SEMI-HIATUS ANNOUNCEMENT

     I should really make this official. I haven’t had too much muse for Finnick lately, and what with scholarship apps, school, other responsibilities, and my other RP blog, I can’t be on here as much as I have been in the past. Mutuals please request my skype if you’d like to keep in touch!

     This isn’t to say I’ll never be here— I will, just sporadically. I’ll check in at least once a week for sure, but replies might be slow until my life gets a little less busy.

She blushed and tried not to laugh, hoping to not make him think that she was laughing at his name. “I mean—I’ve heard weirder than Finnick. I’ve seen Finn as a name. I don’t think it’s that wild,” she shrugged, hoping to make him feel better. Or smile. She definitely liked that second one.

"He’s said his favorite animal is a dolphin several times. The drawings of them are a different story," she laughed.

"Yeah, I've seen," Finnick said with a laugh. "But I mean, what are you going to say when a cute little kid hands you a picture? You take it with a smile and say thanks and put it in the fridge. Even if it looks more like a weird dog than a dolphin." He grinned. "So we've talked all about my job and my kid, what about you? What do you do when you're not teaching?"

She blushed. “You know I love to sing with you,” she meekly replied, cheeks bright and pink. He was so sweet to her, so kind. He made her feel special. There he was, continuing on with the song. Her favorite, really. "If you insist," she laughed. "I’m on my way, I’m on my way, I’m on my way, .I’m on my way In the middle of the night, I’ve been running, running, running And I’m on my way home.” Honestly, she adored singing. Absolutely adored singing. Especially with him…but she was just…scared.

He smiled as she joined in, glancing over to her before turning back to the piano keys. Annie really did have a beautiful voice-- it went wonderfully with his. And the blush on her cheeks was adorable, too.

     "Lights go down      Where will I run to      Lights go down      Where will I hide      All my life I've been running      All my life I've been running."

He finished the song and then turned back to her, tucking a stray strand of her hair behind her ear. "I heard there's some really great supply closets at the school they're having regionals at."

“It’s alright. I mostly keep to myself … when I’m not whoring.”

"Yeah, I understand. I would too if I didn’t have people coming at me from every direction whenever I’m here in the Capitol."

Olesya tilted her head to the side, and after a moment nodded. “That is true. My business keeps me in the Capitol, which then keeps me and my activities under his watchful eye.” A sly smirk spread across her face. “Not a danger persay, but given the right circumstances, I can be considered a threat. People here aren’t careful with what they say during various appointments with me.”

Finnick half-chuckled. "Makes sense. I have dirt on dozens of the Capitol's most elite, too. I don't know what I could do with it to hurt them, but I'm sure there's something. It's better for them to keep all their pets in the same cage. If we fight amongst ourselves maybe we won't try to go at them or whatever."

She nearly jumped out of her seat when she felt the touch on her shoulder. Annie turned around—oh. Him. Her cheeks brightened to a soft pink as she scooted over on the bench for him to sit next to her. If anyone caught them together, they’d surely be ostracized by both of their choirs and thrown out. And singing made him so happy. The last thing she wanted was to take that away from him. Even more than that, though, she didn’t want to be apart from him. "I don’t know, Finn," she blushed, looking at the keys. "I like… I like just playing.”

He sat next to her, slowly pressing down on a piano key. She was such a beautiful singer-- it was a shame she had stage fright or whatever it was that kept her from reaching her potential.

                    "Oh, come on. You have a great voice. If you won't sing for them, at least sing                     with me? Like a duet. Harmonize with me."

He didn't wait for an answer. Beginning to play the piano, he looked down at the keys and began, picking up where she'd left off, slowing the tempo and bringing it down to suit his deeper voice--

                    "When the lights go down in the middle of the night                      where will I run to?                      When the lights go down in the middle of the night                      where will I hide?"

Her fingers slowly danced over the keys, singing quietly. She’d never had the courage to audition, but at the piano, she felt at home, she felt okay. She could still feel the music and still let the notes surge through her—

Even if she did prefer to sing.

There was one person in the world that she knew had heard her sing, but he…she couldn’t see him nearly as much as she liked. Stupid “loyalty” rules. Or something like that.

Annie continued to play, singing gently. She was the least necessary part of her a capella choir, but…again…she could play and was too scared to sing.

Eavesdropping on a rival was strictly against the rules. Finnick knew that-- but this rival was different, right? Different because he frequently made out with her in supply closets?

     He went the rest of the way into the room. She hadn't noticed him. He placed a hand on her shoulder.                                     "You know, you have a beautiful voice."

     He said it casually, even though he knew she didn't know that. In fact, he himself was probably the only one who knew that, since she never let anyone ever hear her sing.

                                     "You could certainly get a better part if you'd audition."

"That is exactly what I am saying! You don’t have to try so hard..I mean you’re already a great dad." she snickered.

     "But... how else would I communicate with my offspring? I need corny dad jokes."

"Can we not talk about it?" Faina mumbles, crossing her arms as her father continued interrogating her. "He pissed me off, so I hit him, he hit back. That's all that happened. It's not a big deal, Dad."

