Behind The Photoshoot : Fall 2015
When I design a new collection I think of where the Meredith Banzhoff woman is, what she's thinking about, and how she's feeling. For this collection I dreamed of her cuddling up on a leather couch by the fire in a country lodge. I was inspired by plaids, cozy flannels, crisp tuxedo-esque white cotton shirts, and sheer black & white silk chiffon prints.Â
To shoot this collection we found a speakeasy in the Lower East Side of Manhattan. It was perfect! This back room had a fire place, red velvet couches, a piano, and cozy nooks. The perfect location for our Fall 2015 Collection.
It takes a full team of 8 creative people to pull off our well orchestrated shoots. It's so gratifying to be part of this process and I'm excited to share a few behind the scenes photos with you!Â
Fashion Week is coming up and Fall 2015 collections are about to launch. Here is a sneak peak of what we're up to...

History of the Shirt Dress
What came first the button-up shirt or the shirt dress? The button-up shirt, traditionally worn exclusively by men, was common for women to wear as far back as the mid 1800âs.
But when did the shirt dress come into fashion?
In 1939 the Utility Dress was born. Ration Fashion also known as The Utility Clothing Scheme was a result of WWII. It was introduced in the U.K by the British government in response to the shortage of labor and materials due to the requirements of the war effort. Approved utility clothing was then marked the CC41 logo.
This controlled commodity mark designated that the item met the governmentâs strict regulations.
In 1942 the US followed suit and introduced their version called the General Limitation Order L-85 and American women joined their British counterparts. Shops sold the utility dress in a variety of approved fabrics.
What we know as the shirt dress was first called a shirtwaist dresses when they became fashionable during the 1950âs. The 1950âs Chirstian Dior shirtwaist dress, post WWII, became known as the âNew Lookâ â a full skirt featuring a notched collar and 3/4-length sleeves. More informal versions became a staple of many womenâs wardrobes.
Today there are many versions of the shirt dress. Meredith Banzhoff, most notably known for her tailored shirting that eliminates the gape at the bust, has created her version of the shirt dress.

