markedmckinnon:
She nodded her head in agreement with the words knowing just how right Peter likely was. “And let’s be honest, that minor Ministry suit probably makes more than you and I combined.” A light snort leaves Marlene as she says it, the truth behind her words leaving a slightly bitter aftertaste in her mouth. “I have full intentions of drinking this night away if it continues this way.” And though she’d already filled out her information she elects to leave that small bit of information out, there’s no sense in admitting that she had once again jumped when her mother told her to.
“I should warn you, off the record as I don’t need the Prophet getting wind of this.” She says the words merely out of habit, knowing that she can trust Peter with the information. “My boss has said that the Minister is ready to send us after people who aren’t filling out their information. They’ve got names already but they need the details in order to “properly fill in the blanks to serve the community.” Her last sentence is spoken in a mocking tone to show just how she feels about the words that her boss is trying to force down their throats.

“For the last time, McKinnon, I don’t have a record for you to be on. Unless you want me to snap a few glamour shots.” Peter rolled his eyes, but there was a warm smirk on his lips. It faded a bit as he listened. It was one thing to read the threat on the invitations. It was quite another to get confirmation that they intended to act on those threats. “Well, then maybe they shouldn’t put as many blanks to fill in. Especially when not everyone can fill in every blank.”
He lifted his camera to gaze down the street, just fiddling with settings to give himself a moment to think. “Hm. Maybe I should have just made up some bloke for the father side of the form. Now they’re going to be on me and my mum’s backs. Which is annoying.”

Where most were losing their minds, undecided on if they were going to fill out their census information, Rodolphus had likely been one of the first in line to do so. This whole event was something that he believed would be for the better of the wizarding world, this information could help them make the best decisions regarding their people. At the notion that this wasn’t one of the best decision to be made by the minister Rodolphus turned his head, eyes slightly narrowed as he regarded the person beside him.
“It’s not mental. This is an opportunity to know who your neighbor is, though I’ve heard that the Minister has no intentions of making this public knowledge. It will be just something filed away. Do you not believe that?” It was posed as a question but he already knew that anyone who did believe that was simply a fool.

Peter blinked, re-evaluating his words quickly. It was easy to forget that things like this wouldn’t be done if someone wasn’t in favor of them. A single scan of the man next to him told him this was just the sort of person who would. Everything about him screamed pureblood of the worst kind. He took another sip of his butterbeer as he considered how to respond. “Hm. Perhaps I’m just a private person, but I’ve never personally felt the urge to ask my neighbors’ mothers’ maiden names.” He huffed a soft chuckle, hoping it would diffuse some of the tension. He considered getting up and moving elsewhere, but now he was curious.
“I actually don’t believe we’ve met. Peter Pettigrew, Daily Prophet.” He offered a hand to shake. “You’re not on the record, don’t worry. I’m not a reporter, just a photographer. Do you really think the Ministry would go to all this effort just to put papers in a cupboard somewhere?”

