Toy Story 3

After playing Toy Story 2, I decided to replay some of Toy Story 3 on my Steam Deck. I played the Wii version a lot as a kid.

It's pretty fun, I think I like Toy Story 2 more, but I still had a fun time. I played up to the Buzz Lightyear level where you fight Zurg and then went and played most of the Toy Box.

I was going to complete it, but then I learned that the PC version of the game is based off of the Wii version, meaning the graphics aren't as good and the Toy Box is missing some content. I've since gotten the game on Xbox 360 and plan to play through that version at some point.

I hope that with the Xbox 360 recompilation stuff from this year that the Xbox 360 version of Toy Story 3 eventually becomes easily playable on PC.

Toy Story Racer

Toy Story Racer is the first kart racer I played! It's a fun little kart racer where you play as the toys in RC cars racing around locations from Toy Story. It's fun, but the single player challenges can be quite challenging.

The game is unique in that the kart controls, like actual RC cars, feeling very light and quickly turning. It takes some adjustment after playing other kart racers like Mario Kart.

I used to play it all the time with my brother until we got Mario Kart Wii and other racing games. After that, we just didn't play it as much due to all other choices being available.

The game also has a really good soundtrack!

Toy Story 2

I didn't own Toy Story 2 on PS1 as a kid, but I did borrow it from my cousins a couple of times. I remember enjoying it a lot, although I never got past the Slime Time Boss.

I got reminded of the game last July when The Super Gaming Brothers played through it, so after watching the first episode, I decided to play through the game myself.

Toy Story 2

Woody has been kidnapped by a greedy toy collector! He needs to be rescued! Buzz Lightyear and their friends are on the rescue to bring Wood

It's a pretty fun Mario 64 style platformer, but you're Buzz Lightyear and have a laser. It's a great game, and I'm glad to have finally played through it!

Stitch Experiment 626 is one of my first video games that I played countless times. I went back and started replaying it back in August 2023 and was on and off with it until I finally finished it in July of 2024. I've been coming back to it occasionally since to chip away at 100% on it.

I never finished the game as a kid, getting stuck on the second boss after World 3, but I still replayed the first half of the game a lot. It was cool to finally see the rest of the game and see what was out of my reach as a kid.

The game gets quite challenging, I don't think young me would have finished even if I had gotten past the second boss.

It's a bit clunky to go back to since the camera is spring look style (the game is from 2002) but after you adjust to using the camera lock and just glancing around with camera it can play pretty well.

You get a grapple gun on some levels, which is very fun and lets you swing around like Spider-Man.

There's a jetpack too that also suffers from the clunky control scheme.

The way they work is that you have to fly through a set of rings to refuel and clear the set before the timer runs out, or you respawn at the last checkpoint. That timer ends after you clear a set. The rings are usually mandatory to be able to fly through the level, or you'll probably run out of fuel.

I was replaying one of the jetpack levels yesterday, as I thought about how they could have made it play better.

I think they should have made those optional and rewarded you with DNA (the main collectible) for completing them. Since they do refuel you, they could have made refueling rings that are a different color and aren't part of a set. That way, you could skip the ring sets to finish the level without getting stuck on them. The way it is, those levels just feel kinda clunky.

Also, yes, I know I'm suggesting how to improve gameplay problems from a clunky platformer that was released back in 2002. I was just brainstorming while playing and felt like sharing.

Squid bots offer extra collectibles for hidden unlockable movie clips. Their challenges are tough but rewarding to complete.
