MFS 君のいない夜を越えて / Kimi No Inai Yoru O Koete lyrics translation & commentary
Big brother Ryo in a tensed moment with little brother Hajime in one scene in the trailer of Ochanomizu Rock 😢.
Despite my fascination with the drama Ochanomizu Rock which the song was written for, I didn’t really fall for the song straightaway. I just thought that melody & sound-wise, it’s the twin to that song with extra long title この世界で幸せ …. (???)… in ALL LEAD TRACKS whereas the rest of ALL SECRET TRACKS is MFS venturing into new musical territories.
However, it’s impossible not to start to get intrigued by the song as I got to know the drama more 😊. The storyline, the characters and the visuals. Now, I think the song has become my most played song from this album.
1. The plot vs the real life Moriuchi brothers
While it doesn’t 100% follow the Moriuchi’s real lives but the premises are:
i. Two brothers dreaming of performing at the Budokan when they were kids….. (bingo) 😮!
ii. The brothers went their separate ways due to life circumstances 😢.
iii. Little brother struggling in the small Livehouse circuit with his band as big brother is riding high with his successful career 😊.
iv. Two rival bands = little brother vs big brother 🤗.
v. Little brother longs for big brother to be back in his life, happy and close-knit as they used to be.
Can’t blame anyone that this alone started the tongues wagging, eh 😉?
2. The rival bands’ main characters’ visual designs😮
Look at Ryuji Sato’s character DYDARABOTCH vocalist Hajime against MY FIRST STORY Hiroki Moriuchi at the Budokan.
Now look at the rival band The DIE Is CAST vocalist SHO played by Tsubasa Sakiyama against ONE OK ROCK Takahiro Moriuchi at the Budokan.
Co-incidence? Yes? No? Hmm … 🤔
Written from the little brother Hajime’s point of view, it’s about the longing of the younger one to have his older brother in his life again. Sounds familiar 😉?
While I believe the lyrics were based on the characters BUT I personally also believe Hiro might have cleverly injected his REAL message to his own brother Taka. Most of the lyrics are heart-wrenchingly similar to the sentiments expressed in his “family speech" at the Budokan and the song Home while things like “lie”, “strain”, “hatred" and “envy" are certainly from the characters’ storyline because there are no such things between the two Moriuchi brothers.
【Hiro’s “hidden" message】
HOWEVER, Hiro somehow found a place to insert this very striking line, [今更僕の初めての物語には…関係ない / For now, to my first story …. there is no relation / (you) are not related] 😮.
Whooaah! Hiro actually mentioned MY FIRST STORY in this song!
僕の初めての物語 = boku no hajimete no monogatari = MY FIRST STORY 😄
Why I feel that this is Hiro’s real message to Taka? Because I don’t see any connection between this line to the story plot 🤔.
I also feel that this line is at the same time Hiro’s answer to the fans on why MFS and OOR are disconnected from each other. He clearly sang, “For now …“. He wants to reach his big brother’s world first 😊.
MFS has worked on a number of collaboration projects so far but I think any fan can see that Ochanomizu Rock hits the closest to home for Hiro.
