She feigned concern and empathy, the expression actually making it to her eyes as she offered her arm. “Then you need a lunch date, obviously.”
He stared at the offered arm, not entirely sure what she was expecting him to do with that. “I... need what now?”

The laugh was nice, it suited him somehow. Maybe not quite as well as the kicked dog look, but that could just be her bias shining through. “I’d be willing to try.”
“You’d be the first person to make the attempt in what feels like centuries,” he answered. It sounded hyperbolic, but it was honestly more of an understatement than anything.

“I’m Ever,” she finally introduced, not bothering to hold her hand out to shake his. He seemed a little skittish as is and she didn’t want to risk making that work. “And I think I might be extroverted enough to help.”
“Michael,” he answered, because he knew it was rude to not introduce himself in response, even if his people skills were rusty at best. A soft laugh escaped. “Not sure anyone is that extroverted.” His sister, maybe, but it wasn’t like they were on speaking terms.

Ever pouted at him, far too good at playing the sweet, charming girl. “Poor boy. Everyone needs a friend.”
This was weird and he had no idea what to make of it. “I’ve been told I’m not good at that.”

“That doesn’t make it sound any better.” She was willing to bet he was lonelier than he was going to admit to and that just had her all the more interested in seeing how far under his skin she could get.
“It doesn’t really bother me.” Probably because he didn’t exactly know what anything else was like. This had been the way things were for so long now that he couldn’t imagine anything else.

“That sounds terribly depressing.” And it made her think he might be a touch lonely. It was almost too easy, but she was willing to bet he was just awkward enough for people to be worried more than charmed.
He shrugged. “I’m used to it, I guess?” He wasn’t close to his siblings. He was too difficult for most of them to get along with, too much of a rule follower.

“I find that rather hard to believe.” She didn’t actually, he just seemed like someone easy to mess with and Ever was bored.
“Well I can’t remember the last time someone said it.” And he could remember a lot from the last few millennia. Sometimes details blurred together, but he didn’t think he was forgetting this.

“...all... all of it? Yeah. Yeah, none of that made sense to me. Cute isn’t exactly a word I hear used to describe me very often. Or like. Ever.”

He nodded, relieved that they were on the same page about that, at least. “I can, uh, crash on the couch then, if that works?”

i’ve just been thinking a lot about michael and like his loyalties and shit and also what it would take to break him and honestly???? like i think if someone hurt him a whole lot that would not do it bc he is one loyal little fucker but i think if someone hurt him a whole lot and then was nice to him??? i think, despite the fact that they were the one who’d fucked him up in the first place, he’d probably do anything they wanted bc like. he’s not used to anyone being nice to him and he’s just so god damn touch starved that he would. be so easily manipulated by that kind of thing.
and i dunno man someone just corrupt him thanks.

“It was a terrible idea. But no one died and no one got arrested and no one murdered us and it was actually a pretty fun night? I’d definitely get drunk in the woods again, but I don’t think I’d get high or try climbing a mountain. It’s a miracle no one slipped and broke their neck.”
Michael is so ridiculously touch starved that he almost immediately melts at any sort of physical affection.
