What if oldest dream behind the wall was Tls123?
“We’ll still stick together from now on too, so why do you sound so grimly determined? Don’t worry. No matter what kind of a monster is waiting for us, I’ll finish it off.”
I gently smiled. Meanwhile, the subway was slowing down even further.
My reflection could be seen in the black window of the exit door. There was a splatter of blood on my cheek reflected on the glass. I wiped it off my face. And then, my mood cooled down.
⸢The blood was really on my cheek, and not on the window.⸥
“Doors are opening!”
Along with Lee Hyunsung’s cry, everyone got ready to fight.
“....Ng?”
However, contrary to everyone’s nervousness, what greeted us was a rather empty subway platform. Sure, there were a few people walking around in the surroundings, but none of them paid us much attention.
“What’s this, there’s no....”
Jung Heewon muttered that out, and as we stepped onto the platform, I was overcome with an ominous foreboding. There it was, the unfamiliar sense of reality touching my feet. Faint sparks, along with every single one of my Fables, were pointing in a certain direction.
⸢Someone was sitting on the subway’s bench.⸥
Black athletic wear as if its wearer had just gone out for a run. A beautiful woman was slouched on the bench, unflinching in her sleep even with the bustle of the crowd around her. The short crop of her hair lightly caressed her cheeks.
As the pulsing migraine assaulted me, I somehow managed to lift my unmoving feet.
⸢Kim Dokja made a promise. To end the culprit who made this world. No matter what that existence was.⸥
There were deep bags under the woman’s eyes. It was as if she hadn’t slept properly in years.
⸢Time isn’t moving because not reading and not imagining.⸥
I did think that all of this could be a dream, a lie. I even believed that this was a dream the evil <Star Stream> had created.
I even believed that I could have been the monster waiting past that wall.
But this person, I didn’t expect her to be the one past the full stop. To have met a writer at the place where the creator of a universe of stories resides…
⸢Y ou we re al rea dy ex pec ting this di dn’t you Kim Dok Ja.⸥
Before any story could be described, before it could be read, it had to exist in one person’s dream first.
The author’s.
The Most Ancient Dream. The world’s most omniscient yet powerless god.
“I… am Tls123?”
Han Sooyoung was the first to speak. Her eyes were trembling.
All of my senses were gnawing at me; they said that that woman was the culprit behind all these scenarios.
It was the same for my companions.
I thought I heard something fall to the floor, and I saw Jung Heewon’s sword rolling around on the ground.
“Ah, ah....”
She was now looking at her. She was looking at the woman, then back at Han Sooyoung. Her eyes were filling up with despair.
As if she couldn’t believe this. As if she’d prefer that this whole thing turned out to be a lie.
[The promise with the ‘Secretive Plotter’ is activating.]
I opened my mouth only to close it several times. Maybe, this might be my punishment.
For daring to dream of a perfect ending in which all of us survived. To have come this far, and shed blood for such a hope.
It was as if the universe was telling me there was no such thing.
The Star Stream wasn’t like that. This was a universe of sacrifices and salvation too, was a paid service.
[You have promised to destroy <Star Stream>.]
[<Star Stream> will not be destroyed unless the ‘Most Ancient Dream’ is ended.]
I now stared at the woman.
The woman who gave me every reason to survive in this ruined world.
[Please end the ‘Most Ancient Dream’.]
+++
Sparks overflowed above my Incarnation Body. My heart was madly pounding away. My head faltered, and I somehow managed to suck in several deep breaths.
[The 4th Wall] was right. Maybe, I already knew.
There were simply too many hints.
⸢I was far too lucky in this world, and⸥
⸢Everything in this world seemed to be geared towards my convenience, and⸥
⸢At times, this world even felt sloppy.⸥
If all of these were the result of the guiding hand of a writer who so desperately wished for our survival…
⸢The genesis of all the world-lines, the original world-line.⸥
I raised my head back up, then stepped forward to lift ‘that’ Han Sooyoung into my arms. She felt so light. This small body carried the weight of every sin in the world.
The world written just for me.
An anguished cry came from the rear.
“Sooyoung-ssi, calm down!”
“You bastard! Let me go!”
It was a voice far more devastated than I have ever heard from her. Tears were pouring from her eyes as Jung Heewon and Lee Hyunsung held her by her arms. A dagger was gripped tightly onto one hand while [Black Flames] were bursting from the other.
“That bitch, why the hell would I write a story like this!?”
She continued to thrash about, and even the kids held onto her legs to keep her from taking another step forward to do something foolish. The entire nebula worked together to suppress her, their status raging forth as Han Sooyoung did everything she could to break free of the restraint.
