In the spirit of International Women's Day, I wrote about how women at home and abroad are working to break down barriers in a predominantly male field: SUSHI! 🍣 Go check it out at my Japanese culture blog, www.meauxtaku.com!
#MUGOCRACY
Me: you’re spending way too much time doing activist stuff and not enough time designing new stuff
(More positive) me: porque no los dos
and thus the #MUGOCRACY was born

Riding in our 3000GT, wearing my newest Hiroshima Toyo Carp hat today in celebration of their sweep of the Yokohama DeNA BayStars in the Central League Climax Series Final Stage! 🇯🇵⚾️🎏 Now, on to the Japan Series, their first since 1991. They'll be playing either the Hokkaido Nippon Ham Fighters or the Fukuoka SoftBank Hawks, depending on who wins that league (they're currently tied at 2 and 2). A win at the Japan Series would be their first since 1984! がんばって、カープ‼️
The recent comic from @infjoe, "Finding Passion and Accomplishment," really hit home for me. The comic discusses how some people have a more difficult time finding their place in life than others. Some people, like my sister (a teacher), know exactly what they want to do and go for it without question; others bounce between jobs until they find their niche. On a personal level, my path to a career in art wasn't an easy one. Going to art school or majoring in art was never an option for me, and my work in the few art classes I was able to take in high school was undervalued by those who mattered most. Pictured here is one of my favorite pieces I created in high school: a pen and ink drawing of Led Zeppelin's John Paul Jones. It was my final project for my Drawing III/Painting I class--the last piece of art I created in a structured setting. I was really proud of it, but when I worked on it at home, I'd often hear things like "get up off your ass" / "stop working on that" / "go do something worthwhile." I was conditioned to believe that art--MY art--was not worthwhile. As a result, this piece was largely the last work I created until more than a decade later, when, thanks to my husband's gentle encouragement and positivity, I decided to try my hand at T-shirt design. Fast forward to present day: my work has been featured at @theyetee, @teefury, @shirtpunchblog and more...something I never thought possible. However, even now, I sometimes find myself questioning the validity of what I do, disparaging myself when discussing my work and career, and talking myself out of working on (or even beginning) projects that are purely for my own benefit and development. I'm hoping that once I move to our new house--into a safer, more tranquil environment--I can get back to my roots and work with traditional media again. I'd like to think that the best is yet to come. As always, thanks for your support here on social media, and thanks for reading.
