Seahawks give Army vet, Texas LS Nate Boyer a shot as undrafted free agent
U.S. Army veteran and former Texas long snapper Nate Boyer says he has agreed to sign with the Seattle Seahawks as an undrafted free agent.
In an interview on NFL Network on Saturday, Boyer said he was called by Seattle coach Pete Carroll after the draft concluded. Boyer, 34, was part of the U.S. Army Special Forces in Afghanistan and earned a Bronze Star. Boyer also served in Iraq.
Boyer walked on to the football program at Texas and learned how to become a long snapper. He eventually won the starting job and was the long snapper for the Longhorns his final three seasons.
He had been working out in Los Angeles trying to put on weight after playing his college career at 195 pounds. Boyer told NFL Network he had just eaten a sandwich when Carroll called.