A Trip To Thailand Through Food
For those of you who know me, I love to travel and I am such a foodie! I recently took a trip to Thailand for my honeymoon and per usual, immersed myself in the culture. Cooking with the locals, exploring a silk factory, and visiting the food markets were just a few of my favorite things.
Did You Know Papaya is a Fruit and a Vegetable?
Cook like a local with this authentic papaya salad recipe. Courtesy of Pantawa Cooking School in Chaing Mai, Thailand. This Recipe for Som Tum (North East Thailand Papaya Salad) opened my eyes to new flavors...and I loved it!
Start with fresh ingredients ... and as our chef told us the "fantastic four"
Ingredients: makes one serving
2 Bird Eye Chilis
1 Peeled Garlic Clove
1 TBS Palm Sugar
4 Green Beans
1 1/2 TBS Lime Juice
1 1/2 TBS Fish Sauce
1/4 Small Tomato
1 TBS Baby Dried Shrimp (optional)
1 TBS Toasted Peanuts
1/2 Green Papaya
Tools:
Mortar, pestle, sharp knife, and cutting board
Instructions:
1. Peel the papaya, shred it with a shredder (or mandolin slicer) to thin strips. When a papaya is green it is considered a vegetable. Use a tool like the one below to shave the papaya.
2. Cut the green beans into one inch pieces. Cut the tomatoes into thin strips and remove the inside seeds.
3. Smash the chilies and peeled garlic with mortar and pestle. Add the dried baby shrimp (optional) and continue bashing. Add the peanuts and mix well.
4. Add the shredded papaya and mix with the pestle, slightly bashing. Just enough so the mixture soaks up the flavors. Use a bigger spoon as a support tool that way you can shift the salad in the mortar and it doesn't fall out while bashing and mixing.
5. Add the palm sugar, tomatoes, green beans, lime juice and fish sauce. Continue to lightly bash, shift with the spoon and mix until the juices are evenly distributed.
6. Spoon and serve.
Som Tum is just one of the dishes we made for our 4 course meal. Interested in the other recipes? Let me know, I'm more than happy to share!
HAPPY COOKING!
Recipe : How To Make The Best Turkey Ever!
Thanksgiving is a time to get together with friends and family to enjoy each other's company and give thanks. Every year we host a large Friends-giving dinner and I wanted to share my husbandâs famous turkey recipe. From brine to gravy, follow these steps to prepare the perfect turkey for your next feast!
Go ahead, you can salivate.
INGREDIENTS
1 fresh whole turkey (18 to 20 pounds)
Brine: 7 quarts (28 cups) water 1 1/2 cups coarse salt
6 cups apple cider vinegar
Rub:
1 bunch fresh thyme
1 bunch fresh sage
1 bunch fresh rosemary
1 bunch fresh parsley 1 stick of butter Gravy:
1/2 bottle white wine
4 carrots
4 celery
6 shallots
2 (32oz) cartons of chicken broth
flower
water
salt and pepper to taste
INSTRUCTIONS
Step 1: Make the Brine
One day before roasting turkey, bring 1quart of water and the salt to a simmer, stirring until salt has dissolved. Let cool for 5 minutes.
 Step 2: Submerge the Turkey
Place the turkey in a large oven roasting bag. Add salt mixture, remaining 6 quarts of water, and vinegar. Tie bag; if the turkey is not submerged, weight it with a plate. Refrigerate for 24 hours, flipping turkey once. If there isn't room in your refrigerator, place the bagged bird inside a cooler, and surround it with ice, replenishing as necessary to keep it at 40 degrees.
Step 3: Remove and Season
Remove turkey from brine one hour before you're ready to roast it, and pat it dry inside and out. Mince the parsley, sage, rosemary, and thyme. Melt the butter and mix in the minced seasonings. Â Apply that mixture both on the outside of the raw turkey and underneath the skin.
Step 4: Prepare the Broth
White the seasoning marinates on the chicken, chop up carrots, celery, and shallots. Put the vegetables in the bottom of the turkey pan and add the chicken broth, white wine, and salt and pepper.
 Step 5: Roast
Place the Turkey in the pan and tent with tin foil. Set the oven to 325 degrees and cook approximately 15 minutes for each pound. Take the tent off the bird for the last hour. Use a turkey baster to coat the top of the bird with drippings to make sure it does not get burned or dry out. Let the turkey sit for 30 minutes before cutting.
Step 6: Prepare the Gravy
Place a metal strainer over a fat separator and pour in the broth, drippings, and vegetables from the bottom of the turkey pan. The processed vegetables will thicken and add flavor to the gravy. Pour the pureed mixture into a pot. Turn the stove on low and stir in flower and water until it reaches the desired thickness. Add salt and pepper for flavor.
If hosting a big party make sure to include plenty of chicken broth in the bottom of the turkey pan to ensure there is enough gravy for the entire party.

Heshima Kenya Fashion Challenge : Chicago
We had a successful event and fabulous turn out for the 3rd annual Heshima Kenya fundraiser and fashion challenge. Five designers, including Meredith Banzhoff, Modahnik, Borris Powell, Lagi Nadeau, and Katelyn Pankoke participated in the "Project Runway" inspired competition, which was emceed by Windy City LIVE co-host Val Warner and judged by members of Chicago's Fashion Community, including Dawn Bonasera Global Store Director, Louis Vuitton -The Magnificent Mile Chicago, Trevian Kutti ,and Erica Strama.
In early November, competing designers received two Maisha Collective scarves chosen at random, and  had two weeks to design one original women's look and one accessory. Designers were able to use as many additional materials as needed to create their looks, which highlighted the scarf material.  Each designer participated in a Q & A about their inspiration and looks were judged based on originality, wearability, demonstration of designer personality, and construction quality.

