Norman Garstin painted The Rain It Raineth Every Day in 1889.
The title comes from a song Feste (the fool) sings in Twelfth Night. The song is, in part, about passing from one stage of life to another—so it’s appropriate to the scene of children and adults walking along the promenade in more ways than one.
The scene itself has a beautiful sort of glow to it from the reflection of the sky on the damp ground.
