woow — maybe we’ll actually have a reasonably-sized intro for once i lied to myself. anyways, this is sof ( brain cell behind @gyuminvld​​ ) bringing you a second attempt at a third muse: daniel “miel” michihiro ichii of mon:star, atlas records, and variety fame !

bio / wanted plots

we are pleased to announce that we have just welcomed DANIEL MICHIHIRO ICHII to our family. You may also hear them simply referred to as MIEL. They’re a ‘93 LINER and HOT ;) MESS of MON:STAR. Many have already commented on how much they look like NAKAMOTO YUTA.

was born on 10/10 and this headass peacock won’t let anyone forget it ! a ‘93 liner ( *dj khaled vc* another one ! ) which makes him 26 in int’l age !

third child, second son to the owner of one of japan’s leading confectionary conglomerates. so a literal Sugar Baby. in other words, his family is rich as god, and by extension so is he ! but he only gets to inherit stocks and not the actual company b/c that’s his older bro’s job, u feel.

so why is he in the kpop industry ? who the hell knows !

born and raised in en why cee ! big apple ! america ! which makes english his first language, japanese his second, and korean his third but his korean >> his japanese these days oop

tw death ( of a family member ) — his father died some wishy-washy time in the past that i haven’t specified before 2008. as such, his remaining family moved to japan to support his older brother becoming the head of the company. end tw death

his mom started to date someone who had fingers in the kpop industry pie, and so daniel became a *wink wink handshake* atlas records trainee™. 

but he trained for five years ! he knows his shit and he deserves to be here just as much as anyone else.

tw racism — people forget, but in his first couple of years in mon:star, he was actually pretty quiet. as a japanese member who wasn’t that good at japanese ( he accidentally introduced himself as “big sister michi” the first time they visited japan, and japanese mon:cheri still call him “auntie” because of it ). after that incident, knetz tore him apart for being “ a useless member ” and whenever he would say smth, they’d call him an alien, space cadet, 4d personality, etc, and while it doesn’t bother him anymore, it def used to in the past. :pensive: end tw racism

nowadays, aliens and cryptids are his Shit. has had vlives where he just went off on tangents to talk about alien theories.

he studied the shit out of korean as a trainee and into their rookie years, to the point that his korean now is good enough to the point that if u close your eyes, u might actually mistake him as a native speaker at times. after mon:star’s 2016 and 2017 scandals, especially, he’s stepped up. he was always variety-savvy, but now he won’t shut up even if u tell him to.

hasn’t been in any major scandals, though he has been in a few close calls. but it’s hard to get in a dating scandal when barely any of your relationships last past a month uwu.

but is also the type that remains friends with most of his exes,, tell me how that works.

but because of how good he is at variety despite being a foreign member, and his lack of scandals in the last seven years, he’s surprisingly well-liked by the korean public. what a plot twist u were, dan. good one.

dramatic, vain, easily pouty, but also can be one of the best times youve ever had ;)

very affectionate & sweet & flirtatious. king of skinship and fanservice. for his media persona, think suju heechul.

lowkey an all-rounder but that’s the one thing he doesn’t brag abt. brags a lot abt his face though. self-proclaimed visual.

snc’s aria is his sweet babie daughter, mon:star’s sakai is his rebellious teenage prodigal grandchild.

tw cats, tw death — cat dad. used to have three cats, now has two. an orange cat named injeolmi “mimi” ichii and a little black kitten named ellie ichii. jasmine ichii passed away in 2019 from old age ( she was deaf and had really bad vision ) and he was rlly torn up abt it. jasmine was a stray, ellie was a rescue, and mimi was a friend’s who had to move and couldn’t take her with them. mimi + ellie = miel which is the only reason ellie is named what she is. literally treats his cats like he’s their dad and they’re his children, lowkey strange as hell when u witness it for the first time. end tw

lives alone. his apartment is his happy place.

will try anything once, will do anything so that someone else who feels uncomfortable abt it doesn’t have to ( aegyo, embarrassing himself, eating weird food, etc ).

clingy n attention-seeking. probably visits rookies and trainees once in a while so that he can feel like a God.

ft. jooae

jooae’s cheeks flushed at the encouragement that dan offered her almost immediately; if anybody was her personal cheerleader it was, without question, him. he’d talked her through her worst moments and smiled when she’d come out stronger. she just hoped someday she could be his support the way he’d always been hers. 

