every day i think about the fact that he tried to 4d chess manipulate jack, the guy who is notorious for always needing something to fix, to remove his tumor when he could have just walked into that camp on the first day and asked him and he probably would have said yes. and the only explanation i can come up with for why he thought this was the better option is that benjamin linus does not believe anyone would genuinely help him without an ulterior motive and that's just sad.
