Just watched leviticus and we’re going to talk about it, specifically about Ryan and Hunter throwing rocks at each other

1. in the bible, obviously, throwing rocks at a person was a public condemning and also cleansing, the obvious connotation here being that they are condemning each other for their relationship

2. but what i’m not really seeing people talk about is in another part of the bible, to save a woman from being stoned, Jesus tells the people that only one who has never sinned can throw a stone (biblically meaning that they’re all sinners in some way shape or form) but in the context of leviticus, it also means that hunter and ryan are able to throw the stones because neither of them are sinners

3. finally and outside of a biblical context, masculinity. as someone who currently lives in rural australia there’s a certain idea of what masculinity looks like and very often it is reaffirmed through roughhousing or acts of aggression. ryan and hunter throw rocks at eachother to affirm their masculinity before engaging in something that in their context, both religiously and socially, is inherently un-masculine: their queerness

when cardan comes back from being a serpent jude “runs into his arms”… not throws her arms around him. she runs into his arms.

so what i’m hearing is that cardan reached for her first

when jude tells cardan she loves him she explains it’s because he was clever and funny. cardan even doubles back and restates it. but then he goes on to say “you didn’t mention my handsomeness” to which jude mentions his ‘deliciousness’ but do we think cardan is so pleased by being referred to as clever and funny because she didn’t mention his looks?

we know cardan is beautiful and handsome and any other partners including nicasia most likely would have told him so. I think to have other characteristics noticed especially when he’s been a jinx essentially his whole life would have meant a lot to him. maybe him doubling back and saying she didn’t mention his handsomeness was because he expected her to, not just out of pride but because thats what he’s used to being equated to

even when you consider even in his ‘friendships’ they were using him. the fae obviously can’t lie and locke tells jude that each of them have soemthing they want (i think he says a story, valerian wants violence, idk what he said about nicasia) and cardan is just a way for them to have that

and i would love to know cardans perspective, he clearly has, if not feelings, than empathy for jude and maybe mortals in general as we know he rescued balekins mortal servants. i would love to know his inner thoughts of trying to maintain is image and attitude towards jude but also actively trying to save her from fantasy faerie date rape
