i think my favorite things about bugsnax have to do with the language that is used and their ability to stay in character
each grumpus has a vernacular thats extremely Them and you can tell who is tied to who and who knows what. and it really speaks to each of their backgrounds, the way they speak, even when things arent explicitly stated. like triffany and wambus will both say "best not to dwell" sometimes, because they are married and they like each other and their sources of conflict have to do with them being nonconfrontational with each other
chandlo is concerned about snorpys anxiety, and he has the language to express a lot of that but only in the way that hes used to. hes a life coach and a sports medicine guy so he knows people can be generally Stressed and Anxious and Nervous. but he will not sit there and rattle off a list of diagnoses, because he does not have those. nobody does. it takes an entire dlc's worth of interactions with other people for chandlo to understand that snorpy has more problems than just being socially anxious, and that he cant solve those problems with life coach tactics. it reminds me of roseanne when their daughter is going through depression but all they can call it is a "mood" or "teenage angst" because they dont know
gramble does not Tell you precisely what happened with whom, just that one day he was abandoned, and he would prefer to be surrounded by creatures who could love him unconditionally, because at some point there were conditions. you dont have to know who left him. you dont have to know why. but the way hes handling it now is having a clear impact on everyone else around him too and youre acting as a nice sounding board for him to figure that out
filbo is correct to ask you to help everyone with their emotional problems. you dont have to actually sit anyone down and tell them anything. they tell each other things. they ask each other for help. you might get them the bugsnak they want but its really up to them to take the lesson from it, if it doesnt work out the way they want it to, because they wont learn anything until theyre ready to hear it
bugsnax is a good game and its made better by the Game Part being less about dying and resetting and shooting things. its a puzzle. youre solving a puzzle to catch bugsnax, youre solving a puzzle to find the catalyst for misery, and youre solving a puzzle to strengthen a community