“this is the song,” she confirms, a proud grin on her face. “i thought it was different from my group stuff, but still a little bit safe. i think it’ll go over well if i can nail the performance part.” she rests her hands on her hips to check his reaction, her smile quickly morphing into a pout at his jokingly cloying tone. she stepped up to him, stood on her toes so she was just a smidge taller than him, and gently poked his shoulder. “hey. i’m an adult. i work, i make bank, i have credit cards, and i know how to run in four inch heels on icy sidewalks. watch it.”

“ i’m sure you’ll do well, no matter what you do. ” and if she doesn’t ... it’s just a learning experience. but he doesn’t mention that fact; jooae undoubtedly knows that herself and he doesn’t want to be the one to sow any seeds of doubt in her head. “ are you choreographing it, then ? ”

when jooae lifts herself onto her toes, dan takes a hand and pushes her down until her heels touch the floor again. “ the cheek on this kid, ” he says, pretending to be exasperated but leaking fondness. “ i hope you aren’t actually running on icy pavements in four inch heels that is textbook baby behavior. ” he makes a face, seeming far more like the child in this instance between the two of them. “ you’ll always be a kid to me, jooae. whether you like it or not. ” 

to be fair, he wouldn’t baby her this much if they were in front of other people, but jooae is his favorite junior and almost everyone inside of these walls knows it. and maybe it’d be a different situation if jooae was as universally loved as she should be, but for reasons that he’s always found hard to understand, the public has always held jooae up to higher standards than they would to anyone else. maybe it’s misogyny. maybe it’s jealousy. maybe it’s both. but it’s always made dan want to make sure that she understood that he was always willing to make time for her, always in her corner, even if his attention could toe on the line of cloying at times.

It had been a very busy year, and Saeun was grateful for it. After all those years only focusing on Iota and hoping for the best, it seemed that it was finally working in her favor. It wasn’t like she was expecting next year to be the same, since it would probably be a while before she would be allowed to be part of another drama, but at least there had been talks about her working on a mini album once Iota was done with their schedules this year, so there was something to look forward to.

Saeun blushed a little and looked down at the floor with a smile on her lips. It was nice to hear that people enjoyed her music, since it was a sound a bit more mature than what Iota did. “Thank you.” That brought a soft laugh to her lips as she nodded, looking at him again. “I would love that. Maybe one day you can come over to my place for lunch. Before it starts raining, I mean.” She liked having lunch on the terrace, it was what she had been loving the most about summer in her apartment, it would be sad to let go of if now that the weather wouldn’t allow it.

That was something she loved, baking with people she liked and spending time with them, making new friends, it was what she needed right now. “Please do. You’re always welcome to come over my place as well, my kitchen has enough space.” It sounded like a lovely idea and she would love to be part of it. “I’ll bring my recipe notebook, share them all with you.”

“ ... raining ? ” he asks after a moment. he immediately imagines a kitchen with no roof — no doubt in part brought forth by the recent news of summit media’s flooding issue — before a more realistic image of something like a balcony or a patio comes to mind. “ oh, um, do you have outdoor seating ? ”

he imagines his embarrassment as something tangible and tugs it back into his chest by one corner, tries to stop his the rising blush on his face if only by sheer willpower. he claps his hands together. “ ah, that sounds lovely. i keep most of mine on the notes app on my phone. speaking of phone numbers ... would you mind if we exchanged phone numbers ? ”

atlas records hq september 2020, with @mielvld

it wasn’t like moonsan had changed anything about his usual routine at the particular moment in time. same long, echoing corridors and spacious rooms, same paths taken to reach them and the same people faced behind each corner, the same polite greetings and small talk exchanged. ten years of having his life signed away to atlas records, and yet not that much changed when he really thought about it. or at least he held such believe up to a certain point in the recent year moonsan could not pinpoint. right up until the universe chose to point out something — someone — the same that was not like the others. 

