“Jamie Fraser is dead,” they’d say…

Visitors to the small mountain town would ask about that big house on the hill, the one with climbing roses and smoke curling from the chimneys.

The men of the Ridge would shrug. “Oh, a sweet couple from the old country. He’s a woodworker, always carving something on the porch.”

The women would smile fondly and answer, “And she has quite the garden. Swears she can make anything come alive with her touch.”

Every now and then, when someone spotted a tall, red-hair man splitting wood beside the house, broad even with age, and a white-haired woman chiding him for overworking himself… the families of the Ridge politely changed the subject and pointed them on their way, far past that big house on the hill.

Jamie Fraser is dead, they’d say.

Dead, maybe… And he was spending the remainder of his days in a backcountry heaven with his wife and bairns, finally finding peace in death.

two fathers

In 8x09, Claire makes a point to tell William that the fact he has two fathers isn't that unusual in their family.

And she's right:

Claire herself had 2 fathers: Henry Beauchamp, and then Uncle Lamb

Young Ian - Ian Murray was his father, but Jamie Fraser was a strong father figure

Brianna had two fathers - Jamie and Frank

Roger, too - Jerry MacKenzie, and Reverend Wakefield

Marsali as well - her father Hugh MacKimmie, and of course Jamie

Fergus, too - the Comte Saint Germain (probably) and Jamie

Add Buck to that list, too - Dougal MacKenzie, and the man who raised him

But what Claire doesn't mention, is how Jamie himself also had two fathers.

Brian Fraser, of course.

And, Murtagh Fitzgibbons Fraser.
