July 3rd, the night before RWBY V10 news..........
Hopefully
cool
Ergo Sum has the absolute best lore text in the entire game. But ending it by implying that The Guardian is the "sword" and then going right into a new arc in EoF and Renegades where The Guardian is referred to as "The Weapon". Just really, really cool.
It kind of boggles me that I missed how racist Weiss actually is in V1 on my first watch. She isn't tangentially racist, or like against the White Fang racist. Shes RACIST racist. Like whites a good color for V1 Weiss, all she needed was the hood.
Only for that to swept under the rug at the end of V1 with "stop I don't care" god Volume 1 is ass.
"Reviews"
Alright, now I can put words to my previously unexplainable anxiety towards "critiques" of media. Most reviews, critiques, and analyses of media is surface level. Full stop. Take RWBY for example (what a surprise example that is). Most reviews of the show genuinely have no interest in engaging with it beyond "cool fights", and so anything that detracts from cool fights such as narrative and character exploration, are considered bad.
5 years late, but I finally decided to watch hbomberguy's "RWBY is dissapointing" video. Turned that shit off at the 16 minute mark when he said that having a person be a villain was bad. Ain't shit I need to hear from you if thats a fucking "critique" lmao
I don't want to be a Marathon hater or Steam Charts Andy, but if I were a Marathon player I would be a bit nervous. Like how can you see Destiny 2, Bungie's largest IP, not only get axed, but see that D3 is not in production. Then look at Marathon and see that it can't even keep up with Destiny 2 at its worst and not think that Marathon is getting axed in like a year or two. Idk I just think Bungie is cooked
Bungie is reportedly planning significant layoffs after ending Destiny 2 development, with a new report claiming Destiny 3 is not currently
Going all in on Marathon. I mean I guess they're allergic to making money.
It just really sucks that Bungie wasn't able to cook the way they clearly wanted to. Forsaken, Splicer, Lost, 30th, WQ, Seraph, Wish, ITL, Pantheon, Heresy, RotN, TFS, I could go on. But its like there was someone holding a gun to Bungie's head telling them to use the microwave 90% of the time instead of cooking with fire. I just don't get it
RWBY outlasting Destiny was not on my bingo card
remember when yang threw her bike at that guy. based.
Thinking about Ruby again, and after reading an analysis of Red Like Roses from user @lovingdabeessss, it got me thinking about how Ruby NEVER processes her grief.
Per the RLR1 analysis from the above user, there are only two lines about Ruby herself, and its specifically about how she is dreaming of and mourning her mother. After, the song is about other characters before going to a rhythmic upbeat song where, in the Red Trailer, we see Ruby cut down a hoard of Beowulfs. So instead of being able to stand at her mothers grave and grieve, she has to go fight a hoard of grimm, doing the very thing that got her mother killed; fighting to make the world a better place. Unable to sit still and grieve, process her emotions, she just has to keep moving forward.
And I don't think members of her family ever really gave her the chance to grieve either. Yang minimizes Ruby's trauma over losing Summer telling Blake in V2:"I think she was too young to really get was going on, you know". All credit to Yang though, she had no business being the emotional caregiver to another child lol. And of course we have Tai breaking down, and Qrow being around, but clearly not as involved as he should have been.
That said, there is little evidence that Ruby's emotional needs weren't met, up until the end of V3. I'll set the stage; Ruby just watched TWO of her friends die. Watched her school get destroyed, watched as she failed to do her best and keep her team, friends, and family safe. Failed to save Pyrrha, because she was too slow. The girl with the speed semblance was too slow, aint that a bitch.
And then when she wakes up, the first thing she does is go to Yang, and when she sees her, the first thing she does is comfort her. Only to be told that Blake abandoned her team, abandoned Yang. Yang does not reciprocate when Ruby tells her she loves her, but again, Yang has no business being the emotional caregiver for Ruby, especially not then.
But then, instead of processing her grief, Ruby plans to go to Haven. and then we get 5 volumes of her never taking the time to go "I think I need to talk about this". Which of course leads up to V9, and the V9 extra released after it ended, where we learn that Ruby does not know how to ask for help.
This was a lot of rambling, but the point is: she needs therapy
Man seeing D2 go out after EoF and Renegades soured its reputation to an arguably even worse level than the DCV is awful. Had Bungie just pulled the plug after The Final Shape, it wouldn't feel so sour. But now we're ending the game with so much content still behind the DCV, the return of The Director (all but admitting The Portal failed), and the narrative stuck in purgatory. There were points in D2s life where I would have been able to say "this is the best game ever made" and now its ending on "this game is tragically dissapointing"