daniel. so familiar yet somehow incredibly different.

maybe the younger reached a point of development where a conscience started finally kicking in and gently tickling at his ribs with building intensity. in a way that made someone that carried the forgotten title of moonlight boy’s best friend stick out like a small sore whenever in close proximity, sharp feline eyes sticking to the older whenever he was around despite of wandering right past him without a second thought as it did without any fail for many years. was that why the air was so stiff in his lungs once they brushed past each other once more?

“how are you doing?“ it left his mouth before moonsan could control it, slicing through the awkward air hanging over his head in an attempt to seek some comfort once his pace slowed right near the entrance into the company. and so the legion boy’s gaze settled onto miel for more than a few passing moments.

he finds himself pausing on the steps to atlas records in one of those it looks like it’s going to rain ... should i get my umbrella from the car ? moments when he hears a familiar voice from behind him. dan pauses, pressing his lips into a line for a moment, and then turns around to see a familiar face.

“ hm, ” he says. averts his gaze as if he can’t help himself, and then resolutes looks up again to meet moonsan’s eyes. “ i’m doing well ... are you ? ” the response just ends there, just like that. then, dan realises several things in short order, each of them landing softly. truths that didn’t appear out of nowhere, but rather had been known in a blurry way, before. that had been glimpsed out of the corner of his eye and were now coming into focus. 

it’s been years — yes, multiple, years — since they’ve spoken. somewhere down the line, dan’s found himself getting closer to other friends — to minseok and to daehyun, of all people — when as a trainee all he could imagine was a future with moonsan by his side. if not in a group together — mon:star’s lineup not including moonsan’s name was a devastating blow, but not friendship-ending — then surely as friends supporting each other in the sidelines. but it hadn’t ended up that way. clearly.

closed for @vldeunjoo / restaurant in seoul / morning, september

it’s been nice, catching up with eunjoo in the last couple of months. the table they’re currently sitting in is one in a restaurant owned by a man whose older sister is a senior idol in a lesser known company. it’s a restaurant dan has been eating at by himself for years, or, on rare occasions, with other close friends or dates who are celebrities. this particular table is one that eunjoo and dan have taken to sitting at during the last few meetings they’ve had together: located on the second floor, above any wandering glances from random passersby who have an interest in either snc or mon:star. the entire floor is empty save for them with the muffled rumble of other customers and servers downstairs sending vibrations under their feet.

his mostly-eaten breakfast plate is on top of the table, cutlery crossed in finality, and he cradles a mug of coffee in his hands, thinking. he knows that there are only a few moments left before both of them leave again, with promises to text each other to meet up again. in the lull following one of eunjoo’s stories, he sets his coffee down on the table. “ the thing is, eunjoo ... the thing is — i’ve been thinking about this for a while now, and what are we doing ? ”

ft. yeonmi

he was keeping his cool. she was proud. he was her most recent, semi-serious relationship. whatever you wanted to call it honestly. in the end, they just weren’t on the same page. ( and she might’ve had a feeling but he didn’t give her any other reasons to suspect he’d be upset. until he was. )  “i can agree with that, i would’ve been having much more fun if…there were’t so many people around.” and camera’s and staff. she couldn’t really be free like she wanted. 

“that being said, i’m managing to find ways to enjoy myself.” it wasn’t all bad and she couldn’t complain much. she took note of his slightly more relaxed manner once the waitress came and left again. maybe he was at the point of being able to be comfortable. ( it wasn’t as if she had anything against him as a person. ) “animal crossing!” there was at least real interest in her voice, she couldn’t lie about this.”it’s the only reason why i bought the thing.”