“Something this fucked up—“ Han Sooyoung snarled. “If I had to write a story for this purpose, to write a novel with these… Shit developments…!!“
Han Sooyoung choked on her own tears as she continued to try to force her way past our companions.
“Han Sooyoung.”
It was Yoo Junghyuk who stepped in between them. The one who had lived this tragedy for thousands of lives.
“It has been difficult."
He reduced his tragedies to a mere few words.
“But it’s over now.”
⸢His forgiveness was offered in this manner. ⸥
“Shut up!!”
⸢It only served to break her.⸥
“Shut up, shut up, shut up!!”
Yoo Junghyuk opened his mouth as if to respond, then suddenly doubled over in a coughing fit.
Thick fog came in from somewhere, and I picked up on the ominous power of Chaos. Yoo Junghyuk’s expression as he held the blade became weird.
“Y-you bastard....”
As he staggered about, the pitch-black Fable leaked out from his mouth. That Fable gurgled out and travelled down his chin, hit the floor, and finally, formed the silhouette of a person.
The blade of the [Heaven Shaking Sword] gleamed between the jet-black coat; a man who only lived for this moment was standing there now.
⸢The Secretive Plotter.⸥
The being who had even forgotten about his real name after experiencing an enedless tragedy even past the last sentence of his story. The man who lived only for the purpose of revenge was here.
⸢No human can control every type of imagination.⸥
Just how many universes were born and broken in her mind? Just how many of her imagined tragedies were inherited by just one person?
⸢And that’s why the most ideal person to end this dream had already been determined.⸥
It was the world’s most fair revenge.
So why did I keep holding onto Han Sooyoung this tightly?
[[ It was you. ]]
The Secretive Plotter’s [Heaven Shaking Sword] continued to wander in the air. That sword was now pointed towards its creator.
[[ The being that dreamt and perpetuated every tragedy in all the worldlines. ]]
I only made it this far because of those tragedies she wrote.
It was the story that I loved more than anything. The story I was indebted to.
[[ Kim Dokja. You must end the Most Ancient Dream. ]]
Every letter here was chosen by her hands. By bearing all of these sins, she brought us to this moment.
It was thanks to Han Sooyoung that I managed to survive.
And now it was time to repay my debt.
“Did you forget?”
[‘Demon King’ transformation is activating!]
[‘Archangel’ transformation is activating!]
I smiled gently and with one hand raised my [Unbreakable Faith]. I pulled the sleeping Han Sooyoung closer in the other.
“I didn’t promise to kill people.”
In this place far beyond our full stop, our swords were drawn.
A new story had begun.
han sooyoung looked at that little boy in his hospital bed and realised that absolutely no one else in the world was going to save him. she realised that there was exactly one thing that would stop him from ending up in that bed again and again until it stuck and she refreshed the webnovel page over and over until she realised no one else was going to do it. how did it feel looking down at kim dokja and knowing that the novel that would save his life would take the next 13 years of her life, and doom billions in the process, and still decide to start writing it. to understand that you already had, and always would. han sooyoung looked down at kim dokja and decided to save him in the only way she knew how - just like when kim dokja typed 'ways to survive' into that search bar he was searching for salvation the only way he knew how. and some of it was fate dragging the two of them together, that meeting of author and reader, the beginning of an endless universe on a dinky hospital computer. and some of it was a choice, a choice to try again, and a choice made by han sooyoung to tie themselves irrevocably to each other in the hopes kim dokja might just survive it. anyway.
(not really) small YOOHANKIM moments (maybe joongdok, doksoo, yoohan too):
NOVEL SPOILER!
The straight couples I find interesting the most are the ones that are so doomed by the narrative while they don't give a fuck about all this doom, they are gonna take matters into their own hands, but it's not working, and they love, love, love, and there's no imaginable happy ending in sight, they can't help but be cheerful about the few happy memories they have at all. Because if they don't treasure this little happiness, then what's the point. What was all it for. It was all they had, it's all they are going to have. They don't have long together, everything is unstable, they never know when they're going to part, actually, they just know they might be separated any time and never see each other again. And the yearning. And the lingering. Just one more second with you, and one more, and one more, is all I could ask for. I'd trade the world to see you laugh by my side a little longer. I wish we had more time to be happy together. Something I can't fight is going to separate us any time and I'm scared to lose you and even if I don't win, I just want a little more time to be in heaven with you. Heaven is a place on earth with you. Even if you don't love me back, I want to see you happy and well. You may never recognize my efforts. Oh, you're hopelessly fighting the narrative too. It's ok if you never hear of my sacrifice. "Did you eat well? Did you sleep well?" The devotion. The platonic touches that mean everything and yet they don't realize how much it will become a core memory later on. Deep down I wish we could just be together and happy, but if that's not possible I'll settle for seeing you live the life you deserve. I wish I could be the one to give everything good in this world, but if I can't, I'll give you a happier ending instead, and I'll see you off to all the other people that deeply love you. Yes, I'm jealous. Yes, I love you even when I can't show it. Yes, I'm bad at showing it. I can't put it well in words, but look at all the moments we spent together and you'll know why and how much I adore you.
