Hi, Auri disliker anon here. I don't like her because the only perception of her we get is "oh my so whimsical and delicet and fragile, she's so pure" and she seems like a character with not one flaw. Kvothe loves her, Elodin loves her, the whole fandom loves her. She's like the "I'm perfect but doesnt know it so I'm above you" character

Okay, I suppose I can understand that. That’s not how I read her or interpret her character, but I can see how you would.

I personally think both Kvothe and Elodin see themselves in Auri and how their lives could turn into hers, so they help her. She also is outside of society and most societal norms, so Kvothe esp can be more honest with her, about his emotions because she understands the pain he has gone through and free of judgment.

Have you read Slow Regard of Silent Things? It’s from her point of view and she becomes more three dimensional, and we see more of her past and flaws.

This alarms me, not because anon doesnt like Auri (people are allowed to like or dislike any character they want) but because anon percieves auri as being a flawless character.

Explicitly in the book she is described as having intense agoraphobia (only able to come out of the sewers when the sky is blocked by clouds), paranoia (running at the sight of new people) and some level of OCD (wearing the same dress rather than using a secondhand dress). She is “fragile and delicate” because, as Kvothe points out, she is slowly dying of long term malnutrition.

Spelled out, this is a character who literally cannot actually survive on her own. But, and this is what makes me sad, this is perceived as a flawless female because this is exactly the description of the manic pixie girl portrayed as the dream girl in so many stories.

One thing I like about the KKC is that if Kvothe thinks Auti is beautiful, it is despite all of these things (not because of them as so many stories do).

As an aside, throughout the series, Kvothe meets many women, and theres not one I can think of, that he doesnt think of as beautiful, regardless of body type or personage or anything. Bast even calls him out on it, pointing out that even Denna has physical flaws that Kvothe never even thinks to mention. So if Kvothe thinks of Auri as beautiful, its not because shes dainty or feminine, its because to Kvothe, all girls are queens.

what she means: Doors of Stone has so much to cover, when Kote introduces off the his story, he lists off all the names he has been called, and we have only heard five of the ten names. He lists his first lover as giving him a nickname, but neither Felurian nor Denna have given him that nickname, so does that mean he gets another love interest? He also says he has stolen princesses, when only one princess has been mentioned in the story and he hasn't met any, yet it's the first myth he mentions. And he says he's been expelled from The University, and he technically already has, but he's still there, so was that the time he was referring to, or does he get expelled another time? When he says he's walked paths in the moonlight when others would not, did he mean when he was with the fae, or is that another part that needs to be covered? He has talked to Gods apparently, but Kvothe has only mentioned Tehlu, so who are the other Gods that come into play later, or does he merely mean mythical and powerful beings, like the Cthaeh? When he says he's loved women, does he mean just sex, or emotional attachment as well? Because so far he has only showed romantic interest in Denna and only sexual and platonic interest in other women? And he's written songs, but the popular ones were about Ambrose and Felurian, hardly ones that would make a minstrel weep. Not to mention, Chronicler says this is the face of a man who killed an angel, again, was he being literal, or is that just another rumor? And how will he meet Bast? And, of course, who is the king he will kill and why and how does he do it? So how is Pat going to fit all these facts into Doors of Stone when it's supposed to be shorter than Wise Man's Fear?????