“ i’ve just come back from spending the day at hallasan national park ... it’s surprisingly nice, if you find yourself having free time after finishing your activities. i don’t think anyone recognized me. ” or if they did, they didn’t approach him. “ i would recommend it. ” the restaurant they’re currently in isn’t so bad either: given that they are the only two patrons save for a man watching a baseball game on a small tv set on the other side of the restaurant.

it sucks, but dan still finds yeonmi endearing when she’s excited about something. “ oh, i think that my nephew plays that too, ” he offers, relieved that he has an excuse to talk to yeonmi about anything other than the elephant in the room that is their break-up. “ do you want to show me around your island ? ” he asks.

ft. hyunsik

With their years of experience, most of the mon:star members had a general understanding when it came to managing their weight. They knew what they could and couldn’t eat leading up to their comebacks and schedules, but for the most part they all stayed in relatively good shape, anyway. For Hyunsik, it was different. During their downtime he usually became bigger, but not due to unhealthy habits. While he could easily be the fittest and strongest member of the group, that isn’t what Atlas cares about. For them it’s the leaner, the better. It’s all about image.

“You know it,” the dancer hummed as Dan mentioned his diet, taking the stool that had been pushed in his direction, making sure Ellie hadn’t decided the seat was hers before he sat down. With his question he couldn’t help chuckling and shrugging, realizing how it could have come across.  “Both? I guess. I always want to know if you’re happy, or if what you’ve been up to is making you happy. And uh, yeah I guess I’ll take the sweet potatoes, if you’re offering. Thanks.” Pausing for a moment, he licked over his lips before speaking again. “Can I help you with anything?”

sometimes he wishes that atlas records would let up on the dietary restrictions that they put on hyunsik — and at this point, it’s hard to see an end to any of it. it’s now been over seven years since mon:star debuted, and hyunsik’s been in atlas records for longer than even dan has. you would think that — by this point, with their contract renewal — they’d be more inclined to let hyunsik just eat what he wants to, exercise when he wants to.

he opens the oven to grab a few aluminum-wrapped sweet potatoes, still warm from being roasted only a few hours ago, and then closes it with a little more force than strictly necessary. “ it’s ridiculous that they’re still putting you through these diets, hyunsik-ah. ” it’s not the first time dan’s brought this up. they’re both approaching thirty; he thinks that if hyunsik doesn’t wear a sleeveless shirt or flashes his abs this comeback, mon:chèri would live to see another day. “ do you want me to talk to our nutritionist for you ? ”

it’s on the tip of his tongue to decline hyunsik’s offer for help, but then he pauses. “ yeah, actually ... can you wash the vegetables ? ” he passes him one of the plastic bags and a pair of scissors. turning to the chicken he had marinated the night before, he stares into mid-distance for a few seconds before replying to hyunsik’s first question. “ yeah ... i’ve been talking to eunjoo again recently. ” they both know that dan had been close friends with her as a trainee, and had even dated her for almost a year after mon:star’s debut — only to break up and grow distant after chu’s dating scandal. “ it’s been nice to reconnect. i’m also meeting up with seungyong soon, which i’m looking forward to. ”

the evening was warm with an edge of cooler airs, telling of the fact that summer was finally coming to an end, that the perpetual heat of seoul that could warm and cool, but that always remained molten at its core, was finally leaving them. 

daniel puts his hand to seungyong's lower back as they leave the venue. in a crowd of patrons leaving after the show's end, the only way to avoid getting separated to is to stay close, and once they reach the sidewalk dan steps away. after a couple of hours indoors, the outdoor air feels refreshing in his lungs and against his skin, even if the lingering heat from the concert makes him shiver and his skin break out in goosebumps.

he sneezes.

