something, cause this is getting old and I don’t want to be 40 fielding calls from my mom all day about how to wire transfer a Nigerian prince all her money.
Being 18 in highschool is so fucking weird, because what do you mean it’s 1AM and I’m actively writing a suicide note to process my emotions cause a random article on google told me it would be therapeutic 8 years ago, (which honestly doesn’t sound healthy, but I’m going for it) instead of studying for my Bio quiz tommorow because I had a full on screaming match with my mom on the phone while she’s away dog sitting for my aunt.
Lasted about about 2.5 hours, specifically during supper time about how I’m not mature enough to live on my own since I wanted to hang out with my boyfriend for a few hours after school while she’s still away tommorow (because I’m probably gonna get knocked up despite my last doctors appointment basically telling me I’m infertile and the very small and insignificant fact that I’m fully out to her as both a fucking virgin and Ace!) and ate left over Mac & Cheese instead of making something new for dinner (I’m just being self destructive by not eating enough, once again despite having been diagnosed with ARFID when I was about 5 and actually being really proud of convincing myself to eat day old anything).
Meanwhile said boyfriend is texting me Hatsune Miku memes and despite not being into that at all it is fully reminding me why I love him so much.
But hey, after checking my email I got into college, but my Hazbin Hotel Vox plush has a shipping delay and I’m genuinely more upset about that than I am excited about the college bit, and I’m just now realizing, while staring at it hanging on my closet door, that I hate the $800 final sale prom dress I payed for myself.
At least that article was spot on. I’ve been bawling for like 20 minutes now, and after doing a bit of research I’m starting to genuinely wonder if I might be mildly Bipolar.
