hey yuru! was wondering what you use to keep your art so well photographed when its traditional. i struggle to take good pictures of my traiditional art. if you scan your art could you spare any tips for good photographing techniques for those who don't have the money for a scanner... although i dont know if you can scan drawings in public places... sorry im all over the place but i hope this ask makes sense. thank you in advance!

i use basically just the iphone camera, then i import it into procreate and adjust the colors and often do some other things too (which is why you'll see weird marks on some pieces). it's really hard to get good lighting, i spend a long time walking around inside and looking for different places with good natural lighting *_-

i started recently using the indigo app and the colors seem to be much better and more vivid/more true-to-life than my normal iphone camera (i used to have an xr which had a good camera, but i have a newer phone now with horrible postprocessing effects)

Recently, I've been learning Japanese, which I think is taking up the space of making art, as I have very little free time. I was making art during my classes before, but I've realized I want to pay more attention to both art and my classes. I have a break coming up, so I think I will make an artwork during that time, although for the immediate future it's on the backburner. I find my relationship to art to be strange, because I always feel like I want to do it, but each artwork feels like a project. Making art relaxes me, but managing a project does the opposite... How can both be true? On the bright side, I just finished the N5 grammar deck on Bunpro... 自分の体。。。日本人になる。。。ああああああああ。please don't take this literally.

hi! thank you so much, and best of luck. i think my advice is nothing special.. posting regularly helps, and i do think it's easier to get a following- to get the first set of eyes on your art- if you're drawing characters people are familiar with, that helped me meet people who'd be interested in my own original art!

it's easy to get a lot of followers/eyes from a certain type of "junk food"-type content, what i mean is that by far the most popular drawing i've ever done, leaps and bounds beyond anything else, is this:

but what is that worth? a lot of numbers, sure, but it didn't help me build an audience that actually cared about my art/that my art meant anything to. SO don't get discouraged- if this kind of "junk food" content seems to be the easiest way to grow a following, it's facile

it's not selfish or superficial to want people to see your art- don't let anyone make you think that, it's human to want to share art with other people! at the same time, trying to "win" at social media will set you up for failure, the best you can do is have fun

I’ve been scrapbooking recently, I liked this page a lot!

I saw Kikuo live in Shinjuku! I was surprised because it was actually more DJing + EDM focused, rather than a pure setlist. Despite this, I had a lot of fun. Kikuo also has a megalomaniac type persona. I expected a Vocaloid producer to be shy, but nope! In the least offensive way possible, he reminded me of a cult leader from 20th Century Boys, even though I haven’t read it… The visuals were out of this world, I now believe Kikuo is the number one Vocaloid producer on Earth.

hi io! you don't have to answer if it's too personal, but how did you develop your personal (fashion & art) style? it's very unique!

hi anon! i thought of this ask for a few days and i want to give a sincere, helpful answer, but i think colin armistead puts it better than i could:

i didn't consciously work to cultivate a style, i just drew what i was drawn to - i'm hugely indebted to other artists and i look at a ton of other art, so i'll see ways an artist stylizes something, a palette choice, a composition i like, etc and i'll incorporate it into my own art, and this changes as my own tastes change over the years. i could list specific artists i adore and whose influence i would hope my own art could one day reflect, but i really think that trying to consciously 'find' an art style is a fool's errand- work on drawing what you love, look at art, steal from artists you love, don't worry about being original, just draw

I played Z.A.T.O recently. Aterwards, I became more optimistic about making art. In a way, the artwork I post online is like a transmission. Someone will appreciate it, even if it is just me. I tried researching what kind of radishes are grown in the Vorkuta region, but it seems they are just normal ball-shaped radishes. I couldn't find any specific information... anyone who recieves my radish transmission, please let me know.

Spoilers (my fan theory):

My personal theory is that when Asya and Tosya have this interaction: A: "...what about you?... you probably wouldn't exist if it weren't for this. " T: "...Course I would, you'd just call me by a different name." T: "I mean, I'd still be Tosya. You simply wouldn't label me as a distortion." This implied that Ira is a reincarnation of Tosya, which would explain why Ira and Tosya both care about Asya and defending her from harm. It would also explain why Ira's presence and actions remind Asya of the name "Tosya," who she misremembers in the early stages of the game. There is also the scene that is from Ira's prespective, right before she disappears. She mentions the window by the car repair shop, and her inability to break it. This makes sense only if Tosya and Ira are the same person, or are connected in some way, since this references the event in which Asya was saved by Tosya. Alternatively... Some of the events Asya wishes for in the early stages of the game come true. Ira rescues her. She goes to the cinema. Garin becomes nicer to her. Marina talks to her... Maybe she can influence the actions of people around her with her thoughts? Another thing I was thinking about is how Ira looks confused at Asya answer to why she was at the garages. Maybe this is because Asya's actions are not deterministic, and so she cannot read them. Aside from this, I can't get the mirror scene out of my head! I find myself thinking "I am my own parabolic antenna" often...

Do you have any opinions on radishes? I used to think they were all pretty much the same, but then I got a daikon radish and realized it must be a different species than the little red ones. I think you are the only person on Earth I associate with radishes. Do you have strong radish opinions? Maybe a favourite kind? Is there more to radishes than meets the eye?

oh yes, i do! thank you for the sublime question and perhaps the greatest compliment i can imagine. i love french breakfast radishes- they're very mild! i am always charmed by the beauty of watermelon radishes, and honestly, a standard white daikon is also always good.

(farmers markets are similar in the US but much less accessible both money and time-wise)

for all radish lovers, i also highly recommend the kohlrabi, a vegetable i am somewhat religious about

please tell me about your favorite root vegetables and your favorite way to prepare them

(we always ate radishes raw with butter and salt when i was growing up and that's still a beloved treat of mine)

Thank you for the thorough response! I will be on the look out for different radishes. I am fortunately in an area with affordable vegetable stores with a lot of seasonal variety. I do not have a favourite root vegetable, although I liked learning about all the different species that were domesticated in Peru as a result of me getting into Yume Nikki... Most of them are labelled as some kind of potato when sold internationally, but they are actually totally unrelated. Other than that, I like chopping the top third of daikon and eating it raw. If its really fresh, it has an excellent crunchy texture and a neutral, slightly sweet taste. It's good to eat with oily food, and feels kind of like salad even though its not made of leaves.

I think I will try to approach art with a less academic stance. I've realized that I rarely draw something for my own sake anymore! I'm usually drawing for an event or out of obligation. Last semester, I had concluded that it was because I lacked the skills to pull off what I wanted to create. I did a lot of contour figure drawings. I got really good at it too. It was a satisfying feeling, but I don't think it's actually translating into my digital art practice very much. When I do need to create original artwork, I feel mostly frustrated at the lengthy amount of time I spend not knowing what I should do. So, I think I will put my academic studies on hold and just draw what I like, figuring out what that may be along the way.
