Although this scene feels frustrating and their conflict felt forced at first, its actually a very needed scenes for both of them.

Ali and Alicia had a rough start, but we, the audience, is aware that they both liked and enjoyed each other’s company. We’re aware that Ali had never hold anything against Alicia and each time Alicia offered a hand of friendship, he accept it immediately.

While from Alicia’s side, we’re aware that she respected Ali and has genuine care and concern for him, although she rarely shows it verbally.

But those subtle scenes does makes their friendship status “up in the air”, in that although they got along fine, there’s still some unresolved issues underneath. Ali doesn’t hold things against Alicia, but he couldn’t help cling to the dynamics he had with Alicia once - where Alicia is unnecessarily hostile towards him. Alicia has never apologise or thanked him, making him doubt their friendship further, which is why he’s quick to accuse her of sabotaging him the moment her first reaction is to warn him instead of congratulating him after a successful SATRIA mission (which is kinda his first win in a while).

It also doesn’t help that the two times Alicia did stand up for him, it was in a circumstances that is easy for him to brush it off. “Oh she standing up for me at the academy because it was a direct order from the general.” “Oh she hit Sam because he said the Cyber kids (all of them) are cowards”, further fueling Ali’s denseness and misunderstanding about their actual dynamic.

But now that everything has cleared up, I really want to see how their friendship and dynamic is gonna progress further.
