Not to be a bitch but sometimes people engage with fiction in the most boring way possible, and nowhere is this clearer than in videogames. Like what you mean you hate a character just because they were kind of abrasive when speaking to the player character? "They were mean to me" and it didn't occur to you to wonder why? Like, what might their attitude toward you reveal about the world? About the social dynamics within it? About their own perspectives and backgrounds and personalities? Does it even occur you to ask? Would you only have liked them if they bowed to your presence and talked about how great you are? Like I'm sorry but you're so boring. How boring fiction would be if it cathered to you

okay. listen. I try not to be pedantic about this sort of thing but it’s starting to get on my nerves. the wire mother offers milk but not comfort. the cloth mother offers comfort but not milk. if something is comforting, fun, or otherwise compelling, but lacks substance, that is the cloth mother. if something is boring or unpleasant but has substance, that is the wire mother.

nah nah hold on, let me get even more pedantic.

the big finding of the whole experiment was that both food and comfort are not just substantial, but required for healthy development. in the 50s the popular theory was that mothers should touch and hold their babies as little as possible to avoid “spoiling” them, especially right after birth (which explains uh. a lot about boomers as a generation).

Harlow conducted his experiment to investigate this idea, and he found that physical comfort nearly eclipsed the food as a need in the baby macaques. They would go to the wire mothers only when they were hungry, sometimes even trying to reach the milk bottles without letting go of the cloth mothers, because they so badly needed both. Harlow’s other experiments showed that being deprived of parental comfort and enrichment as babies dealt lasting psychological damage to the macaques. and today we know that human babies can just up and die without enough skin-to-skin contact.

so yeah, to highly social apes like us, comfort and fun are no less substantial than food, it’s just a question of how quickly it will kill you to go without it. do not deny yourself the cloth mother

I have been picking away at these for 2 days and I'm still struggling with shapes/consistency

Also, based on notes/tags on my previous Lucanis-headcanon-body-shapes post I am not alone on the 'this man does not have visible abs' thought so that's good to know.

Hi I'm taking this as a drawing suggestion so here;

So I'm not 100% sure yet but so far this is Late VG Lucanis to Me.

I am trying to keep at least somewhat close to his actual proportions (or at least from memory because I was too lazy to grab full refs, which is why I'm not 100% on it. I may have gone a bit too bulky but I'll compare later.)

Like I said in the tags of my Illario doodles; I only draw abs when I personally feel it's necessary. In Lucanis's case (especially late/post VG) I do not feel it. (Please tell me I'm not alone on this.)

I don't think some people realise how easy it is for personality-type frameworks to become tools of abuse. lol. here I am talking about astrology, but also mbti and the enneagram

my parents were always really into the enneagram. here's the thing about it: once you're told from a young age that you're the "emotional, melodramatic type", it becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy in the worst way. every time you have an outburst (because your parents are abusing you) it's "oh sweetie this is just you being a classic type 4". any kind of complaint, no matter how reasonable it is, is framed back to you as a consequence of an innate set of personality traits, rather than a response to your environment. this is possible no matter what personality type system you use. including 'personality disorders' as described in the dsm

Rough past couple of days but Morrowind screenshots inspired me ig