“ ah, seungyong. what should we do next ? are you hungry ? i’m starving. ” he’s not sure if seungyong wants to go home already, but dan knows that the particle leader isn’t shy about his own wants and needs; if seungyong is tired and wants to end their playdate, he will say so. still, dan hasn’t gotten to spend time with seungyong — excluding company-mandated “ vacations ” — in ages, and his desire for this evening to not be over yet is apparent in the way he’s carrying himself on the balls of his feet, the pleading look in his eyes.

ft. sam

sam smirks while he watches dan taking some of his drink. he allows him to take it from him without protest, knowing that dan isn’t going to find what he’s looking for. 

“hey, is it that much of a surprise?” with a pout, he holds out one hand for dan to put the cup back in. he could easily snatch it back himself if he wanted, but instead, sam simply flexes his fingers in a grabbing motion. “ay, gimme my cup back or i’ll stick my cold feet up your ass.” sam swaps to english to match dan, but his threat is all bark and no bite. sam is nothing more than oversized puppy. “but nah, i’m taking tonight off.” a pause. then, sam admits, “but i’ve been drinking, like, around the clock on and off most of the time i’ve been here.” not too much or anything, and mostly alongside meals, but sam’s definitely been taking advantage of the beach holiday atmosphere.

“we should! do you wanna surf? nobody’s surfed with me.”

“ no, i guess not, ” dan replies, casually changing the hand the cup is in so that it’s now in the hand farther away from sam, and then he places it on the pool deck so that sam needs to reach past him if he wants it back. “ i do need to rehydrate, so thanks for that. ”

“ you’d like that wouldn’t you, you weird, kinky shit, ” dan says, all but actually sticking his tongue out at sam. with them both speaking in english, he feels a little more secure in saying what he actually wants to, unfiltered. between the idols and the staff members currently lingering around the pool deck at this hour — most of which he knows probably doesn’t know english or at least cannot understand it to the extent of discussing kinks — and the amount of alcohol in his system already, his tongue is as loosened as it can be. 

“ we can surf together, soon. i actually went today, but i ended up giving one of the summit media producers a free lesson and didn’t really get to do much on my own. ”

ft. hamin

The corner of his lips lifted in a smile as he sees Dan. He was really good at this, it came natural to him, while for Hamin he still was afraid of saying the wrong thing and get his ass kicked for it. After all, he rarely give his words a thought before they left his lips. “Hey!” It was like feeding a puppy that had no control and got part of the fingers too, but Daniel had always been this playful and it was one of the reasons why Hamin was so fond for the younger. He grabbed a napkin and placed close to Dan’s mouth, waiting for the stem and the seed, but when neither came, he stared at the younger for a moment. “Did you swallow them?” He asked with laughter in his voice.

Consider by the way Dan kept speaking without an issue, Hamin supposed he did, and he shook his head in amusement as he placed the napkin on the countertop. “Please, Mon:cherie, don’t ever eat the seed, it’s not good for you.” He sounded like a dad or a big brother, he felt like talking to one of the twins. Still, he kept an eye on Dan just in case, a little worried that he was just playing around, and there were so many ways that could go wrong. And of course, it was no surprise when Dan started coughing. Hamin patted his back gently, almost afraid that they would need help. Luckily, he seemed to be alright and Hamin sighed.

“I hope this was a lesson learnt for all of us.” He told the camera, nodding like he had been right all along. Giving Dan a moment to catch his breath, he reached for the washed cherries and began pulling the stems out. “Make sure all the stems and seeds are out, it can give your jam a bitter taste if you don’t. Once done, you put half of them into the food processor. We don’t want juice, so be careful with that. The other half, we’ll take them to the chopping board and cut them into small pieces.” He focused on this current task for a few moments before looking at Dan. “You alright there?”

