In The Office

  There was a suite of floating offices in MI6 that were designated for the Double-O agents to have space to complete paperwork in and generally loiter hoping they would stay out of the way of the rest of MI6 who were trying to accomplish something.  Office space was initially meant to be first come first serve but the agents had worked out the pecking order amongst themselves as to who would permanently use what office.

Gregory had always had the impulse to return to MI6. During his stay there as an agent, the excitement of the lifestyle had really worked it's way into his blood. Spending time at Scotland yard, dumbing himself down in order to hide his true intellect from Sherlock Holmes and dealing with Donovan and Anderson (Who he frankly found rather thick) had started to take it's toll on him. These were the reasons he kept his desk at MI6. He could get away from it all, just sit in his old office, close his eyes and imagine he might actually get a mission that didn't involve entertaining Sherlock. 

A noise behind him made him turn his chair, a jump contained by his training. He swallowed quickly, eyes resting on the man before him, a sigh escaping his lips. "Evenin' Q." He said with a small smile. "Oh yuh know, just missin' the place is all. Scotland Yards fine and good, but it's nothin' on this place." He sighed lightly. "What are you doin' here so late?"

  Seems like an awful waste of resources and sentiment. She’s so clingy. Hasn’t let go of the sleeve of my coat since I brought her here. SH I prepared dinner for her and she took a small nap on the sofa. SH

Greg stepped up to the door of Baker Street, ten year old son in toe. He was let in by the lovely Mrs. Hudson and without much conversation he jogged up the stairs. Entering into the sitting room he was greeted by the sight of his daughter tugging on Sherlock's sleeve. 

"Well. She does love 'er uncle Sherlock."

"Daddy!" Melissa cried, bounding over to him. He scooped he rup, holding her in his arms. 

"Where did you find her, Sherlock?"

  Anderson groaned softly and glanced at his bag. Still intact, everything still inside. Good. He He bent down to pick up Greg’s things, only seemed fair when it had been him to knock them down. But when he actually read the ID He paused, and did a double take. He passed it slowly back to Greg. “Thats one of those fake IDs, right?” He asked hopefully.

"What are you on about?" Greg asked as he took the I.D back, glancing at it. "It's just ba-" No, that wasn't his badge. That was his MI6 I.D. Oh. No. "Uhh." He swallowed dryly. "Yeah. Course." He offered a smile, tucking the I.D back in his pocket and turning to head back to his office before Anderson could ask anything else.

The day had been a very long one indeed. His body ached, his mind raced and his thoughts turned to getting home to his children. He could forgo the paperwork, he could just pack up and leave the office, he could go home. He wouldn't, but he could. leaning back in his chair and heaving a heavy sigh, Greg Lestrade glanced at the clock. Near midnight. No, he wouldn't be going home. He'd only wake the kids now. 

Coffee, that was what he needed now. Coffee. He stood from his desk and walked along the halls of New Scotland Yard. They were still nearly foreign to him, the halls of MI6 always standing as his one true home in the world of Law Enforcement and National Security. It was funny how things went, really. Sherlock Holmes thought Greg Lestrade was in fact an idiot, and Greg's training allowed him to keep up that charade. The longer Sherlock believed that the less reason he had to analyze him. At first glance every ounce of the special training in combat and strategy Greg had ever been given was deeply buried under mountains of a mask the Mycroft had helped him build, put up to keep Sherlock at bay. Mycroft had taught him well. 

This entire thought train was suddenly derailed as he ran smack into someone, bumping backward and dropping his wallet, badge and keys out of his pocket as he pulled his hands from them to steady himself. 

"Anderson?" He asked quietly, looking at him dully. "Eh, sorry. Didn't think anyone else was 'ere."

"I’m not buying it, you don’t walk into a door and get a bruise like that!"

The young man winced at Greg’s sharp voice and looked at the ground. His cheek was bruised darkly and throbbed painfully even when he wasn’t trying to find some sort of explanation for himself. But he couldn’t tell the older man the truth. His trainer would go ballistic if he knew. “You know how clumsy I am off the ice,” Oscar mumbled as he absentmindedly gripped the fabric of his trousers then smoothed out the creases he made. “I…I tripped and ran into it. But it’s okay. It hardly hurts at all.”

  "Because I knew it’d make you mad," Oscar said quietly and rubbed his arm nervously. "It’s really okay. These things just happen sometimes." Sighing, he took off his glasses and went to rub his eyes as he always did in these situations when he remembered that would just aggravate the bruise and so reluctantly put his glasses back on. "I’m sure we can cover it up with makeup or something."

"That piece of crap is just lucky I'm a bit controlled. I'd go over there and-" He shook his head. "It's fine, anyway, it should heal up and if it doesn't we'll just hide it." He sat next to Oscar. "Did you put something cold on it?"

"I’m not going to make it."

"Sherlock!" He growled, looking to the back seat for a slip second as they drove. "Stop being a drama queen and hang in there!" The case had gone badly, and Greg didn’t think he had ever driven this fast in his life. "Please, please just keep talking to me!"

Sherlock smirked, though it was faint; the wound in her side was too big, and just her rapidly weakening hands didn’t do much to stop the blood that was staining the back seat. “Afraid I can’t do that. I’m not being dramatic, the chance we’ll get there in time is—” she stopped, trying to focus on keeping herself conscious.

"Don't tell me about chances damn it!" He growled, curving down a side street, trying not to throw her around to much. "I'm not gonna lose you! Do you hear me? We're gonna get you to the hospital, you're gonna get blood and they're gonna stitch you up and then in a month we're going to be back out on cases, do you understand me?"

You’ll come bail me out, right?

He sighed heavily. “Maybe.” He said as he leaned back in his desk. “Maybe. You have to tell me what happened though Sherlock. You have to explain it to me or I can;t even begin to figure out how I’m going to approach the situation. What exactly happened?”

"I should first say sorry" Sherlock breathed through his nose slowy, "I may have borrower a car without asking" grand theft, "I just needed-there was a thing-and, look I can pay the damage if you need me too" it was such an idiot thing to have done and he felt like he has disappointed lestrade

"Sherlock." He said, a slightly warning tone colouring his words. "Slow down and explain it. I'm getting my coat but I need to be ready. I'm gonna try and talk them down to letting you go, now why did you need the car? " He moved along his office, collecting his wallet and his coat, then his keys. He'd go get Sherlock, make sure he was alright.

  Biting his lower lip, Oscar hunched his shoulders and curled a little into himself from where he was sitting on the bench. After a moment, he sighed heavily but kept his eyes downcast so he wouldn’t have to see the older man’s expression. “It was Damion,” he mumbled, the name of one of his competitors coming up in the next tournament. “We…got into a bit of a disagreement. It was my fault though!” It wasn’t but Oscar was going to keep that to himself. “It’s fine. Really, it was an accident.”

Somehow Greg looked even more cross. "Oh yeah, I'll bet it was our fault. That little shit's been startin' things for days." He huffed. "Look, we'll have t' hope it heals up. Why didn't you just tell me, hey?"