"This is like the fourth time you’ve hit someone in a month," He replied with a sigh. "Use your words, hon."

"I am using my words! After I tell them to fuck off, if they don’t, I hit him. It’s just consequences."

"That’s really sad, how the dolphins are treated. You’e much braver than I am to help them. I can never handle the ASPCA commercials, so I commend you for helping the animals like that," she smiled, still blushing. He was just…kind of perfect? Her cheeks turned pinker. "He actually spelled yours as a challenging word one time," she mused.

"Oh, well--" He half-chuckled. "It's not really bravery. We help them, make them healthy and happy again, they let us study them. It's a fair trade-off. Anyway, I love them. Always have. They're just such interesting creatures, you know? The way they communicate and stuff. Luke likes spinner dolphins 'cause they jump out of the water and spin around in the air. I got him a DVD about them for his last birthday and he watches it all the time. Wait, did Luke actually spell my name right? That's wild. I really don't know what my parents were thinking. My brother's name is-- uh, was-- Chris. Chris and Finnick. A normal name, and then a weird made-up name." He shook his head.

She bit the inside of her cheek nodding in agreement. “Well doesn’t every kid want to be a celebrity?” she smiled a bit. Her eyes changed color they were a bit greener than they had been when she arrived. She felt more comfortable now. But still she was tense. It was said hearing that their were no grandparents in the picture, unless her mom’s were around but she half expected that. Not too many people had those anymore. It was less common for older people to live..these days. “I’m sorry to hear that..I would’ve loved to meet them. They sound like wonderful people.” she mused twisting her ring round and round, to calm herself. The motion was soothing.. 

"Well I don’t know where to start, I don’t really know who I am. But I guess I can tell what I know. This is the story I was told…my mother, left me on the doorstep of my dad’s home, strange because he never knew why she chose him to care for me. I grew up in the capitol, never really felt like I belonged. My dad..Acai..he’s a designer in the capitol, a lot of his stuff is really great and very popular. He took me in like his own, raised me, for the longest I thought he was my dad. I didn’t realize the obvious differences.." she smiled while talking about her adoptive father. "He’s dark skinned, brown eyes, 6’2, yeah I found out on my 13th birthday I was adopted when one of the kids at school commented on how I looked nothing like him. And I went home immediately and asked him, if I was adopted." she laughed a little. "It was silly to think that I thought he was my dad..but it was all I knew." 

She tucked her hair behind her ear. “I went through a rough patch when I turned 16…I got mixed up in the wrong crowd..had a drinking problem, dad wasn’t home to supervise me all the time, and his faith in me was well..lets say he had too much faith in me. I ended up in the hospital one time due to alcohol poisoning. I got involved with this guy..who was abusive..I dated him until I was 18..I just finally got my life together again.” she must’ve sounded like a mess..”Now I’ve been sober for a year..and taking the dating thing easy..I don’t trust people.” she was warning him. Yet she had told him her whole life story.

"I don’t know why, but I feel like I can trust you.."

"Hey, good for you for getting sober and getting out of a bad relationship," He said with a grin when she mentioned all she had overcome recently. He'd watched people shrivel up like raisins, sticking needles in their arms and drinking and ruining themselves physically since the Games had ruined them mentally. He hadn't experienced it himself, but he knew it was difficult and if she got herself out of it, well, that showed she was strong.

   "Taking the dating thing easy is always a good idea when you're young," He added, as if he hadn't been in a very serious relationship when he was her age. He meant it, though. "And if I'm your dad-- which, let's face it, it's pretty damn obvious at this point-- then you should be able to trust me. You seem like a good kid and I'm really glad you tracked me down."

   Finnick imagined for a moment what it might have been like if Sabine's mother somehow left her at Finnick's doorstep instead of with some Capitol stylist. He was so young-- well, okay, not that young, especially considering Noah was born just a couple years after Sabine-- but still, he wouldn't have been ready. Would he have even kept her? He tried to push the thought away-- he had no way of knowing, after all.

   "Your adoptive dad sounds really cool. Do you still live with him?"

"Oh, it is a lot of work, but I enjoy being with the kids. There are a few who were a…hassle…but teaching them and guiding them…It’s all worth it," she shrugged with a light blush. "Luke couldn’t spell it all that well, but he told me you were a marine biologist?" she asked. "That must be exciting."

Finnick grinned. "Yeah, I am. It's great. It's what I always wanted to do. Luke loves the animals-- he always wants to play with the dolphins in our rehab center. They're dolphins from Sea World, though, and the keepers there treated them horribly, so they're unpredictable in nature and I'm not about to let my adorable six year old dive into their tank.  And Luke's never been too good at spelling, honestly. It took me a month to teach him to spell his own name and I think he probably still couldn't spell my name."

"And every thing has to be convenient for him.” She huffed, trying to hide her irritation. ” Who would else would make all of their dresses and suits? We can’t let just any old stylist or designer do that!”“

"Because if he keeps you constantly busy you're not a danger," Finnick said with a sigh. Most people in Panem probably wouldn't have the audacity to say something like that about Snow, but Snow had already threatened everything Finnick cared about, so he felt oddly elusive.
