I was told at 13 (13!!!!!) that I likely would never be able to carry a pregnancy to term without serious complications and/or death. I asked what my options were and they put me on birth control.
At 18 I asked about more permanent options. After reviewing my medical history and the diagnosis, I had four separate doctors tell me that I was âtoo youngâ to make those kinds of decisions. But they were willing to put me on birth control that quit working when mixed with other meds I was on.
âWhat if you want kids later!â They exclaimed, pointing out that 18 is âearly to make such a big decision.â
When I got married at 21, I asked again, presented the same evidence and diagnosis and concerns. I said I didnât want to put me or my spouse through the definite likelihood of getting an abortion down the line. I was turned down flat. âBut youâre so young. You might change your mind. What if your husband wants kids?â
Birth control makes me crazy. Like. Literally crazy. I have tried them again and again, and they donât mix well with me or other meds I have to take. Two abortions later, I still havenât found a doctor willing to sterilize me before Iâm either 40 or have had a kid.
This has always been about choice and autonomy, and the Supreme Court just told women they donât care if we have either one.
LGBTQ+ Pride in New York City, 1994
For the 25th anniversary of the Stonewall Riots in 1994, flag creator Gilbert Baker was commissioned to make the worldâs largest flag. The flag took months of planning and work done by teams of volunteers. The flag utilized the basic six colors of the rainbow and measured thirty feet wide by a mile long.
being fat isnt good because itâs âmore of you to loveâ or âfluffierâ or âmore cushion for the pushinââ being fat is good because itâs a way your body can be. you donât have to make up arbitrary reasons for a body to be good when housing a person automatically makes it good
shout-out to the person i overheard today rushing into an antiques shop to ask, very urgently, 'do you have any silver crosses?'. wishing you well in your fight against the creatures of darkness, friend