Acorn Squash : Untapped Fall Veggie
In the midst of Fall with Haloween fast approaching we think of apple picking, costume parties, prepping for trick-or-treaters and pumpkin carving. But what about the out-shined Acorn Squash?
Instead of the usual dinner routine, switch it up! I've recently seen squash inspired dishes popping up on resturant fall menues, which got me to thinking I'd like to try my own rendition at home. I found this great recipe via Half Baked Harvest. It combines my favorite flavors of sweet and spicy with a little bit of kick.
Try this new recipe and let me know what you think!
Chipotle Chicken Stuffed Brown Sugar Roasted Acorn Squash
(that's certainly a mouth full)
Ingredients
2 acorn squash, halved and seeded
2 tablespoons butter, softened to room temp or melted
4 tablespoons brown sugar
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper
1/2 pound boneless skinless chicken tenders or breast
1/4 cup olive oil
2 tablespoon lime juice
2 cloves garlic, minced or grated
3 whole canned chipotle chilies in adobo, minced (use less for less heat)
2 tablespoon fresh cilantro, chopped
1 teaspoon dried oregano
1 teaspoon cumin
2 teaspoons chili powder
1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper
1/2 cup cooked couscous (may sub rice or quinoa)
1 cup fresh spinach, chopped
1 cup sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
Browned Butter Bread Crumbs
1/2 cup panko bread crumbs
2 tablespoons butter
Instructions
Preheat the oven to 425 degrees F.
Brush the insides of each acorn squash with 2 tablespoons melted butter and then sprinkle on the brown sugar, salt and pepper. Place in roasting pan and bake for 45 to 50 minutes or until the flesh of the squash is fork tender. Remove from the oven and swirl the liquid around the flesh of the squash and coat it well, trying to use up all the sauce/butter that formed while baking, then discard any remaining liquid.
Place the chicken in a baking dish. Toss with 1 tablespoon olive oil and a pinch of salt and pepper. Bake for 15 to 20 minutes or until the chicken is no long pink in the middle. During the last 10 minutes of cooking add the chopped spinach to one side of the baking dish and toss with a drizzle of olive oil. Place back in the oven until the spinach is wilted, about 5 -10 minutes. Remove from the oven and allow to cool 10 minutes, then shred the chicken with two forks or your hands.
In a medium size bowl combine the remaining olive oil, lime juice, garlic, chipotle peppers, fresh cilantro, oregano, cumin, chili powder, cinnamon, salt and pepper. Set aside.
Mix the spinach, chicken, cooked couscous and chipotle sauce together. Now grab the acorn squash halves and stuff with the chicken mixture, top with shredded cheese and bake for 10 minutes or until the cheese has melted and acorn squash is crisp.
While the squash bakes make the brown butter bread crumbs. Heat a heavy-bottomed sauce pan over medium heat, add the butter. Melt butter over medium heat until just browned. Butter will melt, foam, and froth, then begin to brown along the bottom. Quickly remove from the stove and whisk about 30 seconds longer. Let sit 2 minutes and them stir in the Panko bread crumbs.
Remove the acorn squash from the oven and top with fresh cilantro and the browned butter bread crumbs. Enjoy!
Thank you to our friends at Half Baked Harvest for this delicious stuffed squash...yum!

15 min Fix : Quick Cleaning Before Guests Arrive
You just found out friends are coming over and your house is a mess! I try to keep my place picked up but with a busy schedule and a husband who just doesn't "see" the clutter, I inevitably get caught in a last minute scramble.Â
I like to be a great host and having a presentable clean home when guests come over is a big deal to me. So, I've discovered a few quick fixes that make my home look clean without the hour (or more) of scrubbing, organizing, and prepping my home occasionally needs.Â
The Key is to focus on the areas your guests will see: living room, kitchen, bathroom
1. Cram & Slam
This is my favorite method. Take all the miscellaneous stuff that is inside your door, in your hallways, on your counters and stuff it into the closest closet, drawer, or in your room. Keep the door shut and no one will know. Organize later, all you care about is looking clean for your guests.
2. Fold and Straighten
Next, quick fold any blankets on your couch, straighten throw pillows, and tidy up coffee and end tables. (Ignore the dust on the TV stand, only you will notice this)
3. Vacuum
It's amazing how refreshed your room can look after a quick sweep. Removing the lint, dirt, dust, and animal hair that builds up (though it may not look like much) can make a big difference.
4. Tackle the Kitchen
Make a quick sweep of the kitchen. Put dirty dishes in the dishwasher and wipe down the counters. If your friends are like ours, everyone likes to socialize in the kitchen. After all that's where the food and drinks come from.Â
All set and ready to entertain!
Tell me about your quick fix to a clean home. What is the first thing you do when you find out guests are coming over?

