#NeighborDanceChallenge I’ve been living in the same apartment building for 7 years, but I’ve really only ever met a couple of my neighbors, even though I see the rest of them from time to time. After I saw the video of a girl dancing overnight stranded at an airport, I was inspired to try to get my neighbors to dance with me. All I did was knock on my neighbors’ doors and say something like “Hi... I’m making a video about neighbors, it will only take literally 1 minute, would you be willing to be in it?” and amazingly I was able to get 9 of my neighbors to agree! (though others were definitely not interested 😂) The rest is history! I’m proud of and touched by the video, because it reflects what I believe: that we all have way more in common with each other than differences. In these very divided, polarizing times, I felt the country and world could use another video about people coming together in a fun, heart-warming way. People tend to think and behave one way globally and anonymously on the internet, but when individuals get together, for the most part, everyone just wants to get along, be happy, and live a good life! I thought this video might even inspire others to dance with their neighbors with #NeighborDanceChallenge — a tall order, I realize. It was difficult for me to muster the courage to approach my own neighbors, and I’m a relatively outgoing, bold and friendly guy! But you never know. When thinking about unity and coming together, we really don’t have to look far to find people to connect with. In this internet age it’s become easier and easier to detach from what’s going on in our own backyards. How many people actually stop and talk to their neighbors? Seems like maybe the world would be a better place if more people slowed down and met someone outside their own bubble. I don’t really expect to “get” anything per sè from making this video. I just hope at least it will make some people smile and lift some spirits! Keep dancing world!
