For the time it takes to make them + skill + materials it's gonna be 30$ per silly little thing. But also shipping costs 12$ for reasons outside my control so it's actually 42$ now. Sorry. I'm presenting a tiny crocheted bird to you. Putting it into the palm of your hand. This can be yours. For what seems like too much money but I promise it isn't. We've all just really lost sight of fiber arts' value with industrialization and outsourced sweatshop labor etc. This is actually the minimum I could ask for without fucking myself. I don't like what this implies about mass produced items either. It's really horrific. You can get an ethically sourced 42$ tiny crocheted bird though

life has been so hard since the end of last year that I've had no time to create and post stuffs on here, but I hope when things unfold and decisions are made, I would finally be free to focus on things I know deep down that I always want to do

maybe all these uncertainties and burdens are also opportunities that encourage me to leave an environment that has been killing me inside

I kind of ended 2023 and began the new year on the same note with this messenger bag, which I had dreamed of making and actually attempted to make (while crying!!) for so long.
For the first time (almost!) I decided to make my own thing rather than strictly follow any designs or tutorials I found on the internet. And I'm so happy that I finished it all on the first day of the new year!!!
Making things for yourself is the best feeling in the world. You know exactly what you want and don't have to second-guess yourself or make compromises fearing people might not find this practical or adding that might be too silly.
I felt so free and happy creating a bag from my own vision, and for me only, just as Mitski, a philosopher, has said MY LOVE MINE ALL MINE, and here is the bag I've always wanted:

I just think that if you show someone something you've made and their first reaction is to ask if you're going to sell it, you should be allowed to kill that person
Like, the thing is, I do sell stuff I make! All time time, I've been Selling Crafts Online literally for over a decade, I'm pretty much always open to commissions of things I've made previously. But when you're like 'hey I made something!' and the response is 'you should sell it!' it's not the compliment people think it is, it's basically saying you only see craft and art as an undervalued, mass produced item for sale
I think people are too normal about just how much goes into making things.
I've gone through nearly sixty-six yards of yarn on my project so far. If I stacked myself up, it would take thirty-five mes just to equal that. And that's only after ribbing and two and a half rows of normal single crochet on a project that will be done in five pieces.
There is so much that goes into art. There are so many hours, material, blood, sweat, and tears that go into even the most simple of projects. Once you start realizing this, you start to truly appreciate everything about art.
sooooooo I finally made a wallet for myself based on this super helpful tutorial (her channel has taught me a lot and her voice is so soothing!), just changed the flower into pikachu (incase no one recognized what the hell is that) cause mind you I'm a pika enthusiast
anyway, I think it's not 100% perfect, like the zipper part was so uneven (?) maybe because I pulled too hard, and stupid me got wrong side of the fabric (that's why it turned out 2 different shades) but I kinda like it that way, adding some forest vibe and looking FUN (hopefully)
the card part is not as smooth as I would like it to be either and I'm too tired to fix it, AND THE BINDING omg hand binding curved corner is so fucking hard I need to practice more

I suppose most of troubles I got when quilting came from myself not learning things in any specific order, as I was always simply diving headfirst into whatever I felt like sewing at the time then picking up certain techniques and freestyling if I made silly mistakes.
I was doing it even before I began to take up quilting seriously (about a year ago), possibly because I was born to a professional tailor. I had grown up watching my mom sew and had intuitively picked up some basic hand sewing. That helps me a lot when I'm watching thousands of tutorials on youtube, like sometimes I immediately get what they're doing without having to look too hard into explanations, so I can just fast forward to parts I'm not familiar with. Even so, there is a lot to learn and, more importantly, unlearn. I'm still making silly mistakes, but I'm having lot of FUN.
Doing all this also makes me realize what an ARTIST my mom is and how I have taken her talent for granted my whole life.
Space is a doubt: I have constantly to mark it, to designate it. It's never mine, never given to me, I have to conquer it.

như ở túi này thì đã học được bài học đắt giá về khâu patchwork hình vuông và chần sao cho vuông vức thẳng thớm, dù đã chữa cháy được nhưng nhìn lại vẫn thật khó chịu vì it could have been done better /sigh/
