@metal-detector-perfector
First time out in a while, I only had a little less than an hour before the beach I was on closed but this is what I found in that time.
Found a few different brands of shotgun shell tops this time. Peters and Federal which I hadn't found before. Also what looks to be a broken iron skillet and some other pieces of metal including bike handle bars.
I found this Buck Knife in the woods several years ago. The case is pretty damaged but I was able to make the knife look pretty good.
Found this little Marbled Salamander while metal detecting. After I found the piece of metal I was looking for, I put him back in his home.
-Western Super-X shotgun shell top.
-UMC. CO. New Club shotgun shell top.
-Possibly a chisel head or something used in logging. It was under a huge section of tree that had been cut and left when they logged trees out of the property many years ago. I had to dig down and then under the tree section to get it. I thought it may have been a tooth to a backhoe bucket but its angled on both sides so I don't think it is.
-A small wrench.
-An unfired shotgun shell with the slug still inside.
-A fired 12 gauge slug which I believe was fired by me at a deer 2 years ago. I shot(and got) a doe really far away in thick woods and when I shot, a buck popped up, I shot at him too but the bullet must have hit branch on the way and ended up in the ground.
-Also some nails, a pull tab, a small piece of metal, a bolt, a large heavy rounded metal square and a large ring of metal, also a few not so old shotgun shells.
These are my finds from a beach today, first time metal detecting on one. The large coin isn't even metal, its a plastic toy coin made in China that I found out there. The sea glass and shark's tooth obviously aren't metal either, just some finds on the beach. The black thing above the red clip, is very light and looks like meteorite maybe? The metal detector hits on it so I'm not sure what it is. And nails of course, whether its in the middle of the woods or on a beach, nails are everywhere.
With the two pennies, my grand total in coins found is now 4 cents.
Today I found a couple square nails, a bullet, a shell casing, a broken bolt, a broke chain link, a random piece of metal, and a big heavy piece of metal which looks like it fell or broke off a machine and the last place I looked before dark I found the old axe blade.
First time out in 2014. I found possibly a vice, I'm not sure but the two pieces up top seem to fit together though. Found what looks like a hitch, a broken bolt, what looks to be a chisel, some bullets, , a drill bit, some nails which I've found every time out and an old pocket knife which is one of the things I was hoping to find. I found it just before dark too.
I was feeling naughty tonight so I took some “mooning” pictures.
I think the moon has been bright enough to go metal detecting at night the last few days.
Hidden little gem found in a penny tray. A one of a kind 1903 Indian Head penny love token. The engraved side says: "To Eddie from Bettie May 31 1905"
I wonder what became of Eddie and Bettie.
Okay so today I went to a different part of the property(one I don't go much because of all the stupid trespassers, who will be got. I'm reclaiming that part of the land. We lease it, other people shouldn't get to use it for free) and these are some of my findings.
An old Rem-UMC 12 gauge shurshot shotgun top. Pretty cool because the newer ones pretty much rust instantly. I also found a Winchester shot gun shell top. I found a heavy metal bar very shallow in the ground, I'd say it weighs 15-20 lbs. I found a piece of chain, a square nut and the long piece of metal which was buried down deep, over a foot. I think it is a blade off of a bush hog.
But the most interesting thing I found was the bullet. Because I know the full story of it. The bullet was fired by a hunter from a .54 cal muzzleloader. The hunter fired it at a deer who was facing him, deer and hunter kind of surprised each other while walking. The shot was rushed and the bullet just grazed the deer in the bottom part of the chest, only taking off some hair and fat. The deer did not bleed and did not have life threatening injuries. How do I know all this? Because I was the hunter. The bullet has been out there since 2006 I'm guessing.
The main thing I've learned from metal detecting is that people suck at holding on to nails. Every time I've been out no matter where I've been I always find nails.
I'll have pictures of my latest finds later, maybe tomorrow.
This explains the one bullet I found that is mashed completely flat.
Here are a few of my other finds cleaned up. Two corroded pennies(the one is only from 1998 and the other is 199? something as well. No idea how they got in the ground. What maybe an old nickel, the side on the one part is the same thickness. But it's probably just a regular piece of metal and not a coin. I also randomly found a ford alternator in the middle of the woods. I found an old square nail in the middle of the woods too and the small screwdriver
Bullets I found while metal detecting. I'm not sure what the last bullet is, it's mashed completely flat.
My granddad gave me this today, it was something he found a while ago and then found again the other day. I cleaned it with vinegar and foil to bring out the logo. It's a Miller Lock.
So these were some of my findings, some shell casings, an old shotgun shell top, some nails(the one is really odd shaped at the bottom), some random metal pieces and the most interesting thing to me was the old bullet. It may look like a rock but its a heavy piece of lead. It hit something too because it fragmented.
A few times I would get hits on the detector that read 99 but I could never get it to hit again in the spot it would do it, so I'm not sure why it was doing that. But I was at peace doing it, and that was great. The sunset was awesome too.