The Hidden Secrets of NYC
Smorgasburg Brooklyn
With over 100 vendors every weekend, this is a food lovers dream! So many options it's tough to choose. To make your exploring a little easier I recommend starting with:Â
1) Mighty Quinn's Barbecue, it's one of the best BBQ places I've been to in the city. Â They also have 5 restaurant locations: East Village, West Village, Financial District, Prospect Heights Brooklyn, and Clifton, NJ.
2)Â The Milk Truck, a perfect match for grilled cheese lovers.
3) Takumi Taco, a must try fusion of Japanese and Mexican flavors.

Smorgasburg happens in two locations every weekend: Saturdays at East River State ParkâKent Ave. and N. 7 St.âon the Williamsburg waterfront; and Sundays at Brooklyn Bridge Parkâs Pier 5. Both locations are open from 11am to 6pm.The markets are always open rain or shine.
Dominique Ansel BakeryÂ
The Cronut⢠pastry is the unique creation by Chef Dominique Ansel that many have described to be a croissant-doughnut hybrid. After its launch on May 10, 2013, Cronut⢠pastry fans spanned the world from Berlin to Singapore, making it the most virally talked about dessert item in history. There is only one flavor of the Cronut⢠pastry every month.
The Honorable William Wall
The âHonorable William Wallâ is the floating clubhouse of Manhattan Sailing Club. This clubhouse is anchored in New York Harbor just north of Ellis Island from May through October. The clubhouse is the best place in the city to watch the evening sailboat races and to marvel at the skyline of Manhattan. The clubhouse serves as a spectator platform for members and guests to watch the races, an educational center for teaching sailing and as an events space for corporate and member parties. From November through April, the clubhouse is docked at North Cove Marina.

Summer Recipe- Kiwi Blueberry Mojito
Summer is finally here and we've found the perfect recipe for you. This antioxidant infused drink has the essentials to keep you healthy and happy for the summer and beyond.Â
Ingredients
6 kiwis, peeled and cut in half or quartered
4 kiwis, peeled and sliced - to be used as garnishes
6 ounces of blueberries, to be crushed
6 ounce of blueberries, to be kept whole as garnishes
Âź cup fresh lime juice, from 1-2 limes
~ ½ cup sugar, adjust to taste
4 ounce pack of mint, leaves only
1 ½ - 2 cups of sparkling water
1 to 1 ½ cups of rum, adjust based on your preference
Ice as needed
Blue and/or green sugar to decorate glass rims
Instructions
Place the cut kiwis in a small food processor with the sugar and lime juice, pulse until you have coarse puree. Mix the kiwi puree with the rum, you can start by adding the lower amount and then adjust as you prepare the drink.
Gently crush the first 6 ounces of blueberries using a muddler.
You can make the mojitos in pitcher or in individual glasses.
Moisten the rims of the glasses with a slice of lime and garnish the rims with the sugar. If you canât find blue and/or green sugar, you can use blue/green sugar sprinkles.
To make it in a pitcher, pour the kiwi puree into the pitcher, add a layer of ice, add a good amount of mint leaves and kiwi slices. Next add a few more ice cubes, and then add the crushed blueberries, some more mint leaves and whole blueberries. Top off with the sparkling water and mix gently. Taste and add more rum, sparkling water, or sugar if needed.
To make the drink in individual glasses, follow a similar process as for the pitcher, but add a few whole blueberries at the beginning. You can also add a slice of kiwi with the blueberries at the end.
Notes
To make this as a mocktail variation, just leave out the rum and replace it with additional sparkling water or sparkling lemonade.