“ oh god, ” he says under his breath, his eyes watering. it might still be loud enough to get picked up by the mic clipped to the front of his shirt, and he guesses that he’ll see whether the videography team would be nice enough to edit that out for him. although, knowing how much mon:chèri likes to make fun of him, he doubts that atlas records staff would do him that favor. he gives one of the interns a polite nod in gratitude when they silently pass him a glass of water, and takes a long sip. 

his voice is still a little breathy with his next words. “ in our next episode, we can do a teacher concept. ” not that he’s sure if atlas records would deign to allow them to film another installment together, but if this goes well, he’s sure that mon:chèri would make it happen by sheer willpower. he cups his hands together and carefully spoons the chopped and pitted cherries from hamin’s cutting board and into the food processor. “ i’m fine, ” he replies quietly, when hamin asks him, and then admits, “ that was probably a bad idea. ”

ft. saeun

Saeun beamed at him. There was nothing she enjoyed more than seeing people eating what she made, it was even better when they seemed to like it. “Of course! I’ll take a picture and send it.” She usually wrote them down on notebook so she could make changes if needed, and once the recipe was as she liked it, she copied to another. Many times her mother had told her to make a document on her laptop in case something happened to the notebooks, but Saeun found it too impersonal. At the question, Saeun nodded. It would take some time before she felt like going back to normal, whatever that was, but at least she was feeling better. Distance and time, that was all she had needed. And having something to focus on had been a great bonus. “I am, thank you. I’ve been working on a single, that has given me something to do. It’s a cute song.”

It had been very thoughtful, considering it really hadn’t been his fault. If she had paid more attention, it wouldn’t have happened. But on the other hand, they wouldn’t have the chance to spend time together, and she was happy she could call him a friend now. “I’ve been reading it, it’s great book.” It was just special now. Saeun appreciated that he had taken the time to do so, it had meant a lot. “Maybe we should get together some day and discuss it, there are a few things I would like to talk about.” It was silly, but she looked for reviews after reading certain books to see what other people thought of them.

Oh, that sounded like a lot of fun. “I love it, and I would love it. I’m always looking for people to cook or bake with me.” And Jooae was a lovely girl. It was a sad thing they didn’t get to spend more time together in Jeju, but Saeun hadn’t wanted to ruin the mood. It just had been a difficult time for her, but things were looking up. “Text me to time and place for the next one, I’ll be there.”

“ that sounds good ! ” dan responds, warmed by her smile. he supposes he could make some for mon:star’s staff members, since he is supposed to be on diet right now for their upcoming comeback. or, if it’d be too odd for them to get the same cupcakes back-to-back — with one batch made by saeun and the next by dan using the same recipe — he could always ask someone to drop it off at the staff break room.

“ you’ve been busy this year; i hear your music everywhere. ” he closes the cupcake box to save the rest for later. “ — i should probably say that i really like your music. your voice is amazing, ” he enthuses. not that he thinks that saeun doesn’t know that, but he does think that genuine compliments are far too rare. “ we should definitely do that though. i can return the favor and bake you something, and maybe we can discuss it over tea and desserts. ”

“ it is a lot of fun, ” he agrees. “ and it’s a nice way to meet people in the industry outside of the context of work, and people really get into making desserts for it. and then you get to go home with a box of desserts that other people worked hard on making while they go home with yours. i’ll text you the details. ”

jooae’s schedule had been busy as hell in august and, despite the fact she did text dan almost daily, she’d still missed being with him. so when he offered to sit in on her personal practice just so they could spend time together she’d welcomed the offer.

she started off with the things she needed to make sure she was keeping up on - songs that they’d perform at kcon, of course russian roulette, and she even worked on a cover she’d been working on for fun for a while. but then she pulled out her solo project. the song was still a little rough, but it was close enough to being done that she felt comfortable starting to work on the choreography for it. 

she had some ideas rolling around in her head, some images that she just had to figure out how to make possible, and she was just getting ready to throw herself into testing mode when dan spoke up from behind her. she glanced at him in the mirror with a little smile and turned the music down so they could speak a little easier.

