Do you know any good angsty magic reveals or angsty fics in general?
Ooft you have come to the Right Place whom in this fandom does not know of an angsty reveal fic. Although I warn you that I don’t like over the top angst, but here are my recommendations:
Dying to Return (AO3) by StormDancer
When they try to hang him, he floats.
They put him on the pyre at dawn.
NOTE: So good. So, so good. It’s got a really strong voice that kinda comes across as wistful, and it’s written quite beautifully
Keep the Magic Secret (AO3) by orphan_account
For the prompt: Someone tells Arthur about the legends of Emrys, an all-powerful warlock whose destiny is to protect Arthur and his kingdom and help bring about an age of peace. He is told that Emrys is someone close to him, and has hidden his identity and trials over the years to protect himself and make sure he can continue on at Arthur’s side. When Arthur asks who it is, the person turns to Arthur and shrewdly asks: “Arthur, who do you want it to be?” … Arthur’s mind automatically goes to Merlin.
NOTE: haven’t actually read this in a while so I might be mistaken on how much angst is in here but its really well written and from memory there IS angst (but then again, when is there not)
Treason to Us (AO3) by Janne_d
Arthur finds out Merlin’s secret - and he does not react well.
Arthur snatched his sword up from the ground, rolled back onto his feet and lunged forward quickly to bring the point to Merlin’s chest and keep him away. “Stay where you are,” he said and Merlin stopped, his eyes going wide in panic.
NOTE: The betrayal of trust we all know and love with a realistic thought process and adjusting period for Arthur
Pining For the Moon (AO3) by Eachpeachpearplum
13 297 words | M for violence
First, there is the rage, like nothing Arthur has ever known. It’s hot, hotter than anything, hotter than the kitchen ovens and the blacksmith’s forge and dragon’s breath. It fills him to the brim and carries on, washing over him in waves that scald, and, as Arthur looks around him at the carnage, the man at its centre, he has no idea how he is ever meant to let go of it.
“I can explain,” Merlin says, his eyes still blazing as he kneels there, charred by the fires he lit, blood on his hands. So much blood. “Arthur, sire, please, I can explain.”
First, there is the rage, and then there is a knife at Merlin’s throat.
NOTE: oh god. You’re waiting for the thing to happen, and then it happens and then you’re like ‘he didn’t- did he? he can’t have- but-’ and then it gets a little bit better and then in punches you in the face again. Why can’t these boys talk to each other. Why do they have such low self esteems. Why are they like this.
So these are all magic reveal ones, maybe I should make an angst all-star list? Anyway, enjoy!
