Can I ask how you learned to draw? I’m trying to learn and I don’t know where to start

what do you want to draw? what artists do you admire? there's no wrong way to start and i think it's more important to try and suck at drawing things you want to draw rather than forcing yourself to grind what you "should" draw first.

for me personally, i didn't really 'learn to draw' in any structured way, i've just drawn for a long time as a hobby with various levels of attractiveness. because of this unstructuredness, i've improved very, very slowly, but i had fun the whole way.

(2013 -> 2015 -> 2017 -> 2019)

everyone's different - some people want to get good at drawing fast, and don't care if it involves "tedious" work, in which case i recommend working through a book. loomis's books are often recommended and will be easy to find. some people like draw a box. there are probably lots of good youtube channels with curricula.

i'm not someone who wants to get good at drawing fast, so i have just always emphasized drawing fun things messily. i think you'll learn a lot from keeping a sketchbook, copying things you see, and letting yourself be bad and have fun doing it.

Hi there! Would you ever consider making a digital version of 'sentimental logic'? I ask as shipping costs can be a bit rough at times.. Also, what are some novels/writing pieces you enjoyed that inspired a sudden burst of creativity? Even if you could share some recommendations of books you've recently enjoyed, that would be greatly appreciated. I look forward to your future illustrations and musings!

as for books- i finished remembrance of things past in june and wholeheartedly recommend that journey to everyone. proust is very funny and eternally relevant. the other books i've enjoyed most this year have been a few of bohumil hrabal's novellas: closely watched trains, all my cats, and too loud a solitude, and also my first two books by virigina woolf, to the lighthouse and mrs. dalloway. thank you for the question, i love talking about books ~

thank you! bigcartel isn't like redbubble or inprnt- it just provides a shop template/website, and you manufacture, package, and ship everything yourself!

good luck with your shop :D you can start a free bigcartel account, but i personally started selling things through ko-fi and etsy first and then made the investment in a paid bigcartel plan- ko-fi and etsy both manage more of the shop design/inventory stuff for you