“oh, didn’t i tell you? i finally got the go-ahead to start working on my solo debut,” she said happily. “they’re letting me do most of the choreography for it. i want to get some solid ideas before i go to kinam-oppa for help polishing it and making sure everything looks cohesive. i just started working on it this week.”

he makes an impressed sound. “ wow, your own choreography ? for your solo debut too ? that’s great ! ” daniel has no doubt in his mind that jooae would be able to pull it off. there is a reason, after all, that jooae is one of atlas’s youngest debuted artists at the moment, and despite all the hate she receives, he knows that she has the talent to back it up. on his part, dan tries to do his best to make sure that jooae gets the encouragement she needs — at least from him.

he walks closer to the speakers. “ so this is the song ? ” the demo still only resembles a rough sketch of the actual song, but dan can already tell that it will sound much different from snc’s regular music, even their darker concepts. it almost reminds him a little bit of their labelmate iris’s sound. it’s a good sign; he’s always thought that solo discography is a good opportunity to take advantage of exploring sounds that you might not to otherwise when working with a group. he smiles, pitching his voice to figuratively poke at her cheeks. “ baby’s first solo ~ ♡ !! ”

an open starter, for atlas friends !

it made perfect sense that atlas would try and capitalise off of their artists as efficiently as possible. after all, any successful business should; the economy had functioned using one system for so long it was almost impossible to avoid the backward, old fashioned ways in which money was made. 

yes, seyong understood all of this, but it still bugged him he was practically babysitting idols with no financial compensation. some of whom demanded to be referred to as his senior, despite being younger than him. but, naturally, he knew his limitations. atlas was pretty lenient with his degenerate behaviour and thus, he’d accepted the (forced) offer to provide some diction assistance. 

seyong thinks it must be something to do with them closing out the summer charts. they hadn’t really been preparing for their comeback in a subtle way. groups always laid higher in preferential ranking to soloists, so the whispers of staff and trainees alike were persistent. 

“you’re late.” it’s more of a mumble than anything else, legs crossed in his chair and eyes dropping beneath his sunglasses. seyong wore them even when it was pitch black, providing a barrier between the ‘windows to his soul’ and the many pryer characters he came into contact with. idols. 

he doesn’t really like anything about them anymore. growing up disillusioned was easy, especially form afar, but working so closely with them now… his pessimism had grown exponentially. 

“sit down. please.”

dan takes a seat, and then waits a beat before answering. “ papillon-ssi is scary, huh ? ” it seems like yong is in a mood, which isn’t too unusual on its own, so he isn’t too surprised when yong doesn’t look at him when he first enters the room. dan’s head is canted to one side and he gives yong a small smile when the latter finally looks over, likely in response to the sound of a familiar voice. switching to english, he continues, “ why are you wearing sunglasses indoors, ash. ” it’s not a question, even if it might be phrased like one. “ it’s not too late for your eyesight to worsen. ”

not only that, but he thinks that yong might be mistaken as being hungover if he keeps them on; the gossip mill between staff members at atlas records works just as well as one at any other company, despite all that the higher-ups might warn against stories getting leaked to the press. atlas records’ only signed male soloist at the moment — one who had won a national competition and gotten to use a get-out-of-jail-free card for the traditional years-long training path to debut — is always a popular topic of conversation. he knows this, because for some reason the videography intern currently working with mon:star somehow felt comfortable enough with him to share this with him.

standing up from his chair, dan pads over to yong on light feet, plucks his shades from his nose bridge, and pushes them into his hair instead. he figures that he hasn’t gotten to this point in his career without ignoring a few lines, and yong seems to need a few lines erased from his life. “ i was just stopping by to see if you wanted to grab something to eat, but are you waiting for someone ? i can come by again later. or not at all, if you prefer. ”

he supposes papillon might seem scary — what with his collection of tattoos and the indoor sunglasses and the bruce-wayne-level of brooding — but it’s hard for dan to completely separate that from the seyong that he had first met years ago. people seem to easily forget that yong had once been a summit media trainee, and though the company that backs you doesn’t determine everything, summit-seyong had been undeniably likeable. puppy-like, even, if puppies were characterized by their vocal adoration of their younger brother, ice hockey, and pokémon. “ who’s keeping you waiting ? ”