though he didn’t work for the Ministry, Remus had been informed by the Institute that he was expected to participate in their census. They received donations from most of the wealthy families, and more than that, they got funding through the Ministry. So while he wasn’t technically an employee through them, he was adjacent enough that he knew what was expected of him. Remus, more than anything else, hated that every checked box he made felt like another strike against him. Halfblood - minus one. Blacklisted bastard wizard father - minus one. Werewolf - minus 100.
so as soon as he finished he steered clear of the games, not feeling much like celebrating, and went looking for any of the boys. He reckoned they had to be around here somewhere, and his suspicion was confirmed when he saw Peter sitting at the bar. Remus weaved through people, not stopping until he was taking up a seat right next to one of his best friends. ‘ mental is a good word for it. I can’t imagine anything good coming of this, ‘ he agreed. Ordering his own butterbeer, Remus nudged Peter’s arm gently, ‘ are you okay? ‘ he asked.
» ──────» ᘛ⁐̤ᕐᐶ «────── «
Peter clicked his tongue. Remus was exactly right, and braver than him to say it out loud. “The person helping me with my paperwork nearly flipped their shit that I had to leave half the form blank. I think they would’ve rather me tell them my mum dumped my father’s body in the Thames than that I have no clue who he is. I can’t imagine you fared much better, eh Moony?” He winked and then took a sip from his drink.
He nudged back with his shoulder, rolling his eyes. “Oh, I’m just brilliant. I love when my bosses send me to events like this with orders to get lots of crowd shots. You ever seen any crowd shots in the paper? Because I certainly haven’t.” Peter rolled his eyes. “I’d clear out James’ vault to find out who they’re passing it onto.”
who: marlene mckinnon & open where: Hogsmeade when: During the Census event
She hesitates a moment at the entrance before electing to maker her way into the village, finding that some of her happiness moments here are now overshadowed by a darkness. It doesn’t matter, this is a Ministry mandated event and something that her mother would want her at as well. For this reason, she steps forward into the entrance despite everything in her insisting that she just go home. Marlene keeps her lips closed and instead makes her way around, eyes taking in everything before stopping close to the edge, almost away from just about everyone. Her head turns to the person near here, clearly going out of their way to avoid the chaos just as she had. “I wonder who thought a census was a reason for a party…”
Peter was struggling to get any good pictures now that the village was becoming more crowded. He’d only ever seen it this crowded on Valentine’s Day, when it seemed like every student in Hogwarts had the same idea for a date. But still, his camera was around his neck, knowing that his editors would want to scour his pictures for anyone who didn’t show. Being used that way actually made him sick to his stomach, but he knew very well that it was too useful to the Order to have a man inside the paper to risk his job.
So he stepped to the edge of the crowd, scanning through the pictures he already had on the small screen of the camera. He hummed when he heard a voice. It quickly turned to a smirk as he registered it as Marlene. “Some minor Ministry suit, no doubt. Someone who thinks we’ll drink and dance our way into ignoring the census. I might be trying to do just that if I wasn’t on the clock. But how are you doing, Marls?”
who: open where: hogsmeade when: during the census
Peter was there long before the “party” started. He wasn’t subtle about the pictures he was snapping for the Prophet of the census workers. They didn’t seem to be subtle about not caring. The whole thing made him highly suspicious. As people started arriving, he snapped a few more shots of prominent society members before making his way to the table to fill out the damned paperwork. His his worst suspicions were all but confirmed. Having to put his deadname as a known alias was bad enough, but the way the census worker pushed him to fill out the portion about his father, to put in any little detail his mother might have ever even hinted at, left him shaken.
He knew he should be photographing the games starting up at the different tables, but first he needed his hands to stop shaking. He went to the bar and opened his mouth to order an ale, only to realize he was technically on the clock. There were too many eyes who would report him drinking. He cursed under his breath and ordered a butterbeer instead. “This is all...a bit mental, isn’t it?” He glanced to the person next to him and chuckled.
Voldemort calling Peter Pettigrew “Wormtail” is such a dark and creepy detail that’s so often overlooked.
He uses Peter’s childhood nickname given to him by his best friends, two of whom Voldemort himself killed. I don’t know if he does it as a manipulative way to get Peter to see him as a replacement companion or as a cruel reminder of the lives Peter is responsible for destroying, but no matter what, it is such a dark warping of something that used to represent friendship, loyalty, and sacrifice for loved ones, as Peter had originally become “Wormtail” to help one of his best friends with his werewolf transformations.
Also, as far as I can remember, Voldemort doesn’t call anyone else by their nickname. Just Peter.

harry potter character aesthetics ~ (30/?)
Peter Pettigrew - 1960
‘If you made a better rat than a human, it’s not much to boast about, Peter.’
Many of the political attacks on trans people—whether it is a mandate that bathroom use be determined by birth sex, a blanket ban on medical interventions for trans kids or the suggestion that trans men are simply wayward women beguiled by male privilege—carry the same subtext: that trans people are mistaken about who they are. “We know who we are,” Page says. “People cling to these firm ideas [about gender] because it makes people feel safe. But if we could just celebrate all the wonderful complexities of people, the world would be such a better place.”
Page was attracted to the role of Vanya in The Umbrella Academy because—in the first season, released in 2019—Vanya is crushed by self-loathing, believing herself to be the only ordinary sibling in an extraordinary family. The character can barely summon the courage to move through the world. “I related to how much Vanya was closed off,” Page says. Now on set filming the third season, co-workers have seen a change in the actor. “It seems like there’s a tremendous weight off his shoulders, a feeling of comfort,” says showrunner Steve Blackman. “There’s a lightness, a lot more smiling.” For Page, returning to set has been validating, if awkward at times. Yes, people accidentally use the wrong pronouns—“It’s going to be an adjustment,” Page says—but co-workers also see and acknowledge him.
Whatever challenges might lie ahead, Page seems exuberant about playing a new spectrum of roles. “I’m really excited to act, now that I’m fully who I am, in this body,” Page says. “No matter the challenges and difficult moments of this, nothing amounts to getting to feel how I feel now.” This includes having short hair again. During the interview, Page keeps rearranging strands on his forehead. It took a long time for him to return to the barber’s chair and ask to cut it short, but he got there. And how did that haircut feel?
Page tears up again, then smiles. “I just could not have enjoyed it more,” he says.