Kim Dokja wished Han Sooyoung would always be the ‘Han Sooyoung’ he knew, and she killed off every memory, every part of herself, that didn’t include him in it.
That was her in Kaixenix. I wonder if he ever realized Han Sooyoung felt the same way about him…
Thinking about the epilogue of ORV.
I was originally feeling kind of unsure about how everyone just kind of accepted 49% KDJ at the end of everything. Like, knowing everything they all went through, I don't blame them for their choice or their belief. They all had their reasons and I'm not taking that autonomy away from them. But something I was just thinking about as I was reading the end of ORV is what if the fact that all of the "characters" accepted everything was because they were characters? Even YSA was a "character" by the end of the story. The only ones who weren't were HSY and YJH, and these are the ones we see feel discontent with this ending. (Again, this is putting aside their characterizations and reasons). It makes me wonder if the characters COULDN'T want/dream of anything more because they were within the strains of KDJ's new dream. They were characters in his mind, so they followed by the rules he set in place. Only the ones who were no longer characters/out of KDJ's control could think outside of those laws that he had subconsciously put into place.
We know that YJH has considered himself to be the only "real" person in that world for a long time (as seen as early as the Theatre Dungeon), but we get confirmed information that as of 1864!YJH that he is not a character. And up through the end, HSY was never a character in KDJ's mind. So, he couldn't enforce anything on them. Alternatively, HSY broke YJH from the bit of control KDJ had over him as the OD because 1. she's his author and 2. I think that in order to change the narrative a person who is not a "character" is needed. That's why the1863!HSY could change WoS, and that's why KDJ could do it as well. HSY was needed to affect the change in their companions. They would've only moved because she, a not-character, made the decision to change the story.
Inspired by my previous reblog about YJH's priest collar. Guys, have you ever thought why YJH waited for KDJ on the bridge for exact 3 days? I mean it's the "psychopath regressor" YJH we're talking about who was rushing through the scenarios as soon as they started destroying almost everything on his way. And that YJH waiting for some random annoying dude who claims to be a prophet and whom he dropped into the mouth of a sea creature with zero hesitation cuz he might become a threat in future...? Since Star Stream is a world of stories could it be a reference to Jonah from the Book of Jonah (old testament of the Bible)...? Jonah was a prophet and was thrown into the mouth of a giant fish at HIS request and came out of its stomach after 3 days and 3 nights. So after 3 days YJH assumes KDJ's dead and moves on and by coming out on the 4th day KDJ proves that he's not actually a prophet...?
i am always ready and willing to rag on orv character designs (i love them all so much and think the artists are incredibly talented. why does yoo jonghyuk have a titty belt) but one thing i love so much is yoo jonghyuk having a priests collar. its a part of character design that makes you go 'lmao thats so weird why did they draw him like that. rule of cool i guess' and then you reach the end of the novel and realise all this time yoo jonghyuk has been servant of the most powerful being in all existence and he has to go on a pilgrimage to spread the word of the author of existence to all other universes. and its like. oh. no he is literally a priest. holy shit. incredible character designactually. we knew his role from the beginning.
I once came across a theory on reddit that the Hangul used in the Murim arc for calling YJH can mean both a 'disciple' (in Murim terms) and a 'priest' unless the Hanza is mentioned, since there are many homophones. Like how Hangul for KDJ means 'reader' but the Hanza can mean both 'alone' and 'reader' (and his mf dad chose alone). But, SnS most of the time don't mention the Hanza so Blackbox might've mistaken that Murim term as 'priest' and gave him a priest collar, since the art before Blackbox didn't have any priest collar. And SnS also maybe found it kinda cool (and appropriate) so they decided to keep it...?
It's just a theory tho. Anyways, I totally agree that YJH is very much priest-coded. HSY the creator mother goddess, KDJ as the ultimate truth/pure consciousness/the sacrificing savior (I think I just merged different schools of theologies lol) aaaand YJH as the holy messanger! The Holy Trinity!!
