In Blackwater Woods

Look, the trees are turning their own bodies into pillars of light, are giving off the rich fragrance of cinnamon and fulfillment, the long tapers of cattails are bursting and floating away over the blue shoulders of the ponds, and every pond, no matter what its name is, is nameless now. Every year everything I have ever learned in my lifetime leads back to this: the fires and the black river of loss whose other side is salvation, whose meaning none of us will ever know. To live in this world you must be able to do three things: to love what is mortal; to hold it against your bones knowing your own life depends on it; and, when the time comes to let it go, to let it go.

It was after dinner. You were talking to me across the table about something or other, a greyhound you had seen that day or a song you liked,

and I was looking past you over your bare shoulder at the three oranges lying on the kitchen counter next to the small electric bean grinder, which was also orange, and the orange and white cruets for vinegar and oil.

Alll of which converged into a random still life, so fastened together by the hasp of color, and so fixed behind the animated foreground of your talking and smiling, gesturing and pouring wine, and the camber of you shoulders

that I could feel it being painted within me, brushed on the wall of my skull, while the tone of your voice lifted and fell in its flight, and the three oranges remained fixed on the counter the way that stars are said to be fixed in the universe.

Then all of the moments of the past began to line up behind that moment and all of the moments to come assembled in front of it in a long row, giving me reason to believe that this was a moment I had rescued from millions that rush out of sight into a darkness behind the eyes.

Even after I have forgotten what year it is, my middle name, and the meaning of money, I will still carry in my pocket the small coin of that moment, minted in the kingdom that we pace through every day.

what does flow feel like

Intrinsic - whatever produces flow becomes its own reward

Greater inner clarity:  knowing what needs to be done and well we are doing  

A sense of serenity - no worries about oneself - a feeling of growing beyond the boundaries of the ego

Knowing the activity is doable ; our skills are adequate to the task

Timelessness - thoroughly focused on the present hours - which seem to pass by in minutes

ive been working in transitional housing here in portland with an amazing crew of people - three from WEST PHILLY! today 1 of the clients reminded me on my way out the door ''be kind to urself''. earlier, i was nicknamed - "Amanda-Ameansta: get the job done" by someone who drew with art materials I set out for over an hour. some people in the world just want to be recognized and acknowledged. what did you do today?  #mentalhealthadvocacy #babysteps #bekindtoyourself

We live in a world full of diversity, gender expression being just one of the many wonderful complexities that define each individual’s uniqueness. Individuals are identified by gender in social and cultural contexts from birth throughout life. Stereotypes often play into how individuals relate to each other. These stereotypes may have historical roots, however gender expression beyond stereotypes has been ubiquitous throughout our existence and often feared and discriminated against. The creative summit will provide individuals in the community the opportunity to explore gender expression through art making and an art exhibit involving a diverse array of community at large. The summit will provide opportunities to dispel rigid norms through conversation and art creation in a safe and supported community atmosphere. The goal of the summit to increase public awareness and acceptance of all gender expressions, regardless of historical patterns of behavior, oppression and opposition. This project will provide opportunities to experience others perspectives, motivations and inspirations. More coming!

*ROOKIES: People that YOU are WILLING TO PULL UP! Remember, you were once a newbie too. Understand and appreciate that there were people willing to share their experiences with you and now it's your turn to share and "pay it forward". ALL OF LIFE MOVES ON IN THIS WAY!