PLEASE CAN WE TALK ABOUT THIS MORE. kim dokja not only lied to his superiors about an incident where he could have been fired if he found out, he moved the security cameras for her!!! number on kim dokja why do you know how to do that number two kim dokja you filthy liar you claim to be so disconnected from the world around you, you claim to have no friends and no life, you claim to live in a completely different genre from yoo sangah but you still turned away the security cameras for her!! because you liked her and because you thought what she was doing was right and the connections were always there if only you noticed them!! kim dokja your genre was never that different from yoo sangahs. the wall was never insurmountable. you were both always right there!!!!!
i forgot that in the middle of the great war between saints and demons before persephone and hades actually give kim dokja any help they first pester him about when hes gonna start dating even to the point of projecting holograms of his companions and his most emotional moments like 'aww omg you and han sooyoung would be such a cute couple look at her comforting you here' and kim dokja is like MOOOOOMMMM DAAAAAAADDD STOOOOOOOP OMG. meanwhile his companions are risking life and limb on the battlefield for him and people are DYING.
absolutely obsessed with early jongdook bc yjh is really trying to do the whole brooding protagonist thing “nobody understands what i’m going through and i have the burden of saving the world etc etc)” and then this guy (clown) bursts on to the scene, calls you a bitch to your face, tells you he can predict the future and basically turns your world upside down while stealing your name and he’s just like ???? ???? ???? and then it turns out the guy is even more messed up than you the tortured protagonist and he’s like damn it you bastard you can’t die i’m attached now you have changed me irreparably
i've talked before about how kim dokja struggles to form a relationship with yoo sangah because he sees her as a 'protaganist' figure, slotting her into a role as 'the heroine' which does not fit her but does handily prevent him from having to (gasp) form a connection! and i think han sooyoung initially does the same thing and thats part of why yoo sangah gets so much on her nerves. han sooyoung is the only other character who seems to see the world as tropes and cliches just as much as kim dokja does, and she assigns herself the role of villain and yoo sangah the role of hero and does the subsequent antagonizing expected of such a dynamic. but i really don't think its something yoo sangah is interested in entertaining - she doesn't like han sooyoung initially due to all the violent murder she does, but it's not at all based in this good vs evil struggle that han sooyoung is trying to create. kim dokja didn't really get to see all of yoo sangah until he let her out of that heroine role - similarly, i wish we got to see the moment yoo sangah escaped that role in han sooyoung's eyes.
i think theres something to be said about the contrast between watching as a kindness vs as a cruelty in orv. sometimes having someone just watch you, particularly your pain and suffering, and acknowledge it is depicted as a salvation, vs when it's depicted as an awful violation. kim dokja as a kid was ignored to the point of brutal negligence. he would have been much better off if just one person acknowledged his suffering - no one did. at the same time, his past trauma was always in focus, with reporters hounding him constantly - an acknowledgement of suffering he couldnt escape but desperately wanted to. a type of pain that needed to be witnessed, and a type of pain that desperately needed to be hidden from public view. watching as a salvation vs watching as a violation. how many stories would be saved if there was just one person reading them vs how many stories should never have been read at all.
SingSong I know what you did there you can't escape my eyes.
[ID: Image one is an excerpt from Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint which reads:
Han Su-Yeong abruptly opened her lips to speak. "It's snowing."
She was right; bits of snowflakes were descending from the sky.
Originally, this particular world didn't have any snow. Yet, it was doing precisely that.
Image two is an excerpt from an article with the header "True Love" that says:
Notably, South Korea seems to be a pretty romantic country, and this custom proves it.
There is a superstition that if you witness the first snowfall with the person you like, true love will blossom between both and it will be long-lasting. Because of this, a lot of couples also promise to meet each other at certain place to enjoy the first snowfall and hope for their love to be eternal. End ID]
MAN the almost constant reinforcement of stories as food, and then yoo joonghyuk being such a good cook and han sooyung giving everyone the lemon candies, i.e. providing food/stories as protagonist and writer. The thematic imagery in orv is so strong and so consistent I live for this sort of thing.
*Kim Dokja voice*
Hey um, I might need your help finding hidden pieces. 🥺👉👈
(Ignore the fact that I’m overpowered for this.) It’s true I need your help. I never lie. 🤓 📲
Will you spend a few days camping with me? It’s just going to be you and me. None of my companions.
Totally for the scenario of course.
I, I bought a sports car? 🥺👉👈 Do you think I’m cool? Do you want to go for a ride?
